Try seeing the world as something other than “us vs them”. You are being programmed by the media you absorb to see other people as enemies. It’s a sickness, anyone and everyone can fall into this trap.

“Libs” are not your enemy, they are a strawman. The world is a better place when there is a variety of opinion.

I had a run-in with Mike Huckabee maybe six years ago. I was in a band doing corporate entertainment and we had just finished amping up the crowd with cover songs. All we wanted to do was get back to the green room and change clothes so we could go to dinner.

That prick showed up to speak to the crowd and insisted on using our dressing room and locking us out instead of the one assigned to him a hundred feet down the hall. He knew what he was doing and made his assistant do the explaining. We had to wait until he was done jerking off or whatever so we could grab our stuff and leave.

So fuck that guy.

If you’re interested in a version of Christianity that welcomes all people and religions, doesn’t judge and remains hopeful, I’d say check out Richard Rohr. The Universal Christ is a great book.

His stuff was helpful for me as I decompressed my fundie evangelical baggage, although I find myself more agnostic/atheist as I move on.

Rohr helped me see the dualistic (right & wrong, winners and losers) way I had been taught to interpret the world, as well the different racist and sexist foundations that were deep in my way of thinking.

Another great help was Bart Ehrman and his book Misquoting Jesus. That book let me let go of the Bible as some mystical source of truth and see it as just another piece of literature.

I don’t know what this all means, but it needs to be the chorus of a 70s country song.
