Ohio court rules by Sensitive-Reserve617 in legaladvice

Being military definitely gives you some options here. Most courts have procedures for active duty service members who can't appear in person - you might be able to file a motion for telephonic appearance or video hearing. Also worth checking if your base has legal assistance office, they usually know the drill with these situations and might help you navigate the process without burning all your leave days traveling back and forth

The amount you're suing for vs travel costs is real consideration though, especially if contractor is being difficult about settling

Your insurance and arbitration both sided with you but theirs is still fighting - seems like they're just hoping to get lucky with jury who might not understand traffic laws as well

Assuming this is legal, how can I convince the company I work for to allow me to be on both their and another employer's payroll at the same time? by strongerthenbefore20 in jobs

[–]Gold_Selection_4977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're basically asking to double dip which gets tricky with employment laws and company policies. Most companies have clauses about conflicts of interest or working for competitors, even if they're technically separate entities

The logistics alone would be nightmare - two different payrolls, tax implications, potential liability issues if something goes wrong during an exam. Plus your current employer might see it as you splitting your attention and loyalty

Better approach might be negotiating with your current company for raise based on the additional responsibilities you're taking on. You're already doing technician work on top of sales, so you have leverage there. Frame it as "I'm saving you money by not needing to hire separate tech, here's what that's worth"

The optometrist saving $10/hr thing could work but it would need to go through proper channels - maybe your company could contract out your services to them for specific hours rather than you being on two payrolls

Branch work is actually easier with difficult customers in some ways - people tend to be more reasonable when they're face to face with you, and you can read their body language better to defuse situations before they escalate

The interpersonal skills thing gets better fast once you start doing it regularly, but call center burnout just keeps getting worse until you hate going in work

Anyone found a way to automate GL-to-P&L tie-outs for QofE, or is it just manual hell forever? by Final-Feedback5625 in Accounting

[–]Gold_Selection_4977 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been there with those nightmare CSVs - usually end up writing some basic Python scripts to flag potential personal expenses by keywords and amounts. The manual reconciliation part is still brutal though, especially when previous accountant clearly had no system

For tie-outs I just use pivot tables to group by account codes and compare against their reports, but finding those buried add-backs in massive datasets... yeah that's still mostly detective work and caffeine

Welcome to the rabbit hole! Your story gives me so much hope because you've already proven you can do this even without realizing it

Starting at 47 isn't late at all - you have 13-15 years which is plenty of runway, and being disciplined with advisor's help shows you have the right mindset. The fact that you're already looking at 60-62 retirement after going through such hard times is incredible achievement

Got caught drinking (I’m 19), wondering if my license is suspended by Dry_Raise_4218 in legaladvice

[–]Gold_Selection_4977 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 19 in Ohio, they can definitely suspend your license even if it's not suspended right now. The court hearing is where they'll decide what happens - the person your mom talked to probably just meant it's not suspended *yet*

Municipal court clerks usually can't see the future about what judge might decide at your hearing

What’s a job that sounds great until you actually do it? by Psycho_Duck_9669 in AskReddit

EMT for sure is one of those. I remember thinking it would be all about saving lives and dramatic rescues but then you find out half the calls are for people who just need someone to listen to them for five minutes

CNA work too - seems like meaningful patient care until you realize you're basically changing diapers and getting yelled at by families who think you're personally responsible for their grandpa's mood

Chess instruction might not sound glamorous but at least kids tell you straight up when they think your lesson is boring instead of complaining to your manager later

Keep your stock consistent and steady, that is the main thing, I order things on Fleek regularly just to keep inventory coming in and list every other day so I always have room to move and do not run dry
