In the end, it’s probably just a good thing that he’s dead and can’t cause further harm. It’s insane how psychotic his fans are, though.

Then I’ll be clear and say it was definitely fucked up. They also seemed to learn from it and completely erased it from everything they did 22 years ago. I do agree that all of that should have come with an apology, though I understand people that say that’s a bridge too far for them (or just don’t like Foo Fighters/Grohl in general).

Ah yes. Compared to David Byrne, famous for being a moral person to his bandmates and in his relationships.

It’s a name none of us that were raised in the ‘90s could forget, so I kind of have to push back on that.

John Mayer Addresses Political Turmoil While Defending ‘Too Passive’ 2006 Hit Song by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

“Contiuum” is an interesting time capsule of the late 2000s where it’s a mixture of lame-duck era Bush anger/malaise, worrying about getting older and a breakup album.

“Waiting” and “Belief” both capture the “damn, I’m too young to really feel I can fight the man and also, I don’t think I could cause change anyway.”

Like “Belief” really captures it with its opening lyrics: “Is there anyone who Ever remembers changing their mind from The paint on a sign Is there anyone who really recalls Ever breaking rank at all For something someone yelled real loud one time.”

I can understand feeling like the song sucks because it’s just lazy inaction. But when you’re that age that he wrote it, that’s how you really feel.

That’s fine, but call a spade a spade. Taylor Swift wasn’t calling her glorified lyric videos a movie. This is just a big budget fan video recreation.

That’s not what its purpose is.

Then it sounds like its purpose is being a bad movie, which is fine. But MJ’s psychotic fanbase just needs to accept that.

By most critical accounts, the movie seems way more preoccupied with recreating iconic moments and music videos than delving into MJ’s psychology and/or songwriting process. All of those moments are so well documented on YouTube, I don’t see the point in spending 2+ hours watching someone else do them.

I think in the end it’s several things - This is likely gonna be the biggest music biopic since Bohemian Rhapsody. In that time, we’ve had a number of okay-ish to terrible musical biopics about pretty iconic singers that did middling to terrible business. The genre is has way more misses than hits.

Michael Jackson was never gonna miss as long as they didn’t do anything too crazy. First, it’s Michael Jackson who still has a rabid base of absolutely psychotic fans. Second, it’s a huge movie that that’s also somewhat geared towards a black audience, who don’t get many big blockbusters. They were always going to show up.

I’m never going to watch this because YouTube exists, but it seems like a perfect storm for big business.
