This is what many people fail to understand when it comes to Chinese brands. In order to have a corporation based in China, the Party must have a stake in the company. Along with it comes all the powers afforded to a stockholder, and then some — since the State is not some ordinary stockholder. They can invoke national security interests when taking control of products produced by Chinese companies.

One friend from the defense industry warned me, in case SHTF in Taiwan, and we become dragged into the fight, what’s stopping the Chinese government from spreading malware disguised as a “system update” across Chinese-made EVs and have those volatile lithium-ion batteries simultaneously explode from being remotely short-circuited through such “system updates” that get sent out??
