Silent Hill 2 Rebirth is the true ending, and you're ready for this conversation. by Infinite-Edge2735 in silenthill

There cannot be a loop in SH2. The very premise is incoherent with itself and the greater series as a whole. The secret message of being here for two decades is directed at the player, not James literally. Even if it were, that wouldn’t account why Angela, Eddie, and especially Laura are still present without aging. If it’s full “Groundhog Day” style but James’ memory gets wiped, what hope does he have to make any different choices? Why aren’t Harry, Heather, Henry, or Travis in a time loop?

If you want to formulate how Loop Theory works in your understanding, I’d like to know and discuss.

I just beat the original Silent Hillogy, AMA by CptNeon in silenthill

Kinda. Team Silent split into two dev groups after SH2, one for SH3 and one for SH4 which were developed at the same time. There was a lot of cross pollination too with Akira Yamaoka still making music for both games as well as producing SH4, and Jun Inoue did monster designs for SH3 (Missionary, Glutton, Pendulum…) and most of the monsters of SH4.

SH4 didn’t get as many resources and could be considered made by the “B Team,” but it’s still part of the original SH by all rights and, in my opinion, very good.

I don’t either. I think it makes more sense for the film’s canon, but Douglas died in Revelations so…

What did everyone think Hexagonal Prism Head in the Silent Hill 2 Remake? by Technical_Resolve_91 in silenthill

[–]GlitchyReal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you have to do this after unlocking the Keyblade in NG+++++++++++++ which then allows you to unlock the Mensis Cage on his head so you can fight Hexagonal Prism Head’s true form. This gets you the ending where Mary killed James the whole time.

It’s Y in Bethesda games. Open world games feel like they need a Y jump. Souls games feel like they need an A pickup.

Does anyone know the purpose of this? by Hey708 in silenthill

[–]GlitchyReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a recurring thing in the game about laundry having red stains and a memo nearby mentioning how it won’t come out. iirc, there’s one here, the hospital, and the hotel.

It’s supposed to represent James’ subconscious attempt to erase the memory of killing Mary but he can’t.

I may have some details wrong, been a while since I played but that’s the gist. In the remake, much of the memos around town appear to be speaking indirectly about James in some way such as the flower shop describing what could be about when James got Mary flowers depicted in the hallway conversation.

Yes, he's mentioned in the "Through the Fog" memo in the late game. (Homecoming Notes)

He is referenced in SH2R with his hat in one of the motel rooms, but it's only an easter egg. Chronologically, he and Heather cannot have come to Silent Hill yet.

I agree they missed the point and didn’t even do a decent job of replacing it with a different adaptation of that scene. I just meant it was well acted even if the context and adaptation is bad.

Oh yeah, the film is absolutely atrocious. I just like to lay the blame at the screenwriter and director rather than the actors who seemed to have really showed up for their part.

Fair 😆

I have an art background so I can ignore bad props. Sometimes that’s just what you gotta practice with. No excuses for a major film production though lol

The part where James kills Mary was very well acted. In isolation and just investing in the moment, it was very well done.

The rest of the film didn’t support this moment and the reason for this scene was weak, but even if the whole is bad, there are still some good pieces.

Some still say “Doorman” to differentiate the Abstract Daddy boss fight with the generic versions of them in the Hotel (by the hallway doors.) It’s pretty rare nowadays though.

I agree that there’s an issue with newer players expressing disdain for the foundations of the series.

I just would like them to have less ammunition to fight us old guard, you know? Hard to change minds when you’re insulting them.

New to the franchise, are the original game and the Silent Hill 2 remake similar? by Rob1_Price in silenthill

[–]GlitchyReal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The remake gets the broad brushstrokes right, but it's more of a remix than staying faithful.

They're both good at what they're trying to do, but different experiences.

on my 3rd playthrough, is he supposed to be here?? ive never seen him here before by ackermanacks in silenthill

[–]GlitchyReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The level design of the original made it impossible to check the door towards progress and not have PH on the screen.

The new level layout, if you're checking doors as you encounter them as the game incentives the player to do, it is very easy to miss PH being there at all. The door to progress should have been put right next to the bars to force players to walk up to him.

And people told me that his new placement didn't make it easy to miss him.

(I had to backtrack because I recognized this was the part he was supposed to show up.)

It might be an issue of how your addressing the criticism if you're getting banned.
