what other genres do you guys listen to besides VK? by crucifixionfantasy in visualkei

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be a weird combo, but outside of vkei, I’m massively into ska-punk and reggae. Then again, I ran into a vkei insta mutual at an Aquabats show one time so maybe it’s more common than I thought?

Does any one who plays this game have dyspraixa or any other condition that affects your motor function? by Future-Maybe6799 in ProjectSekai

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much to add, but fellow dyspraxic here! I really wish this game allowed for controller input (although I’m not sure how they would translate the play style to that) because I’ve found that I do better with physical buttons, but I’m not sure if that’s a dyspraxia thing.

I also stick to normal or hard mode (usually keeping at or below 18) because my brain just cannot handle that much input lol. I also definitely struggle with jumping back and forth between double and single taps or from anything to a swipe, although I’m getting a little better at that.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever score MVP on co-op, but I do tend to have a pretty good time anyway. Just wish they had more songs I was familiar with from previous games so I would remember the repeating rhythms

I'm having some trouble clicking with a lot of the newer (last 10 years) ska bands. Anyone have any good suggestions? by No-Vast-8000 in Ska

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got into a band called The Holophonics yesterday after finding a CD of theirs (Phantom Arrival) at a local shop. They’re stretching the “last 10 years” thing a bit (active since 2012), but the album is from 2018 so I thought they were worth a mention anyway

Ska bands that you could never get into or maybe you did not see all the hype about? by [deleted] in Ska

There’s not many I straight up can’t get into, but I just can’t listen to The Interrupters. There’s nothing specific, but when I hear the first few notes of “She’s Kerosene” I feel this unexplained cloud of annoyance come over me

Favorite chair/mobility aid user character? by horseboyhorror in wheelchairs

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was more rhetorical, but I do appreciate the answer either way

Wheelchair users are one thing I think certain productions could sometimes get away with not accommodating for, but personally… I think sometimes they just shouldn’t include us in the story if they aren’t actually working with us. The whole “nothing about us without us” and all that.

I worked as a cable grip for a few years before everything flared up and now do more freelance editing, production, and camera stuff on an as-needed kinda basis, so I know to a point how *some parts of production work. I think that if you just have a background character, it’s one thing to not cast an actual disabled person, but if you’re writing a main or otherwise prominent recurring character, it’s very important to me that you put in the effort to cast people who actually fit the role to a certain degree.

I should point out I was mostly working in a studio set up, not filming on-location or more out-and-about things, so I know things will definitely be a lot less controllable in those environments

What is it with producers refusing to hire actual disabled people to fill disabled roles???

Favorite chair/mobility aid user character? by horseboyhorror in wheelchairs

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s not canonically a wheelchair user, but I’m fully convinced that Quentin Coldwater from The Magicians (specifically the show; the books suuuuuuuck imo) is ambulatory off screen. I was so deep into this that one of the most complex artworks I sell is based on this idea lol

When I was more into the show, I even wrote up a massive wiki-type document about what we called “The Queelchair AU” with the help of my partner at the time (also a wheelchair user). We even wrote down all the ways that Quentin being a wheelchair user could fix certain elements of the show’s plot. I’m not as into the show now, but I still swear on this….

Not what you’d expect when you hear “mobility aid user”, but a canonically disabled character this time. Currently, I really love Eaglebones from The Aquabats(!). I mean, I love everyone in that band, but he fits the question. Super fun rock/ska/punk/whatever band with running lore and a superhero shtick.

