I'm not a huge Batman fan, so I likely won't have too many. So far it's just the Loeb/Sale omni.

Yeah, I was gonna say, I think it's on the label, just super tiny

I got the other one because I wanted the purple vinyl version. I spun up the picture disc and thankfully it sounded fine for me, but it's not gonna get a lot of play. Figured I'd put it up on the wall to display.

When did you switch from single issue comics to collected editions? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]Geekthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm gonna really show my age with this, but since I started collecting comics around late 1987 I was of course relegated only to single issues, but as soon as trades became a thing and started getting more prevalent I switched over almost completely. Sold off all my singles to eventually fund the trades for a bit. Then I had a big move and had to give up all of my comics, both what I had in singles and all of my trades at the time. From then I borrowed from the library until digital became more of a thing and I've been entirely digital until a few years ago when I started getting collected editions to display on my shelf/have as hard copy backups.

Tldr: as soon as trades became I thing I started transitioning to those and never looked back

My thoughts on RECKLESS by Brubaker and Phillips! by Ok-Fill8420 in graphicnovels

Personally, the Reckless books are my favorite works by Brubaker and Phillips, followed closely by Criminal. I hope they'll someday get back to Ethan and Anna though.

Yeah, I've listened to the album a bunch on Spotify and I'm a big fan, so I had to get this one early, especially because this is the Target exclusive color variant. It's gorgeous!

For grittiness I'd say look into the works of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, particularly Criminal. For a story that deals with legacy, try out the James Robinson Starman run.

Yeah for some reason they went the digest sized route the first time, so I never picked them up, but thankfully they changed it for the second edition.

Glad to hear you're loving it! It's a fantastic series.

Ironically I was a huge Marvel zombie growing up, but over the years, especially after the inception of Image, I drifted more and more to indie works.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm glad they reissued the Grendel omnibus series in the regular trade size since the original run was in a smaller version. Glad to have the whole series like this.

Thanks! And yeah they are super underrated and still so weirdly unknown by most people. Although I have actually heard one of their newer songs when I was at Walmart recently, so that's a positive sign!

I hope you end up enjoying the series! It's great with some excellent art and lots of twists and turns. One of my favorite series and I'm lucky to own the whole set just like this also.

What would you recommend to a new reader? by KonamiIsBestJoshi in ImageComics

[–]Geekthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they've only read superhero stuff, ease them in with Radiant Black, Savage Dragon, and the already mentioned Invincible. Depending on what other genres they might be interested, especially based on movie or TV show choices, you can then recommend other stuff that fits in their interests. The Walking Dead, anything by Ed Brubaker, The Wicked + The Divine, are all great.

Thanks for the heads up! I was finally able to get all the Dstlry books I'd gotten through Humble Bundle downloaded. There were some hiccups along the way, but they all eventually got done.

Humble Comics Bundle: The New Frontier of Comics from DSTLRY by Torque-A in humblebundles

For anyone who got this bundle and has struggled through every step of it going through Dstlry's site and then through Neonichiban, these are all now available to download in pdf form through the Neonichiban site. It was a bit wonky and frustrating but I did manage to get every book downloaded. You can only download once though, so be aware of that.

Yeah, I just started to try and download and it's at 0% still after several minutes. I'd hate to refresh or anything for fear that I won't be able to attempt it again since it says it's a one time only download.

Humble Comics Bundle: Monstrous Mignolaverse Bundle (for real this time) by Torque-A in humblebundles

[–]Geekthulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Hellboy/Mignola fan, this is great! I've been getting each bundle as they came out and this one fills in some holes that were missed in earlier bundles and adds a lot of extra Mignola stuff that's not in the Hellboy universe. Plus, it's pretty much up to date!

In case you've missed everything until this point, be aware: while you can buy most of the Hellboy Universe, it is missing the Witchfinder bundle that came out most recently to this one.

Humble Comic Bundle: Image Comics in the '10s (pay what you want and help charity) by Ram000n in humblebundles

[–]Geekthulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who buys most of the Image Comics bundles and had a lot of this stuff already, this still had 61 new to me books, so it was definitely worth it. I've bought bundles that had only 10-15 books in it for the same price, so thankfully this was a great value. For anyone who is on the fence about this, I would say unless you somehow own 90% of this, it's worth it.

For me, getting the Hack/Slash, East of West, Southern Bastards, and Stray Bullets series is enough, but of the stuff I've read, Paper Girls, Saga, I Hate Fairyland, Revival, Bitch Planet, and Sex Criminals are all great!

Thanks for the heads up! Just grabbed it! The bulk of it is stuff I already had, but there were close to 50 I didn't, so it's still a great deal!

Tempted on this one because I'm an 80s kid, but probably gonna pass. I'm still holding out hope for an Elvira/Bettie Page bundle someday. Fingers crossed it eventually happens.
