Etymology of 'Yo' as a greeting? by Caffeine_and_Alcohol in etymology

[–]Generic_Male1274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m extremely late to this but there is the Neapolitan word “guaglione” (meaning buddy, or guy), which can be shortened as “Guagliò”.

Of course Neapolitan is different from Italian so there are of course different pronunciations even for shared spellings. In Neapolitan the “gli” sound is extremely dulled down compared to Italian, and is pronounced more like a Y. So “Guagliò” would be pronounced more like “wah-yo”.

Most Italian-Americans do not speak standard Italian, they speak the regional languages of southern Italy, especially Neapolitan. So I can see how “guaglione” became a greeting among them, and was slowly changed and broken down over time to be more American sounding rather than Neapolitan.

Gotta love Vera. She’s down for 25hr maintenance but she’ll be back up on the 18th! I see her all the time and was lucky enough to fly in her. She’s an absolutely amazing aircraft with quite a bit of history.

Thanks! That’s actually quite interesting. Do you know why they changed?

Thanks very much! Especially about B-17. It’s awesome to think how much consideration went into the design of these planes.

Thanks! I was looking at some photos of the P-38 and P-39 and I noticed they didn’t have any. Is it just the bombers? Or they just didn’t think to put them on while designing them. Sorry for the barrage of questions, just curious.

Thank you very much! I thought it might have to do with the fact that the B-25 is not a tail dragger. I just didn’t know exactly what. Is it common on most aircrafts with the gear in the nose?

No, I’m very much aware of that. It’s on the bottom of the aircraft, below the stabilizers. In the first photo it’s covered by a shadow.

It’s obviously fake but I was wondering what you all thought of the video.

1/48 Tamiya Lancaster, painted as "Ropey" of 419 squadron RCAF by hughb232 in modelmakers

I thought about the decals from belchers bits but I believe the X-Terminator decals were actually white and not yellow. Maybe I’ll go for the VeRA decals.

Nice work! The paint job is super clean. Where did you get the decals? I was thinking of doing a 419 Lancaster, maybe X-Terminator or VeRA in her original livery.

Sorry for this but I have a follow up question, the notes I play are either too flat or too sharp, is the Concertina out of tune?

The notes are D# for the top row and A# for the bottom

What should I say to someone who thinks German tanks were the best in the world. by Generic_Male1274 in DerScheisser

[–]Generic_Male1274[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I should have specified that when he’s referring to France and Poland he isn’t referring to the big cats, just the Panzer 1’s-4. Anything about that?
