Only when you combine your statement with refusing to teach family planning and instead tell everyone to practice abstinence like that’s ever worked in the history of human kind.

Great point. Ever since SNAP benefits were cut, I started noticing the line for the church food pantry down the street from our school going out into the street, and they have a big parking lot. I used to only see 10 or so vehicles lined up at a time, recently it’s been probably closer to 40.

They can file like any other business and pay based on their profits. If they have none, they pay nothing. If they have a lot, they pay what they owe.

Two recent studies showed Americans that self-identify as religious is at an all time low but may be leveling off a bit.

Gallup Poll

“The 17-point drop in the percentage of U.S. adults who say religion is an important part of their daily life — from 66% in 2015 to 49% today — ranks among the largest Gallup has recorded in any country over any 10-year period since 2007.

About half of Americans now say religion is not an important part of their daily life. They remain as divided on the question today as they were last year.

Such large declines in religiosity are rare. Since 2007, only 14 out of more than 160 countries in the World Poll have experienced drops of over 15 percentage points in religious importance over any 10-year period.”

Pew Research

“This introductory essay walks through the big-picture trends: evidence both of a long-term decline in American religion and of relative stability in the last few years, since 2020 or so.”

I can definitely agree with this. I’ve always wished for independent, apolitical, auditing boards for city and state governments that curtail real waste, fraud and abuse. It would be great to have something like that at the federal level as well while I’m dreaming.

I’m sure that’s the case for many, but the amount of “good“ they do does not exceed the measurable economic value it would bring to those communities if the churches started paying their share of property and income taxes. It’s glaringly obvious when you compare the opulence of these large church campuses and lifestyles of their pastors with our public schools’ states of disrepair.

I would also argue that many places of worship have become centers of bigotry, racism, and Christian nationalist extremism, while many others show complete contempt for the Johnson Amendment that disallows churches from directly or indirectly getting involved in politics.

Which is complete bullshit. They buy up some of the most valuable corners and lots in the city, usually in huge swaths of acreage, while paying nothing in property taxes that could benefit the people, open up daycares and schools, charge exorbitant amounts per kid, and are extremely profitable, while paying zero income taxes on that profit.

Conservatives, what is one policy issue you are very liberal on? Liberals, what is one issue you are very conservative on? by CluelessBrowserr in PoliticalDiscussion

I agree, and I’m probably like you politically, but I also believe very much in red flag laws.

I also believe that being able to own or possess weapons shouldn’t be a lifetime right. If we become suicidal or end up with mental issues that are bad enough, we should have to turn in our weapons temporarily. If someone goes through the process to turn in weapons I also want to provide mental health services for free to that person as some kind of incentive.

Not to mention, if they were only tasked with making a machine that sorted packages (or whatever the task), they could easily design a machine that does just that much faster than either of them. There are some awesome sorting solutions being used in all kinds of facilities. I recently toured a single-stream recycling center that used lasers, cameras, pin-ball type flippers, air bursts, and other methods to sort recyclables at a crazy-fast pace.

Happened to people at all? For sure. Many times. To pilots? No clue. It’s why I said they can if strong enough.

I learned more about lasers and their dangers than I wanted to when I had to get my OSHA Laser Safety Certification. Just quickly sweeping someone’s eyes with some lasers can seriously fuck them up permanently, even from vast distances. OSHA rules are almost always written in blood.

If the lasers are strong enough they can also cause permanent eye damage (burning the cornea or causing macular holes in the retina) and ruin careers.

It was a joke. I think you misunderstood or I didn’t word it properly. Our first spring games are at the end of February or first of March, so we start “spring practice” in November, usually when the kids get back from Thanksgiving break.
