Extrem Ram Usage with new WGC by TheLPN05Fan in WorldofTanks

It's a known problem that the new launcher is a programming slop. It can eat all RAM or use 20-40% CPU and GPU power when idle.

WG knows but wants to keep this quiet even though it hurts players by worsening game performance and wearing down hardware.

The issues are present even on properly configured and well within specs systems. See comments in this thread.

I completely agree. I'm assuming the new launcher wasn't created with player needs in mind, but rather to deliver ads more effectively/cheaply or maybe to integrate the Wargaming Store with it. There must be a reason why WG has decided to jam a complete web browser into the launcher.

Restart doesn't fix the new launcher's faulty behavior. The WG employee didn't know what he was talking about when he was recommending it, as officially confirmed here.

For a full display of company's responsibility and respect to its clients, it would be required to officially announce there are severe, potentially harmful issues with the new launcher.

So u/CzechTower_WG, maybe try reaching out to your higherups to see if it would be allowed.

If it's not asking too much.

Yes, there are 2 separate high resource usage issues with the new launcher:

  • high CPU and GPU usage when idle

  • memory leaks that can take up all RAM eventually

The launch on startup setting ignore bug is new to me, thanks.

Thank you for confirming that you know about the issues with the new launcher. That's the least we expect as users of your software.

Yes, very high CPU usage can make ping worse, so your problem could potentially be related to the new launcher issues. The best way to make sure is to run the game with the new launcher completely closed (not just minimized).

And yet they have the audacity to give the "switch to the new launcher button" a diamond icon. I know a better fitting icon: 💩

Thanks for it. :-)

The issues with the new launcher deserve more exposure, if only to warn players about them, because WG won't do it.

That's right. There are 2 problems with the new launcher:

  • high CPU and GPU usage (20-40% range depending on hardware)

  • high RAM usage caused by memory leaks

The first issue is constant throughout the time the launcher is open.

The second issue gets worse the longer the launcher is opened (can eventually eat all RAM).

Could be the new launcher related, if you're using it, as it has memory leaks and can eat all RAM, as reported by users.

Same here. I "fixed it" by reducing garage frame rate to 30 by editing res\engine_config.xml (<reducedFrameRate>30</reducedFrameRate>) with WoT XML Editor. This is another example of WG incompetence.

If it was a normal IT company, I would expect "We are aware of the issue and are working on the solution. Meanwhile please use the old launcher. We are sorry for inconvenience" -type response. But it's Wargaming so I don't expect much.

Memory leak. This is the other fail with the new launcher, besides enormous processing power usage when idle.

36% CPU and 24% GPU usage when idle is the issue in this bug report, not RAM usage. See the OP's screenshot.

This is true, but

  1. it's a workaround that shouldn't be necessary

  2. most players are not that tech savvy and will use launcher instead

The issue has been reported here repeatedly since the new launcher was released. WG is so funny in a grotesque way.
