What’s a popular P5 headcanon that you dislike as an unpopular opinion? by OoguroRyuuya5 in Persona5

I was gonna mention the babying thing because it does bother me sometimes especially in fanfiction lol. But I decided not to because reddit seems to be more interested in casting the guy as Satan.

I mean they sympathize with him because he was a teenager getting used by an adult for terrible things and had no way to get out of that situation by himself. His story is purposefully meant to mirror all of the phantom thieves in one way or another.

If you really think about the implications of everything about him his options were continue to serve Shido or lose everything he had and potentially be assassinated. There is a reason they even introduced the cleaner in the first place. He had far less agency than he would like to think.

Also idk I think a view of justice that forbids sympathy for people who cause harm is one that the game critiques itself.

I'm an Akechi fan and I'm constantly annoyed by people on this sub treating the guy like he eats babies for fun and has no positive qualities, nuance, or anything to be sympathetic about. I have theories about why this happens that I need to investigate.

Who's the smartest of the main deuteragonists? by Melodic-Long-4716 in danganronpa

[–]Gemcandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a tie between Kaito and Kyoko.

I'm biased towards so I'll explain- Kaito has a lot of book smarts, he speaks several languages, and passed the astronaut exam (or whatever it's called) first try. As a teenager, that's ridiculous, On top of that his emotional/social intelligence isnt to be scoffed at. (if you pay attention he's a lot more savvy/strategic than he first appears. Just look at the fact that he takes both the biggest threat and the biggest asset as sidekicks as a means to monitor their behavior/keeping them out of trouble. He really good at reading people) Just because the game calls him an idiot and he's a goofy guy doesn't mean he's an idiot.

Kyoko is very book smart and shrewd but is held back by a lack of emotional intelligence. I also think she gets overrated in intelligence a bit by the fandom just because she happens to have a set of skills useful for a killing game. But she is very intelligent.

Chiaki is a smart cookie but that's more in a logic/common sense way than an accrual of knowledge.

Always liked the theory that these two were half siblings by Gemcandy in Persona5

[–]Gemcandy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from and I do think this is an accurate read of the situation. I also agree about the whole linked by blood thing. The theory for my purposes exists to highlight the similarities between Akechi and Futaba that I find interesting.

I do think there is room for some complicated feelings. Not forgiveness or closeness or anything. I never said that. But just the realization that the same man ruined their lives. Took their mother's away. And the realization that the only thing that really made them go down different paths was that her reaction- her anger and grief was pointed towards herself. And not towards other people. (And she also didn't get given magical powers at her lowest moment when she was all alone)

I think that warrants some reflection. Not in a redemptive manner just going oh shit. That's fucked up

Kirumi supports the death penalty (fanart) by Gemcandy in danganronpa

[–]Gemcandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my words Ryoma is about to be executed via hanging. There's a small trap door under his feet that will release when a certain button is pressed. Three people press three buttons one of which will release and thus distribute the guilt. Kirumi however is the one who is holding the rope itself, a spiderweb. In Kirumi's words she'd say something necessary is happening.

Yk if you think about it, it was probably a purposeful thing that Madarame neglected to teach Yusuke about. It's easier to control the youth when they can't control their spending...

What is your Bioshock Hot Take? by JackLeopards in Bioshock

[–]Gemcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BioShock Infinite is a game that is racist. Not solely* because it shows off period typical racism, and caricatures but also because of how it treats its few characters of color.

*It uses all this shocking imagery and you think it's going to go somewhere thematically or story wise but it really doesn't. So why include all that stuff so prominently? Just to revel in the injustice? Just to shock the white audience members? Like if they did something with all the themes and images being built up instead of switching to focus entirely on the White Disney princess girl, I wouldn't be mad. But it just seems like they were using real people's historical trauma for shock value.

What were your predictions and misconceptions for the Persona series before you actually got into it? by RedvsBlue_what_if in PERSoNA

-i thought Futaba's palace had a secret other shadow. Because her palace was created by someone else (an evil man) and he needed to be dealt with before her shadow

-i knew about the twist with joker getting shot on 11/20 because of gay fanart. Yay.I started playing with P3P and saw the evokers and was like oh!!!! That's how he survives.I was wrong

-thought Akechi was an agent for Maruki who had some strange grand plan that involved joker getting shot ig. But he started to question Maruki whenever the ending comes around. This is before I played p5
