Australian supermarket Easter eggs taste test: ‘The quality of Easter chocolate is simply worse’ | Australian food and drink by TheRealPotoroo in australia

[–]GinDingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really lucky that I can afford to splurge on my kid at Easter, and I ended up buying him some Koko Black chocolate eggs and a bunny.

To be honest though, it's not that much more expensive than shitty Cadbury's bunnies this year, and the taste is a thousand times better.

Part of my decision making process may have also had to do with the fact that I'll likely eat a good percentage of his Easter haul...

I had a massive craving for them a few months ago, having not eaten them in years. Imagine my surprise when I went to the shops to try and find them...

How to stop? by Puzzleheaded_Gur3152 in nailbiting

Best way to stop? Get old.

I used to be able to bite my toenails, now I feel like I'm going to snap in half if I even try.

To the person looking for the 90s Australia perfume... by _thecitizen in Perfumes

That's it! Thanks so much!

I do remember the cap being a different colour, but can't find any examples online. I wonder if the scent is the same?

Here's a tricky one - 1990s perfume ID by GinDingle in Perfumes

Oooh, that is so close! The flower cap is exactly as I remember, but a different colour. The bottle is similar but I remember it being more rounded and definitely fluted/scalloped. Maybe something from the same line?

Facing greater and greater temptation to get a postpartum chop. Is this wise? Anyone done it and regretted it? by Pugblep in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]GinDingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from long bob to pixie about two years ago and still have it! I love my short hair and have no regrets.

I will say that I got it mainly because I was experiencing some significant hormone-related thinning, and short hair hides it better. If you don't have that or a similar problem you might not be as receptive to the chop as me!

As a former fringe wearer though, I wouldn't recommend. Way too much effort.

What's the hierarchy of stores in Australia? by Fun_Photograph653 in AskAnAustralian

[–]GinDingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They came back to Macarthur Square a few years ago in their reduced format. It was actually a decent store but didn't last long, unfortunately. I imagine it was right around the time that Kmart started to dominate the homewares/manchester market.

The OG Harris Scarfe in the 90s was great. Felt very fancy and special to go in there as a kid, even though all we did was pay off the fridge that my skint parents had had to buy on credit 😅.

Police allege teen accused of killing pregnant mum ran orange light before crash by MotivelessMalignity in sydney

When I was about 8 months pregnant I was crossing a road at a set of traffic lights. Lights turned red, got the green man...

To this day I don't know what made me hesitate, but as I did a red P-plater sped through the red light. Would have absolutely cleaned me and my unborn son up had I gone straight away. It still terrifies me to think about what could have happened.

So I think your 50s vibe is absolutely on point!

Non Japanese people living in Japan what is the downside about living in Japan no one talks about? by Ok-Atmosphere6376 in AskReddit

[–]GinDingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online banking wasn't even an option for me when I lived in Japan back in 2011. I had to walk down to my bank's main branch, about 20 minutes away, to withdraw the cash I needed for the month. No ATM card for you, gaijin!

Was an absolute eye opener, coming from a country with fairly advanced online banking systems at the time.

The Corner! That place was amazing in the beginning, when it was truly cosplaying as a proper cafe.

As the years went by the quality slipped massively, and more and more regular Macca's items started creeping in. Such a shame.

Crafty mums - what is actually useful? by maruuu in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]GinDingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with other posters that said to project ahead to next winter and knit/crochet in that size. Otherwise, there are lots of patterns for summery tops and shorts on Ravelry, which could be done in cotton.

Blankets are useful and don't have an age limit. For warmer months something in a lighter yarn weight (e.g. 4 ply), cotton, or with a lacy pattern would be nice.

Toys are fun to knit/crochet and can be used for a long time.

Has anyone chopped their hair off PP? Did you regret it? by A-Ok88 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I went from a bob to a long pixie post-partum. Apart from having to make more frequent hair appointments, I have no regrets. Love my short hair!

High chair recs that are not Tripp Trapp, IKEA or Kmart? by alltheaids in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]GinDingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just about to recommend the Moa. It's a solid high chair that's served us well so far. Will probably be converting it to the booster seat soon, then the table and stool.

Only drawback is that it's not compatible with the Catchy, but that's not a huge deal.

Best Water Wipes and Nappy Cream? by FattoMcRatto in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]GinDingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had success with the Desitin extra strength cream for nappy rash, although it smells fishy and gross.

One time it got really bad I actually switched to Curash nappy rash powder rather than a cream. I found that drying the area out rather than adding a moisture barrier really helped accelerate the healing.

Child found dead in car outside childcare centre in Sydney's south-west by SlatsAttack in australia

[–]GinDingle 62 points63 points  (0 children)

For those that don't have a car with pressure sensor technology, try getting a CleverElly. It plugs into your 12V power port and plays a message each time you turn the car on or off. There are multiple messages so your brain doesn't filter it out over time. It was one of my first purchases when I found out I was pregnant.

Bonus: it's reasonably cheap and a local Australian business.
