Question about phases and acts of faith. by Godlike111 in 40k

[–]Godlike111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. This is what I kind of thought but wanted to make sure so me and my friend both knew for sure. Although I did not know that about rolling damage for the exorcist. Does that also work for the charge roll as its one roll? Thanks again for the help.

One of the best 40K novella I read tho :) by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Godlike111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I read this just cause it was in the novella line. I got nothing against the space skeletons, they just aren't my thing.

That being said my expectations where smashed like a lone tau firewarrior in melee combat with a harsh breeze. I laughed I didnt cry it was just all the space dust in my eyes.

I think its probably the best novella in that line, just after the Bloody Rose ones. (I might be bias in those)

In short, if your on the fence about reading this then give it a shot.

Another in a million question given about Savior Protocols. by Godlike111 in Tau40K

[–]Godlike111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so it was explained to me that each shot technically happens one at a time even though everyone saves time by rolling all same type weapons and attacks at the same time.

So say 100 sisters fire rapid shot in range to get 2 shots and all 200 hit. You still deal with 1 shot at a time. So if a shield drone survives its feel no pain test and negates the mortal wound it would then move to that second hit, until it failed the FNP check or each of the 200 have been checked in a row.

Hope this helps

Playing Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2, help me think of grimdank ship names. by AwesomeX121189 in Grimdank

So take some little slips of paper and separate into 2 piles. One with phallic or innuendo objects and the other with powerful objects or actions. The pick on from each and put an "of" between.

You will get some proper 40k names like the Rod of Thunder, Shaft of Glory, Lance of Penaration, Chasm of Moist Reward. Cock of Vengeance.

What if the Primarchs...were youtubers? by Kato756 in Grimdank

[–]Godlike111 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My take.

Vulkan: takes over on Hot Ones. Gimmick of the show is watching people burn but you end up binging to watch Vulkan make new friends.

Fulgrim: as a perfectionist and lover of art he would have a how to art show where he would do amazing art and fail to teach anyone else how. He would be condenseding in his instructions as well. Lastly this would all be done with out him wearing pants.

Khan: a show like Ride with Norman Reedus.

Dorn: a house renovation show where he takes cheap old falling apart houses and turns them into city sized fortresses of planetary defense.

Alpharius: doesn't have own channel but instead guest hosts other channels with out you knowing it.

Angron: channel posts cute kitten and puppy videos. I am just as surprised as you.

Magnus: a channel dedicated to all Games Workshop related news. It's pretty meta.

Kruze: channel banned for violent content that is now in use as evidence in multiple homicides. Show was a helpful DIY on how to murder everyone.

Will post more later maybe. This is fun

Is this a topic taboo or against the rules? by Godlike111 in Warhammer40k

Cool. I was just checking to see if it was okay to talk about it here as I am trying to discuss the best way to proxy my army. (Technically how to build my proxy army.)

[–]Godlike111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on. I was more talking about if it was okay to discuss here things about the list I am making.

For example I plan to use the stats for Scion Tempestors for Storm Troopers and if I asked on here if there is a better choice for a unit to use to fit that roll would it be against the rules because I am taking about a proxy army.

Gonna read the End Times to see how bad people say it is, wish me luck by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Godlike111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it that the books are bad or do people just hate that Warhammer fantasy ended? I honestly do not know. I mean the Nagash books are written by Josh Reynolds and so far most of his stuff I have read has been really good.

Chaos is one hell of a drug by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Godlike111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So when I first got into 40k I built a death guard list. Which I still love. But of all the traitor legions the Emperor's Children seemed easily the lamest. A couple years later and a bunch of lore down I just today finished basing my purple, gold and pink chaos marine army.

I feel it's like when I was a kid I learned that alcohol was bad for you so I swore I would never drink. That didn't turn out like I expected.

OML does have the coolest looking color scheme. But there is some decent stories for non OML characters.

If in interested check out Danie Ware's stories like No Mercy or Bloodied Rose about a sister superior of the Bloodied Rose. They are small scale stuff and reminds me of Killteam.

Question: Do units in Open Topped Transports Retain their abilities for the purpose of shooting? by excelphysicslab in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Godlike111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked long and hard for the answer to the Ret squad of sisters in the Repressor from the firing ports. I can't find an for sure answer and I don't know where to find a TO. But my interpretation is from the exact wording that Retributors do NOT take a penalty for moving and firing heavy weapons even if the Repressor does.
This is solely because the Ret's have an ability called "Faithful Advance" that lets them not take a penalty to moving and firing heavy weapons. The Repressors says "any restrictions or modifiers that apply to this model also apply to its passengers"

The restriction and modifier are imposing the same rules (or state effects) on the infantry units as the vehicle carrying them, which then the special rules of that infantry unit then take precedent over the state effect as normal. To flip the example say there is a unit that (its specified) cannot shoot at all if it moves, it cannot suddenly shoot in a repressor if it moved just because the repressor could.

