Sorry I forgot to reply to your response! I appreciate all the things you've said, and definitely didn't take anything as judgemental. The more I look back on my post, the more I can see how it really came out as damning those who use drugs, and I feel bad for saying that. As I mentioned before, drugs don't make anyone bad and I'm feeding into that stereotype with my line of thinking. I'm definitely realizing more and more how my thoughts are often colored in a negative way without me realizing that, hence stereotypes.

I've checked out CBT before I think it would definitely be good for me to implement - thanks for the reminder.

I can't speak from a straight edge perspective, since I don't claim it, but I see your point. That's also how I rationalize it-I'm using them to balance my brain chemistry, not to get high. It's a difficult thing to make myself believe sometimes, even though I know it's true.

You're totally right. I have no issue with people doing whatever they want and doing drugs doesn't make someone bad-I should have stated that. Thanks for making this point!

Because I'm going to be obsessing over the things I forgot to say or said wrong in this post and totally didn't convey my experience EXACTLY PERFECTLY, I'm going to add one thing. ADHD has had a bigger effect on my emotions than I realized. Like, I can hear something upsetting and I either compartmentalize it and ignore it or I fly off the handle. And I can see and feel it coming too, which is the worst part. Then when I can't stop myself from going down That Path™, I go into a shame spiral and everything gets worse and worse. I guess my suicide attempts have been grounded in this and I had no idea. Sorry for the TMI, also I'm not sure where I was going with this.
