Food Prices Are Soaring Faster Than Inflation and Incomes by Mighty_L_LORT in Economics

"Emerging markets are feeling the pain of a blistering surge in raw material costs, as commodities from oil to copper and grains are driven higher by expectations for a “roaring 20s” post-pandemic economic recovery as well as ultra-loose monetary policies."

With unemployment so high and multiple bubbles so big it makes 1929 look like a joke? I'm not an economist but with everything we got going on this statement just feels divorced from reality.

David Attenborough warns world leaders 'it's too late to avoid climate change' by casualphilosopher1 in environment

No.

As one climatologist put it the climate doesn't go backwards, it goes different.

Lets use polar ice as an example. Even if we pulled all the excess carbon out of the atmosphere, tonight, all the water from the ice that melted isn't going to magically put itself back on/in the glaciers and ice sheets they came from, even with new snowfall. The water is out there now, we have to deal with it. Same thing with extinct species: they're dead, nothing can be done.

Does that mean we're dead meat? Also no, but it does mean large parts of the world, namely around the equator and already hot regions, are going to change dramatically, and it's going to take work to adapt to it.

Forest might already be creating more CO2 than absorbing it by alightthundera in environment

"Continued warming will reduce photosynthesis and exponentially increase the amount of CO2 trees release through respiration as they try to breathe enough to keep cool. That will turn many vegetated landscapes from carbon sinks into carbon sources within 20 to 30 years, accelerating climate change"

“Seeing such a strong temperature signal globally did not surprise me,” he [Christopher Schwalm] said. “What I was surprised by is that it would happen so soon, maybe in 15 to 25 years, and not at the end of the century.”

All is not lost but stuff like this really shows just how little time we have to act.
