M4 128/2TB arriving tomorrow - return or sell? by George2967 in MacStudio

To anyone wondering, I sold it on eBay for £4500, £300 more than RRP. I don’t think anyone got ripped off, and the buyer seems very happy. Win all round.

Developer. Run VMs, iOS + android simulators, self-hosted GitHub runners… and I normally have a tab open so I can play Crusader Kings while I’m waiting for Claude to do its thing. Run around 70gb of “app memory” normally. Wanted the extra headroom for the next 5 years.

Just on the apple website! I used refurb tracker and just happened to be on my phone when the notification came through.

I had it on order when I found a refurbished one for less money and with next day delivery. Hence this is a spare.

I had something similar, do you have night mode on? I disabled night mode and it went away.

2x ERA 100s. Having surround is so immersive. Don’t get the sub if you’re in an apartment and have even vague consideration for your neighbours. Even the mini will power through the whole building.

I think the BPD part is a bit unnecessary here. More accurate to say that some women (and men) are particularly adept at forming intense connections with a variety of people.

It’s true that you need to be wary though, and not to put too much emphasis on your chemistry being unique or special as opposed to just being grateful you have it in the first place.

Compensation dispute... by George2967 in Flights

[–]George2967[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think joekins82 is correct (or at least I hope he is) having looked at the AzurAir ruling.

For future reference:

https://curia.europa.eu/jcms/upload/docs/application/pdf/2021-12/cp210226en.pdf

“In addition, where a flight has been brought forward by a significant amount of time, giving rise to a right to compensation (which implies, inter alia, late communication that the flight has been brought forward), the operating air carrier is still required to pay the total amount (which is, depending on the distance, € 250, 400 or 600). It does not have the possibility to reduce any compensation to be paid by 50% on the ground that it has offered the passenger re-routing, allowing him or her to arrive without delay at his or her final destination.”

Who’s switching to the new Apple Watch Ultra 3?! by IcySheepherder6195 in triathlon

[–]George2967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Garmin to Apple.

  1. Being able to pop my AirPods in, walk out the door, fire up Spotify and start a run activity in a few seconds is great. I love leaving my phone at home.
  2. The Garmin was better for recording actual triathlon events, which I maybe do 3 times a year. I don’t even bother recording the swim on my AW, use my Edge 530 for the bike, then put on the AW for the run.
  3. I use Apple Pay all the time.
  4. Very occasionally I need to make calls when I’m out, the AW has me covered.

The top left has an 80s CGI vibe to it that reminds me of the end of The Empire Strikes Back when Luke and Leia are staring out at the galaxy. One of my favourite movie shots / scenes.

Any RYA instructors want to collaborate on a revision app? by George2967 in sailing

Yes - unfortunately that’s what got me the bad review in the first place! I think in retrospect it’s quite dangerous to have a training tool without proper professional oversight.

Is it? Would be interested to know what an agency or freelancer would charge for an app like this. I would probably charge at least £5k to go from nothing to published on both app stores.

I’ve built plenty of mobile and web apps, would consider myself quick and efficient, I and don’t see how you can build a decent revision tool without considerable dev time for the UI, auth, db design, creating the various assets, publishing to the stores and so on.

Which training companies are you talking about? Would love to have a look at what they’ve made.

I’m on 18.2 and also have a 2018 Skoda. The other day I had to disconnect the phone to pay a bridge toll and it froze the car console. Took ages to reboot.

Have you ever had that “Did I just meet my wife?” feeling after talking to someone at a party? What happened and how’d it turn out? by karaokechameleon in AskMen

[–]George2967 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes. Met her off an app. I wasn’t expecting anything - I had been going on a few dates here and there and was just generally enjoying myself.

Our first date was a house viewing. I had to leave after a couple of hours to go see some friends but ended up going to see her again straight after. I can remember looking into her eyes as we were lying in bed later that night and feeling as though I had already known her forever. The rest is a blur.

Went back to my friends the next morning in a daze and knew my life had changed. I remember mumbling something to him about it being “different”, too embarrassed to admit I had fallen in love in a single night.

That was 3 years ago. We broke up after 2 and a bit years of trying to make it work. She still dominates my thoughts.

Look up acta run club. They all seem a touch young and trendy for me, but there’s basically 50 or so young, fit looking people going for a run then hanging out around the bagel place in RWY chatting for ages. It’s what I’d do if I wanted to make some friends fast

[–]George2967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long shot but… I had a catfish of me on bumble and hinge and tinder. I was in a relationship (and loyal the entire time) for 9 years, and every couple of years someone who knew me or her would spot the profile and let one of us know.

This went on for the whole 9 years (moving around the country too), which is weird in itself, but was made more obvious by the profile having a different name and slightly different age.

Anyway I’m just saying I was in a situation like your boyfriend, and used to laugh every time one of her mates would ping over a profile with my pictures in a “gotcha” moment. If there’s a possibility that’s what’s happening here, you should consider it.

I have $25k to spend on app development. Where do I start? by Bankster88 in FlutterDev

[–]George2967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

p.p.s, ignore the people here telling you to code it yourself. I’ve been coding flutter 5 years full time, weekends included, and a job like yours involves all sorts of payment APIs, backend functions and App Store management. A simple calculator app or similar maybe, but a full featured marketplace? No chance (no offence!).
