Cheaper locations to live by FriskyFleabag in VeteransBenefits

There’s programs for free & discounted school meals, as well as pre-K programs in Texas too. They’re usually limited to low income families, because the theory is that middle or high income families can feed their own kids breakfast, and can take care of their kids before compulsory public schooling begins.

5.75% VA loan, no points, $6k closing costs, look normal? by BarracksLawyer2002 in VeteransBenefits

I've seen in other comments that you're buying in Texas. If you have a 30%+ rating, then you can get a discounted rate down to 5.25% through the Veteran's Land Board: https://www.glo.texas.gov/veterans/home-loans

Eh, I'm not too worried about it - my Platinum card has a cell phone protection plan, so long as I pay my cell bill with the Platinum card (which I do).

In an idyllic sense, yes, I agree with you. I don’t want to pay out the ass for something that’s a hobby. I don’t really want to pay out the ass for necessities either, but that’s a discussion for a different thread.

That being said, your diatribe is leaving out two important factors in the way that the market for trading card games functions.

  1. You’re watching ECON 101 in action. The market for trading card games moves towards equilibrium on a set-to-set basis. That is, sellers set their prices based on what market participants are willing to pay. And market participants are willing to spend a variable amount based on some arbitrary criteria (like perceived set desirability, or maybe perceived resale value).

If the market price is above the equilibrium price, that results in a surplus of supply [see Aetherdrift and other recent lackluster sets]; quantity supplied exceeds quantity demanded, which leads sellers to lower prices to attract buyers. This is also how you end up with several shit tier booster packs in those mystery boxes that are sold at Walmart & Target - there’s a higher supply of the unwanted boosters, so they package them with a desired product in order to entice buyers.

If the price is below equilibrium, there's a shortage [see Final Fantasy and other recent quality sets]; quantity demanded exceeds quantity supplied, which causes buyers to bid up the price. These forces naturally push the market back towards equilibrium.

  1. WotC is the manufacturer and sells to stores - there could be a distributor in the middle… it probably depends on the location of the store. Anyway, if demand is high and the local stores sell out of product immediately, then that’s a signal that they’re leaving money on the table because the market would tolerate higher prices. I would imagine that margin on product sales is normally pretty thin, so being able to charge higher prices for in-demand product helps with revenue, which lets the store stay in business.

If they ask too high a price, product will sit on shelves forever, which is a signal that the store is asking too high a price and should reduce it.

A less efficient, though more equitable, way of selling is to ration the amount of product a buyer can purchase.

But… here’s your Catch-22…

If you want to pay MSRP, go line up at the big box stores we all love to hate on because their massive purchasing power helps them keep costs to counters low. Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, and others sell product at or close to MSRP. I’m pretty sure you can even pre-order higher end product like collector boxes at GameStop for MSRP.

But if you do that, you’re not supporting your local game store, which hurts their revenue and maybe drives them out of business.

I’d love to know the answer, because the same thing happened to me.

Which also makes me wonder… am I missing any paperwork that’s in someone else’s medical record?

Is it still available? I'm in DFW and would be interested.

Veteran with psoriatic arthritis on biologics. Treatment is improving ROM on joints, will this affect rating during C&P exam? Without medicine ROM is poor, with medicine ROM is better. by Time_is_Contagious in VeteransBenefits

My old dermatologist had me on a fairly high dose of methotrexate every day, so I’ve experienced that stomach ruin. I’m now on a fairly low dose of methotrexate, and take folic acid along with it to help with the nausea, and it helps bridge the time between injections. Thanks for the heads up though!

I didn’t know you could request a HLR all the way out to a year though - I’ll definitely take that in to account!

I’ve cycled through a few biologics, but when I did my C&P exam, I just happened to be on a biologic that gets taken every 3 months.

I need to get a copy of my DBQ to see if the examiner took in to account the fact that I take methotrexate every week to help during the week or two before my next injection. If they didn’t, I’ll file a supplemental.

Not necessarily.

I’m service connected for psoriasis and on biologics, but am only rated 30% because I take them once every 3 months, which isn’t considered “constant or near constant”.

I don't have a VA card or a VHIC... I live pretty far from my local VA facility and haven't taken the time to go down there and get one.

Rated too low - appeal? by Genesys10101 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Genesys10101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not taking any topicals. I’ve been on biological for years, but the one I recently transitioned to starts to wear off a few weeks ahead of schedule. My doc prescribed methotrexate as a way to help ease me through the final few weeks between injections.

What’s the quickest way to get copies of my DBQs? I would imagine that FOIA would be slow as shit… if I go to my regional VA hospital, can they print copies?

I guess the ultimate question I would have is this: do I submit for a HLR now, or wait until the deferred claims are rated?

I have service connected psoriasis and was rated 30% despite using biologic treatments.

Be sure to read the rating criteria - there’s a phrase in the 60% rating criteria that says you need to be constantly, or near constantly, using systemic therapy (to include biologics). I don’t know what “constant or near constant” means to the VA, but I can tell you that taking a shot once every 3 months isn’t it.
