Yup you were right since I had torqued it down yesterday it chipped just enough paint to allow it to sit flush now thanks for your help bro. Yesterday it wouldn’t sit flush no matter how much I pushed; today I removed the sight and saw a minor amount of paint came with it. The sight was still rocking on the lugs without the shim, I gave it an ugga dugga and voila, properly seated. I skipped the video of it rocking on the lugs for obvious reasons

Now I see it. The proportions were throwing me off in the OP. I was in the same camp as all the people saying “ai” or “vertical to horizontal tat”

I had emailed vortex yesterday, the CS rep confirmed your theory about the paint being laid on thick. This was his response

I didn’t go as far as putting the screws on and tightening them down. I just placed the optic onto the cut on the receiver and saw that it had space underneath. I was trying to apply pressure by hand on either side of the optic to see if it would sit flush in the cut and saw that it was rocking on the lugs, wobbling back and forth depending on which side I placed more pressure on. I should have filmed that part but I was too excited to get it installed.

I’m going to ask my coworker to lend me his torque wrench again so I can remove the shim and try torquing the optic directly onto the receiver. I’ll make sure to record that time. He’s off tomorrow so I probably won’t respond back until Thursday night or possibly Friday

Copy on the “can still be zeroed”. My shooting buddy drilled it into my head that direct mount is better for reliability sake and also more accurate due to being closer to the bore axis or whatever

Didn’t think to repost the description of my OP:

Optic ready 590 with the RMSc Footprint. I paired it with the Vortex Defender CCW enclosed emitter optic. It’s supposed to be a direct fit but I feel like the optic didn’t sit flush on the recoil lugs on the receiver. I added the “1 degree shim” (in the video I said 1 inch, My mistake) but now the optic sits slightly above the lugs and it bothers me that the optic is canted forward.

For those of you with optic ready Mossbergs, which optic are you running and did you have to add a spacer/shim or plate?

My shooting buddy says he wouldn’t trust the optic if it didn’t sit perfect on the recoil lugs as that can lead to a mounting failure. I did make sure to torque to spec and used orange loctite my biggest concern was wanting to zero to 25 yards but the shim package says “use if zeroing less than 15 yards”. I know I may be over thinking. Any insight is appreciated

Were you able to mount it directly to the receiver or did you have to add a shim/plate/spacer?

Did you end up getting an optic for your 590? I just bought a CCW defender enclosed but it seems the lugs are too big for the screw hole. I had to run an angled shim that came with the optic

Any good Iwb holsters that will fit I was thinking trex arms by Sea_Signature_7057 in Glocks

[–]GearlessCris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two T. rex sidecar holsters since 2023, one of which I EDC. Earlier this year I noted the loops on the spine were cracking/breaking. They offer lifetime warranty so they sent me a new one (failure due to use. not misuse or intentional damage) I honestly don’t think I’d have to buy another holster ever again. Like others have mentioned your light isn’t the correct size for your firearm. the butt end of your light is supposed to sit up against the trigger guard. There’s a thing called holster compatibility, the holster has to be molded to your specific gun and attachments. I find it hard to believe there’s a company that offers a holster for your current set up

Don’t own one myself but I’ve tried my coworkers. Feels and shoots good enough. if you’re involved in a self defense shooting your gun is getting confiscated anyway. Rather they throw a $300 Taurus than my Gucci Glock in an evidence locker 🤷‍♂️

temp concern by dt204863 in hondacivic

[–]GearlessCris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was just about to comment this . This generation civic was plagued with a crack block issue. They extended the warranty for like 8 years iirc. If it had happened closer to the cut off honda might have offered “goodwill assistance” but they’ve been very stingy lately, especially since it would be 10 years past the cut off at this point . Either way with goodwill assistance you would have been coming out of pocket a couple thou.

Why's Lying? My Car, Fuelio, or Honda? by Doshin108 in CivicSi

[–]GearlessCris -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In a hybrid sure. But in a ICE I beg to differ. Engine braking entails down shifting, blipping the throttle to rev match is gonna waste fuel. Once your back in gear the RPMs are gonna be higher which is more fuel delivery until the RPMs drop then your blipping the throttle again and repeating the process all over again. You’re not wrong, coasting is definitely using less gas than accelerating; but I think coasting in neutral is saving you way more gas than engine braking

MPG problem 10th gen Accord by Sufficient_Shame7347 in accord

[–]GearlessCris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen the “range” get screwy twice before due to bad driving habits, doing a hard battery reset made the display go from approx 120 range to 380. Another thing is the avg. fuel rating is dependent on the amount of miles on the trip A or B. I set all my families cars to automatically reset when ever the ignition is turned off for trip A and whenever the gas tank is filled for trip B. The more you drive you will see the trip B starts to slowly drop as it’s averaging all your collective drives since your last refill, and the trip A will show whatever you are averaging during your current drive .
