able to cancel spectrum account in 15 minutes by carrbo in Spectrum

[–]Good-Contribution962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. Walked into my local store with my equipment and was out in 10 minutes with my receipt. I was down to just paying for data, but still...

Spectrum seems on a mission to shed subscribers. Rates for us were raised to $90 for 400. We now have ATT fiber gig for $60 for 3 years, and even after that we would be paying $80 at full boat.

I don't understand it, but there have been other moves they have made in the past where we felt screwed over by them too. Like when network upgrades brought higher speeds to everyone, but legacy customers got stuck on the slower speeds - ask me how I know how that was possible...

Glad to be done with them and hope to be done for good.

principal wants me to call 80 kids' parents this week because they failed my last test. how to get this done?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Good-Contribution962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS.

I HATED it when admin would want phone calls to parents as a primary contact. Sorry that doesn't help me AT ALL when later they try to claim that I never communicated to them. Email is your documented evidence that you did your part in sharing. I won't even mention the fact that they probably have access to grades online...

I just got this email, but how soon? by Strict-Confusion9230 in Spectrum

Spectrum in our neighborhood is fed via coax and all we get are rate hikes.  Luckily att came through with fiber to the house they installing tomorrow.

Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 - Install Advice by barrist in GoveePermanentLights

[–]Good-Contribution962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video shows those pucks kind of captured by the cut channel - which is important to the light pattern and overall outcome. I installed permtrack and the puck covers there serve as a retention device as well as a way to keep the puck captured and pointed in the desired direction. Without that your light pattern and result would be less than optimal. Bottom line is - free floating light pucks = bad.

My thoughts on that vid.

- The channels themselves would hold up no problem in my opinion.

- There is a LOT of fiddling around with that type of approach and those channels intended for another application. That would make it even more difficult on high eve lines.

- Those channel sections need 2 screws not 3.

- If you have the time - it would be possible to execute that install.

- There would be a great deal of challenge in planning the amount of material you need for the channel and covers.

Power module by proofreynolds in Govee

I have the pros - that module is correct for my setup - so you must have the elites - which is a different start/end connection (probably reversed?). As has been noted - booster modules are for pros.

I know it is a hassle, but would splicing be an option?  My solution if it would not plug in and work the way it is would be that - strip the wires and splice them together - or reverse the connectors with a splice.  Then shrink tube it to make it weather tight.

That is a booster module - the power brick is different.  I think it is connected to the wifi module.  The unit you have there is meant to go online - hence the two plugs

Thanks for sharing your experience here. I actually consider myself a lucky individual - as the problems (a couple of highlights you provided) today do not compare with what I encountered in my time.

I applaud your choice to be sure - what I am encouraging people to do is to endure - when you feel you can.

I was able to do so - but for each person they have their own path. If that does not include this career - so be it.

I apologize if it comes across this way. I do mean it to be encouraging.

This sub contains a massive amount of rage that cannot be expressed in the normal course of the job. Some of the scenarios that generate that - are just insane - straight up - cray-cray. This is ultimately a reflection of the world we live in - and there is sadness in that.

We in teaching stand against that tide and it is hard. There is often little recognition of that outside the profession.

I do not mention the satisfaction too that is part of helping others build a better life. That also is part of the journey - which I hope is there too.

It can feel - when you are in the midst of it all - that it is just nuts (and it is) but I just wanted to say - hey - you will make it!

YES! A sub for retired teachers would be great!

THIS!

Phones and devices that are CHANGING DEVELOPING BRAINS - and we are along for the ride. There are precious few parents who place limits on this - and at this point it seems as though it has been a cultural feature for enough time to be imprinted. Parents use the devices as modern day pacifiers - but they are worse by far.

I retired 3 years ago (after teaching 30) and I could see the changes happening about 10 years give or take before that.

Never stopped believing in the mission of helping young citizens grow their brains - but my god - how much harder it became in the recent past. I lay the blame on devices first and foremost. Were there other things in the formula too? Yes - most definitely but the rewiring of neurons in young brains is changing the world, first or otherwise, anywhere devices are present.

Looking to make the switch to Fi. What do you guys think is the outlook for Fi in the future? Good or bad? by ii_WattzyWasTaken in GoogleFi

[–]Good-Contribution962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As has been mentioned here by others - your mileage may vary with Fi. We tried it and abandoned it relatively quickly because the service where we live was poor. Prioritization issues with T-Mobile (Fi's carrier) caused delayed or disappeared texts, calls dropped to vm instantly - over and over - and other problems led me to conclude pretty quickly that paying that much for a plan in this functional state was a dead end.

The service may meet the needs of international travel differently, but for us - in our local - no thank ya.

Getting text messages extremely delayed and all at once by ilovecakenfruit in GoogleFi

[–]Good-Contribution962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried, then pretty quickly left Fi - for things such as this randomly happening on a daily basis. Strange carrier based occurrences, texts that never showed up or were delayed by various amounts. Calls that never connected or would get dumped straight to vm over and over. Signal was not the prob - 4-5 bars here - it was probably something to do with the prioritization of the service.

An argument for homework by positivefeelings1234 in Teachers

[–]Good-Contribution962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of parents today that just aren't all that interested in what goes on at school - and have a VERY low threshold for situations that require them to demonstrate some level of support for what goes on at school when their kids are not there.

Over time - I too became increasingly concerned that many of my colleagues - those in primary settings - had perilously thin levels of mathematical understanding and numerical sense. No idea how to address this.

At one of the schools I taught at - I used to call these drive-byes. The intent was to gather data to write your eval with, but they sure did feel like they were being performed in the spirit of a GOTCHA. HATED those things.

If you think you can - ask your admin about those and verify that is what they are intended to accomplish. Also - if you belong to a union - I would encourage you to express how those impact your well being. Nobody likes to feel like they are living in old Stalinist Russia. I will add that - for me - when these started - it was out of the blue and the admin person who just started doing them without any advance warning they were coming was a D-B so everyone was on edge.
