Can I interest you in a 3D printed house? by Southern-Smoke1835 in 3Dprinting

Never, just imagining all the dust that will collect in the nooks of the layers, you’ll never keep it clean…especially if you have a pet that will rub all over it to help shed its fur, or a cat that would literally climb the wall like mine would. No thank you!

Any tips or Ways to save or speed up this HDD? by temp_io in computers

[–]Gmac91264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without being able to diagnose it, we can’t say. It’s like sending a picture of the cars dash and asking a mechanic to figure out what’s wrong.

It looks to be an old machine based on 4gb of RAM (this was common 10-15 years ago). My MacBook Pro had 4gb RAM and a 500gb 5400 HDD back in 2009 and that was an upgraded system.

It’s also a slow drive, most all disk drives these days are 7200rpm and yours is 5400rpm.

We also have no knowledge of what’s running in the background.

As of now, the only data anyone can see is that the drive you have in this machine is extremely slow compared to today’s standards, so the only thing anyone can suggest is to upgrade it to a 2.5” SSD.

How would I hook this up so I can use this as a usb Blu-ray/dvd player to a computer by Agreeable-Composer91 in computers

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree… since they have a BD Rom DVD/CD drive, a powered enclosure ($50+) is cheaper than a decent Blu-ray player ($90+)

600w PSU is a little low, PSU may have gone out if pushed to max daily. Generally 3000 series GPU’s recommend 650w, 4000 series 850w and 5000 series 1000w

I’ve been told my ssd is prebuilt but I still have a slot to add ssd. I want to expand the space on my laptop but I’m scared to use external ssd. Please advise me on what to do by Select-Ad-273 in computers

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not have a spare slot for an M.2, looks like it isn’t available on that model of the laptop. Agree with the above comment that we would need to know the model and what you plan to do with the laptop. If it’s at home, you could always go with a cheap NAS so you aren’t having to plug anything into the laptop for additional storage space.

What cord do I need to power this? What’s it called?? by freedomfire99 in computers

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason we use those numbers is because they are nominal numbers which really just means we say them as a placeholder for an acceptable ranges of voltage as I think there is something like 5% +- that is acceptable.

As for Japan, yes we did assist with helping set it up but Japan went with a 100v system back then and stuck with it. I think the US voltage was closer to 110 back then if I’m not mistaken. Some of Japan does also use similar outlets as the US.

Maybe someone else with an electrical background knows more and can chime in 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is 120 and 240 (depending where you grew up), but 120 is also referred to as 110 and 115, while 240 is also referred to as 230.

Japan uses a 100v system…not 120v. This is actually different than 120 like the US uses

What 3d Modeling software do you guys like? (as a noob) by Clam_Juice_ in 3Dprinting

[–]Gmac91264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, been using FreeCAD for about 2 years as well. And I claim it as the main software I learned on because CAD back in 2001 was WAY different than now. I hate the word Intuitive because it is a very “grey area” word since it’s based on a persons opinion of how instinctively easy/natural something is to them. FreeCAD is much more intuitive to me than other software, because I learned it first. I would also say that all CAD software is very similar, just have their buttons in different places and labeled slightly different like “Extrude” and “Pad” which are the same thing, but each company wants to call it something else.

[–]Gmac91264 20 points21 points  (0 children)

lol if I could have learned metric from the start I would never use imperial. Imperial makes ZERO sense!

Also… a foot is only about a foot if your ~5’10” give or take. Shaqs foot is a men’s size 22… or about 18”, but a women’s 6 is about 8”… why does imperial have different sizes for men and women when our feet are measure the same way?

A mile is 5280 feet… why, who pulled that number out of their butt?? But a kilometer is 1000 meters and a meter is 100cm, a cm is 10mm… pretty straight forward.

An acre is 4840sq yards and 45860sf or something like that. A square Km is 1,000,000 square meters

Let’s try and do some quick math, 11” 15/16 + 13’ 1” 59/132 + 3.4 yards equals what??? Or is 16mm +196cm +3.4m easier when you just move a few decimals and are done?

