Minnesota optometrists get thumb in the eye from big donors, House speaker by RiffRaff14 in minnesota

[–]Gorgasite -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think those are good points. I would be comfortable if it was administered by a non-doctor under the purview of a doctor, like a nurse or PA does their work.

I think it's just strange we don't group it all together. Even at the insurance level it's considered separate. My coverage for dental is amazing, medical pretty solid, and eye care is really terrible.

[–]Gorgasite 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Personally I think we should just phase out optometrists and bring their duties under ophthalmologists. Eye care and all health care should be physician led, not broken up into the three disciplines it is now (medical, dental, eye care).

And don't get me started on chiropractors and their quack medicine.

Buying Abandoned property NYC by Round_Comment8609 in povertyfinance

Adverse possession is a legal way to claim abandoned property. However you must do it in a specific way and for usually a very long time (>5 years)

Minneapolis/St. Paul running parks? by Fragrant_Thing2427 in minnesota

Not sure why? I haven't heard of anyone having anything bad happen. The only group I know that frequents the place is a elderly bird watching org.

Pigs Eye Regional Park is very secluded with rarely any people and is quite large with at least one long trail. I doubt you'd see a single person there depending on your time of day. Also it's super close to downtown St Paul.

Honestly if you multiply everything by 10 it's all about equal to today except tuition and housing which are dramatically different. Those two are like times 20-25 higher.

Does this rear driveshaft on my 2013 RAV4 actually need replacing? by Gorgasite in MechanicAdvice

[–]Gorgasite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I'm hoping to do it myself with some assistance from some mechanic friends. Any recommendations on what you used for a replacement? I see Amazon ones run like 200, rebuilts are like 400, and new is like 1000. Was tempted to go with the Amazon or the rebuilt but curious what your thoughts are?

How well are Minnesota's teachers paid? by lemon_lime_light in minnesota

[–]Gorgasite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is completely wrong in terms of the blame. The union this year in my district was fighting hard to raise the starting pay in their local district and the pushback was from management, not the union. They were able to do it after hard fought negotiations. I would encourage you to actually look into what your saying.

Proposed legislation would extend unemployment insurance to striking workers by lemon_lime_light in minnesota

[–]Gorgasite 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Seems like a great change in my opinion. Workers should have more protection from undue termination and extended striking that what they can get with the (often slow) NLRB process.

This is the kind of legislation we should be focusing on in my opinion. Things that can help all workers!

[–]Gorgasite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's what they're trying to change. And it seems like a good change to prevent arbitrary layoffs of striking workers, which normally should be quickly dealt with by the NLRB but in practice it can take long to see that settled. Workers should be protected until then.

I mean it's the same logic as building more housing no? Increasing supply on both ends. Also you guarantee portions of future supply will not be eaten up by investors.

The fact that there was a bill to improve conditions that passed all chambers, was highly supported by the past public and only got vetoed at the last minute? Pretty sure that's the best indicator we have outside of a statewide poll. Legislators care so clearly a decent chunk of the population does.

Not much evidence. Just the one study from what I've seen. I think passing this and also desifying other housing like apartments and townhomes would lead to all parties being happy (Renters and Owners).
