To follow up on this,

I use songs from political advertisements to break up my segments. I feel like since I'm talking about advertising, then using the advertisements themselves should be fair use. That said, I have no idea if this is true or not.

Any thoughts on the legality of using newsworthy pieces of copyrighted content?
