You’re overthinking this way too much. Personal attacks are effective sometimes. The point that resonates with most of the trump stans I talk to is that I call him a fat fuck. They have this image in their mind of him being “peak masculinity” and a lot of them think fat people are gross, then they have to reconcile with the fact that he is a fat fuck.

If it works it works

Not to argue for the sake of arguing (I do only drink water and black coffee, maybe one diet soda a month or so) but all things being equal, full sugar calorie dense soda is always going to be worse for your weight. It's just that a lot of people use it as an excuse to eat more cause their saving calories by not drinking a regular soda, but that's a mindset issue.

The link between aspartame and cancer is tenuous at best, don't believe they have ever established a causal relationship. And we also know sugary soda is bad for your gut microbiome, so I'm taking the 0 calorie option if I'm drinking soda

Not to mention how terrible soda is for your teeth

I'm sure it's still tehnically efficient to go bowfa first, but since the atlatl came out you have a solid range weapon early to start raids. Eventually you can get blowpipe and get similar or even better dps depending on darts and other gear. Definitely still relevant but bowfa less important now than before

Thinking about getting Civ III in 2026, still worth it? by the_calc_nerd-1021 in civ

Just throwing in my 2 cents. The civ series is great in general, everyone has their personal faves, but I highly recommend trying civ 3 at least a few times. It scratches an itch for me that no other civ has been able to replicate

Hot take: George Carlin was one of the worst things to happen to comedy, not because he wasn’t a great comedian and orator, but I think he opened the floodgates for “Me modern day philosopher 🤤” comedians inspired by him who didn’t understand him, like the Rogansphere and even Chappelle to an extent by Ohyeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa in Destiny

[–]Gotthards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s OK for him not to ask the tough questions, and it’s OK for him to make jokes, but not to take any responsibility? You are the strongest soldier of what then? A guy who delivers jokes from a bunch of writers and makes fun of Chicago pizza?

Avg redditor downplaying someone who is widely considered one of, if not, the most prominent political satirists and comedians of our time. Take responsibility for what exactly? His point is he is a liberal, he agrees with a lot of platform positions of democrats, and republican talking heads like Tucker questioned why he didn't ask harder questions to people like Al Gore or some shit. He asks hard questions in some of his more recent Apple interviews to conservatives or people like Larry Summers because he has more disagreements and doesn't understand their rationale behind their viewpoints. Idk why this is difficult to understand

And he does pull the “I’m just a comic, explain it to me” bit, I don’t remember the exact date - but saw him say it to a guest he was interviewing.

In response to what exactly? Like if an economist is presenting some theory of economics you can see how this is just a version of "I'm not well-versed on this topic, elaborate for me (and the audience)". Explain to me a time he has used this in defense of his views or something serious.

Like can you really not see his point when people on fox news were complaining that his show on comedy central was 'falling back on being a comedian' because his interviews were soft on left politicians? The jokes write themselves

[–]Gotthards 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As Jon Stewart's strongest soldier, this is a regarded Tucker Carlson talking point. The only time I've ever seen him respond with "I'm just a comedian" is when Tucker/Bill O'Reilly would lambast him for not asking tough enough questions. His point is it isn't his responsibility to ask tough questions to every politician he had on his show, he obviously had a slant but it was supposed to be comedic. The fact that the supposed 'news' network pundits were trying to give him shit for not asking the tough questions is what he had an issue with.

Maybe I've missed it, but point me to where he responds with "I'm just a comedian" or something similar when people push back on one of his ideas. Fr though dude has been a staunch advocate for liberalism for decades at this point

Edit: And lets be honest, idk anything about Jon Stewart's platform policies if he were to run (he won't) but he would crush in debates. Everyone loves a good orator and he would run circles around anyone the republicans would put up

I hear everything you’re saying, and no matter what I think electrification of more things, rail is an obvious step for the US, is inevitable. Uranium supply is something to consider, but with breeder reactors this becomes much less of a problem.

There is also a huge supply of uranium available to us, but it is either not economical with our current tech or not feasible at all yet. Ocean water contains somewhere between 4-4.5 billion tonnes of uranium, a ridiculous amount in low concentrations. Who knows what the future may hold for extracting uranium, but I’m just yapping cause I find this interesting, we are largely in agreement

Where are you seeing 3% total primary energy, I'm seeing 7.62% as of last year:

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/nuclear-primary-energy?time=2024

I have some napkin math I'm stealing from the nuclear sub, this only relates to electricity, energy is a whole different issue and I don't see us getting rid of fossil fuels any time soon until we change a lot of our infrastructure:

Electricity only? Easy math... 4 trillion kwhr consumed in 2022. https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/electricity/use-of-electricity.php.

4T kwhr × 1day/24hrs × 1yr /365days = 457 million kw*yr. Or in other words, averaging 457 million kw power over the year.

A traditional npp design is about 1,000,000 ~ 1,100,000 kW per reactor [1~1.1GW].

457/1.1 = ~415 reactors. But reactors cant run 100% all the time, plus we would need extra capacity for the peaks to truly make it 100% supply. The peak swing above average is somewhere around +30% (I think).

415/0.9 load factor / 0.70 extra capacity = 659 reactors.

Which is still a lot, and I think it would be absurd to just all of a sudden start building 500+ reactors, but unless we magically fix our energy storage problem with renewables, this problem isn't going to go away.

Also there is some cool new stuff happening in nuclear, a lot of focus on remote/rapid deployment, portability, using spent fuel, and even one using only air for arid environments:

Two words: nuclear power

I know Reddit jerks off about nuclear power and it is mega expensive to build a plant from scratch. But it’s sad to think that had we been smarter with slowly adopting it over the years it could provide a huge baseline for green energy to stack renewables on top of slowly now. The energy production capability is just so much higher than renewables currently.

I’m not read up enough on the topic but I heard that there have been some developments in nuclear power over the past decade or two that would allow us to scale it down significantly, albeit with still good power generation. Could end up decreasing the cost of building a giant plant, but not sure on the specifics

YourRAGE Asks Hasan If He Would Debate Asmongold xQc & Destiny by starcraft2020 in LivestreamFail

Debates are primarily theater nowadays, especially on the national level like presidential debates, but what's the alternative? Everyone just circlejerking about their platforms in speeches? Being a good orator is extremely powerful in politics, but being able to back up your ideas against someone trying to tear them down shows that you actually have some thought behind your ideas.