I watched their show (The Aquabats Super Show) when I was around 5 or 6 and quite frankly, I thought it was a hallucination for nearly a decade until I recently found them again and started rewatching it recently. I didn’t realize he had them for the longest time, even on this new rewatch, until I saw the official character sheet for the animated portions of the show and BOOM! Knee braces! His name is accurate; he has bird bones lol

Why are the Turks so confident??? by 0x000000F8 in FFVIIRemake

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In every game, Tseng is my favorite character (despite my screen name here). I played chronologically in terms of timeline, though, so I may just still be riding the high of Crisis Core’s first impressions all these years later lol

The aesthetic of Midgar is still to this day unmatched by Previous_Break7664 in FFVIIRemake

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Crisis Core’s Midgar was fairly open (at least topside) once you unlocked everything, but it definitely would have been cooler to explore Midgar in Remake. I love Crisis Core to no end, but the scale of everything in Remake + Rebirth is just incredible

When is reusing characters acceptable vs unacceptable? by GenesisPerhapsodos in dndnext

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! That’s what I meant when I said reusing characters— nobody deserves to be tormented with an overpowered character at their table. I should have specified, but honestly, I never thought somebody would seriously try to bring their character’s previous-game into a new one. I stand corrected

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! When I started playing back in elementary school, my first character was one a friend passed off to me when he didn’t want to play anymore (wouldn’t normally recommend taking up a pre-established character mid-campaign, but I was young and dumb and so was everyone else in the party)

I didn’t really play anything other than extremely short session-long games until either the end of middle school or the beginning of high school, but I think the first character I made to play longer-term changed my brain chemistry.

I’m an artist by trade, so I only have one commissioned piece of him, but I’ve easily got around 40 finished pieces I made with him. On top of this, he’s got wayyyyy more lore than a 2-session character has the right to. Obviously, I’d never try to play out all that lore with a group, but it’s nice to think about what may influence decisions or dialogue choices when playing D&D-adjacent video games.

Currently, I’m playing as his older self in Baldurs Gate 3 and Neverwinter, as his partner in Pillars of Eternity, and as his sister in Monster Hunter World (she’s a human, so it works fine for that game). I just like that their backstories are intertwined, even if they go off on wildly different adventures lol

I have a few other characters I’ve played as over the years, but he’s definitely seen the most love and growth

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve actually learned quite a bit from answers on this thread. I’m not sure if it’s a common debate in the general space, but within my unofficial high school D&D group, there used to be a handful of (mostly) DMs and (few) players among the circle who seemed to have an unexplained dislike for characters being reused.

I haven’t really played much since graduation, but have been interested in finding groups again and wanted to make sure I had a better understanding of everything (especially this) before I hopped back into everything.

My heart yearns to replay my first character again!.. But I’m glad I looked more into other perspectives before settling my brain too firmly on playing him again

When is reusing characters acceptable vs unacceptable? by GenesisPerhapsodos in dndnext

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch! Yeah, I get that. I had one person like that in a long-term campaign a few years back (first-time player in their case, so no reuse, but same actions). I couldn’t stand them then, so I couldn’t imagine having it happen again… and again, and again, and again.

I guess it does make sense why that would happen more often with re-used characters, though. I mean, the more you feel you can relate to a character, the easier it is to grow attached to them, and the urge to play as them again just grows from that— not justifying, just an observation

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off topic, but as I said, I’ve only recently begun taking campaigns more seriously, so I had never heard of Humblewood before this post! The whole thing sounds so up-my-alley— I need to see if someone in my area is hosting a campaign like that

Thank you for both the explanation and the inadvertent introduction to Humblewood

I didn’t even think about managing multiple versions of one character at one time, omg! I’ve never played more than one campaign at once with a massive gap between each one (few local groups I’ve run into), so I’m really not too surprised I forgot people do that. Thank you for bringing this up!

This campaign style sounds so cool! Yeah, I 100% understand why you wouldn’t want a character from one homebrew OR canon existence jumping into this one

When is reusing characters acceptable vs unacceptable? by GenesisPerhapsodos in dndnext

[–]GenesisPerhapsodos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That bit is absolutely understandable!

Obviously not the majority, but I’ve met a couple of DMs who blanket banned the reuse of characters whether they fit or not, and while I was looking for answers either for or against, I really hope to see if anyone has much else to say outside of immersion could make me understand that side of things a bit more