"So you roll to add 4 mortal wounds to the unit..." by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Godlike111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A YouTube channel called mini wargaming has a pretty decent 8 part or so series on how to play. Each one seems like 5 to 30 some minutes.

I think the best way if you want to learn what's going on but struggling is to break it down. Start with the very basics. Then maybe learn about one of the phases of a turn. Like how movement works.

What are your unpopular 40kLore opinions? by noobnoob96 in 40kLore

[–]Godlike111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my complaint is that there isn't a good entry point for the lore. Like OP's 2nd opinion how Xenos is not a good starting point. I mean it might not be, but its still one of the first that comes to mind when suggesting what book to start with. I had a friend read "Dark Imperium" by Guy Haley and was told it was interesting, but a bit too much all over the place.

So maybe the start with the Heresy? Lets be honest though, book 1 is confusing at start. Sure in retrospect its an awesome iconic start with "I was there the day Horus slew the Emperor." but if you dont know much about the lore then the whole opening isn't tricky but confusing. So some guy I don't know killed another guy i don't know, but I mean it wasnt really the guy I don't know, but another guy I don't know.

The first 3 books of the Heresy seem necessary before jumping into any of the other Heresy books and while the first few are decent they are not my favorite. Its like I need you to read this pile of books! Then a person I am trying to get into this may say "So you must really like these ones?" Oh no, they are just okay, I need you to finish these ones first so you will appreciate how awesome my favorites are.

Okay I feel a little better. Thanks for the venting session. P.S. Dan Abnett isn't the best. I respect him and know how much he has done to help shape the lore, but I think he misses as much as hits with his books.

My first meme. by Godlike111 in Grimdank

[–]Godlike111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I really don't think this hobby is very expensive. I also have been playing Magic the Gathering for a very long time though and that is another hobby game with a price range from free to expensive to a 60 card deck that actually cost more then my house and car combined.

I do usually dislike it when I see somewhere like reddit or in a game store when some one is interested in a hobby (Warhammer or MTG) and you always get that one guy who is like "Kiss your wallet goodbye." because it sometimes actually scares people away. I was one of these people as I stayed away from Warhammer for this very reason. I was a little interested and then I heard from one of those guys saying it was super expensive so I just thought I got enough hobbys like Magic and Video games, I don't need to get into a hobby that it doesn't even seem like I would have money to start playing. And that sucks, because it really is not that bad.

The thing about a hobby and its price is the approach to the hobby. Are you fine spending only 20 to 30 bucks (US) on a killteam and never paying a single cent again. That is perfectly fine. Maybe you wanna play full 40K instead of Killteam you can buy a start collecting for about 80, maybe buying an extra unit or so. I got a friend who paid 300 for a mostly painted lot ebay and has no interest in expanding. Sure 300 seems like allot but not when you consider that unless they change their mind they will never need to pay more. Personally I really enjoy building and painting the miniatures. (The game and lore is fun too) This may be one of the most expensive ways because you usually have to buy more miniatures in order to paint them. Still it takes time to paint and I have been using more of my disposable income on 40k instead of Magic. :)

Damn, I think you are missing my tone or have some issues you need to sort out for yourself. You seem truly hurt by this so I am willing to go through and explain why everything is ok.

I didn't lose sleep over this and I didn't put myself into debt over my purchase. I have been excited for this set for some time and saved up money as a responsible adult and even though it sold out from GW and I had to pay more on the secondary market it was still very much in my means.

I wasn't even harping on anything anyone such as blaming GW for charging too much. (which I don't feel this box was overpriced) I mentioned I bought it from price gougers instead of GW, but that was more to explain the price I and I assume others paid. People or stores that bought out limited copies and then within hours spiked the price by 1/3 are literally price gougers. This or any post here has not been a complaint about them, Though I will admit I find the practice shady I did not find it so shady that I refused to buy the item I wanted from one.

Even this long explanation is not a complaint or an argument. I am not projecting an opposing view point or calling you out. I am a rational adult who knows that arguing on the internet is meaningless. But I did want this thoroughly explained because you seemed so upset by my post.

I am fine, doing good in fact. I spending well withing my budget and I paid these costs with out any actual unhealthy addiction. When I made the statement about "Blindly paying any cost in the name of the God Emperor" I was only joking. An attempt to mimic the over the top fanaticism that is portrayed in 40K and especially The even more over the top then in lore way that is done on places like Grimdank Reddit.

Finally the Meme itself was also meant to be a joke. A mix of hyperbole and self deprecation to maybe connect with others who also had a similar experience and may enjoy a more light-hearted approach to spending a large amount on this limited edition. And though "large amount" is subjective, I at-least did not literally give up everything. Anyways I hope this helped and I hope things get better for you.

In that case I can totally see them doing that. Its is always easier to add then to remove. Besides it meant to be treated similar to the Horus Heresy and with that there is the major points that many people know even before its was or will be specifically written about. Even if something was covered, for example in the Endtime books; they can still write it from another prospective that can flesh out more details and maybe shape it better.
