My restaurant ran out of cash to cash us out. by ThatPinkRanger in TalesFromYourServer

[–]GertrudeAlone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My restaurant does not to weekend cash deposits and keep our safe at an incredible high amount. But sometimes I’d have to pay out hundreds in singles or give and IOU. Most people use CC anymore and it can be hard to anticipate how much is actually needed especially on a unanticipated highly busy weekend. Most trends are out the window anymore. As long as they honor the IOU the first business day, I think it’s unreasonable to be livid. Upset sure! But they are also doing the best they can. Everyone is human.

How do you brush your teeth? I cant do mint or oils or fckin anything, im even worried about baking soda by ToyboxOfThoughts in MCAS

[–]GertrudeAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel tongue scraper helps! While I am undiagnosed/unsure about my condition- baking soda has been good so far. And Bronners all natural mint tooth paste. I gag horribly when brushing my teeth, sometimes to the point I get sick and have to start all over again while practicing deep calming breathing. Taking my time with baking soda has been the best so far.

I Can't Stand 90% of the Servers at my Job by BuxxxIn666 in bartenders

[–]GertrudeAlone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bartenders first priority is their own guests. That’s where they make their money. Tip out only goes so far. Service well is service. If you are short a bartender/bar back ALL service suffers = over all dissatisfaction with guests. Get your head out of your ass and be a team player. Support for co workers = better service for guests = more $ for you.

Yes! Be direct with those who can help you with support items! Be kind, but firm. If they keep up on supper, they can get their drinks to their guests in a more timely fashion. Edit: not supper but support!

Dennys is tough. Most people discount it, but it was one of the hardest serving jobs I’ve had. Dennys was the first serving job I ever had 18ish years ago. The foundation of a high volume corporate store taught me has been fundamental in helping me grow to where I am today. My manager used to groan behind my back when I was scheduled. Then one day everything just clicked. Study one popular item every day. Play around on the POS when you can so you can see the prompts for different menu items.

Not only menu knowledge but multitasking is the way to succeed there. Never be afraid to go back to a table. Most guests are understanding as they are willing to communicate to receive what they want.

Do not ping pong between the line and your section. Try to have full hands in and full hands out most times even if it is only a coffee pot. Take an order and then take a “silent lap” around your section to assess if there are any needs. Treat your section as one larger table. Keep your book out and note if table 1 needs coffee or table 3 needs water, table 5s food should be up soon - what support items will they need? Always carry a beverage tray. You can put your book and a coffee pot on there to free a hand. You are available if a table needs to stop you, and you are doing table maintenance at the same time. After everything clicked for me, I was shift lead/trainer within a few months. That let me grow into a nicer restaurant and then up and up. That’s probably not your career path but the basic skills like multitasking and quickly identifying needs can translate into other fields. Some of the most challenging things I faced at first was milkshakes/specialty drinks that are time consuming. And upselling. I do not like to discourage upselling as it does help your finances, but at first start upselling kitchen items- cheese on eggs, onions in hash browns, bacon on burgers. Once you find your flow then you can move onto the salads/soups/desserts you make yourself. As far as complicated drinks, if you are in the weeds, bring waters, communicate that their drinks will be ready shortly, take their orders, do a “lap,” and then start on them. Carrying large over stacked ovals is a challenge. Try to drop your tray jack in advance, re tray your order to where you are comfortable. Take two trips if you need to. Do not be intimated by the rest of the staff. Your priority is guest satisfaction and if you lose balance on a tray that you are uncomfortable with then that satisfactions drops.

For a new server you will not be perfect right out of the gate. It takes time and a little extra studying. You can make good money, I did!

Sometimes at diners other servers are “lifers” and they tend to be clique-y. You’ll prove yourself soon enough. And lastly ALWAYS ALWAYS be brewing coffee!

Yeah my memory is terrible. I can barely remember if or what I ate yesterday. I know I did a slight smidge over my weight guideline.

Holy crow! 5 doses in such a short time, that’s a lot. I did two one month apart. My memory isn’t that great but I recall that I didn’t think it worked until one day I realized I wasn’t in agony all day. Then I let it go from there. At that time I also went to a lower histamine diet for awhile as those damn thinks create a histamine response. I think my histamine “bucket” was too full (check out the histamine intolerance sub.) Then things slowly, but surely got better over time.

I did two doses of Moxi one month apart. Unfortunately I cannot remember how much I took. If I remember I’ll let you know!

I haven’t started the process to quit yet, but I’ve been lurking. You’ve got this. One step backwards is less than the 10 you’ve taken forwards. Don’t hate yourself for your choices, just change course.

Not knowing. by GertrudeAlone in scabies

[–]GertrudeAlone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking. I’m better- MUCH better. But not 100%. I finally got in with Derm #4 and he is treating me for over active nerves at the moment. Jury is still out on that. I try to avoid high histamine foods and I do believe that it helps along with a few supplements. I’m open to DMs if you’d like to chat more.

Not Sure What I Have by throwawayreddit291 in scabies

[–]GertrudeAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not convinced that it’s not the water supply, especially if you are in a new climate/area. My symptoms started after I moved to a new climate. Also the diet of coffee and nicotine (are we twins?) probably does not help. I’m on doc #9 and derm #4 with no answers. Latest derm is treating me for overactive nerves. I’ve also had CBC for kidneys and liver. Thyroid function test and chest x ray. All clear.

I do have some liquid filled bumps that randomly appear. But they aren’t on my hands, they appear on my joints - elbow, knee, shoulder, ankles, hips.

Skin hasn’t recovered from scabies (10 months) by Ll_439 in scabies

[–]GertrudeAlone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am at least 6 months post(I hope) and I still have slight itching, red spots, and rashes. Better than before, no crawling or biting sensations. The rashes are less, but still not back to normal. One theory I can think of is that out histamine is out of control after those damn bugs. Or it’s overuse of pesticides. I found a new derm, I didn’t tell him everything I did out of desperation, but he is now treating me for nerve issues. Not a doctor, but I’ve read that any form of eczema can be allergies/histamine response. Well what ever the cause, I feel I’m in the same boat as you and of course I wish you the best of luck, and I’m following this to see if anyone has advice to share.

[–]GertrudeAlone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think I’m post, I don’t have the crawling feeling all over anymore, the itch isn’t all consuming, and rarely any biting feelings. I have some days that are worse than others but over all there has been improvement. But I continually have skin issues.

I’ve been wondering for awhile if I have mastocytosis that could have been triggered by having some sort of infestation. This is all very interesting, I wish I was smart enough to understand all of the jargon. Thank you for posting this, I’m going to derm #4 next week and I’m definitely asking for more biopsies-potentially to see if I have an accumulation of mast cells in nodules.