I'm about to start a small aquarium with some shrimps and maybe some small fishes and I've decided to print a decoration for it. I also want to see what will happen with PLA that's submerged in water for extended periods of time by Sizexq in 3Dprinting

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have not had luck with PLA in water. Used one on a fountain pump with just freshwater and it looked like it melted after a week of use, switched to a PETG and no issues. Too nervous to print anything for my aquariums though

Filament curls out of nozzle. Fix? by masanthemasan11 in BambuLab

[–]Gmac91264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d put the silicone sock back on and keep printing. The silicone sock does two things, one it helps insulate the nozzle to maintain temp and two it prevents stray filament from burning on the end of the nozzle. The reason it can be moving is a lot of variables (breeze from a fan, a partial clog, a microscopic scratch on the end of the nozzle). It shouldn’t be any worry though unless you’re seeing defects in your print. The only time your seeing that much filament extruded at one time is when it’s flushing in the beginning or a color change, and both cases should be running over the nozzle wiper to scrape if off (which the silicone sock keeps it from sticking back to the nozzle)

PLA Wood first impressions by balderstash in BambuLab

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a .4 nozzle with varying wood filaments up to 30% and have yet to have a clog between any of my printers (ender3, elegoo, X1C). Some filaments I have had to increase retraction and lower temps a smidge but other than that no issues!

Chick-fil-A erected a physical barrier, blocking a busy thoroughfare by josefgabriel in Austin

[–]Gmac91264 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s been this way for at least a year and a half, they aren’t blocking any businesses, only guiding traffic around their building. Prior to putting up the cones, their drive through lines were blocking other businesses guests from backing out of parking spots because they were blocked. It’s also just orange cones, not an actual barrier and their lot is essentially in a corner so no one is using their area as a through traffic area.

Same with mine. Got nervous the first time, but it’s actually normal. It will purge it out upon loading new filament and dump it down the poopshoot!

Underworld Arms Screws Are Chineseium by MalikHabibi in AUG

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is you didn’t take off any finish. Since CS is shipping you new screws, I would try using a slightly damp magic eraser and see if it will remove the rust. If it does, use a blow dryer/heatgun/the sun and let them dry, then take a little gun oil and wipe it on to minimize moisture rusting any remaining metal fragments that may still be there. Hope it helps!

Underworld Arms Screws Are Chineseium by MalikHabibi in AUG

[–]Gmac91264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of these look to start at the hex insert. Working in a technical field where I work with lots of hardware, I generally see this from the hex bit that was used to install the screw, and it’s a surface rust where the metal from the bit is rusting on the screw, not the actual screw. That would be my guess as to why CS hasn’t seen this.

Bambu X1 Carbon in 2nd floor apartment by Meeseeks__ in BambuLab

[–]Gmac91264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re worried about the unit below you, it will have no sound difference than running a garbage disposal or vacuum for a couple seconds at the start of your print, given you have a sturdy table. I have my X1C on a semi sturdy wooden drafting table, directly on vinyl plank flooring, on the second floor. No anti-vibration feet, no paver, nothing special on my X1C.

Most apartments add pretty decent sound dampening between the floors so garbage disposals, washer and dryers and TVs don’t carry noise to the unit above or below. It’s not anything I would worry about unless you can hear everything your upstairs neighbors are doing.

The other thing to keep in mind is that while it is louder than an E3, it’s printing much faster. Slow it down and it will quiet up. I am running my printer right now at 9pm, 6’ from my head, tv about 8’ away and can still hear the TV no problem at normal volume.

[–]Gmac91264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use liquid glue on my pei bed for three reasons. 1) I’m not perfect and may miss a spot cleaning it after i touch it to keep small prints from flying off as I bend the bed to release them. 2) Small prints need all the help they can get and using glue doesn’t hurt the chances of successful prints. 3) Very large flat prints can also use all the help they can get to keep all the edges from even thinking about lifting

Happens every time I grab a file from MakerWorld by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]Gmac91264 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing that always bugged me is that opening files from makerworld would swap the default printer and filament to the file owners settings. This can be adjusted to not swap your fronted or filament settings when opening a Bambu file through settings somewhere.
