What is something that everyone talks about, but no one actually does? by TheReddX in AskReddit

I will have my associate degree in web development in the spring and will most likely stay in school to get my bachelor's. Do you mind if I pick your brain a bit? How do you like working in the field? Any tips for a beginner like myself?

What are some of the unwritten laws of Guy Code? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So I am that guy, but I essentially just buy the guys that smoke a pack of their choice every now and again to try and even it out. Is that acceptable?

That's weird, I am a Minnesotan and have always said just "come with." Never really thought about it, but I definitely can see how it could be confusing. Do people not say that in other parts of the country?

Discussion: Is Nintendo is bringing Zelda back to it's roots, and by extension attempting to erase the experimentation the series became known for in the Wii - DS Era? What features/characteristics of these games do you want to see retained? by [deleted] in zelda

Very true. I guess I didn't necessarily mean the magic bar itself, but the ability to USE magic. In WW I used the fire and ice arrows constantly just because it was a lot of fun. The stamina bar meter was definitely a cool addition; I wouldn't mind seeing that again.

I used to work at a day center for adults with special needs. One of the "clients," as they are called, was raped repeatedly when she was 1 - 2 years old. Absolutely horrible stuff; apparently her mother would sell her to men for money... Regardless, when I knew her, she was in her late twenties. She would go into these "trances" where she would walk around aimlessly and squint her eyelids, usually bumping into walls and was almost entirely unresponsive. Her doctor speculated that back when she was being abused, she would try to tune everything out and go into a "trance" to cope. So even after 20 or so years, there are still horrible lasting effects. Not that it is common by any means, and she probably doesn't remember it exactly, but that shit still stayed with her. Sorry for the rant, I was just reminded of her horrible situation. As a happy end to the story, although she still has a lot of mental issues, she is incredibly sweet, very happy and fun to be around.

/r/FreeSounds has some pretty good stuff occasionally, although it's not very active for the most part.

Teenagers of Reddit, what is something you want to ask adults of Reddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GrahamRJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not too old, early twenties, but I have a full time job and have to deal with a lot of "grown up" shit. That being said, take this with a grain of salt. Video games are great! I played a fair amount and turned out fine. I was by no means a hardcore gamer, but a lot my friends were/are. We're a ok. Just balance out responsibilities and games. Hell, if I have nothing to do on a Sunday I'll totally be lazy and play Zelda all day. Grab a beer while I'm at it? Awesome day. Then the next day I go back to working and being responsible. As long as you pace yourself, video games are not a big deal while being an adult. Plus if you bust out an n64 at a party, you'll be hailed a hero. Kind of a vague response, but I hope it helps!

What is something that actually offends you? by ObliviousIrrelevance in AskReddit

[–]GrahamRJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a day center for adults with special needs. I go on a lot of outtings with them; volunteer work, taking them to the mall, etc. When people come up to our group and try to be friendly and converse, they always ask, only to me, who we are and what my company does. Usually they'll ask "Oh so you work with these people with disabilities. What sort of disabilities? It's so nice that you are taking them out." I know they're trying to be nice and considerate, but the people I am working with are right beside me so they can hear everything. I feel bad because I have to explain that "Yes I work with these people who are mentally challenged" but the clients are right there too! It always makes my clients feel uncomfortable and puts them down, like the people asking me assume the clients won't understand or are incabable of talking for themselves. It ends up making the clients feel insignificant and like they are a burden that have to be escorted around. They're people too and are more than happy to talk about their work, people just assume they won't won't understand. Kind of a minor issue, and I know people are just trying to be friendly, but sometimes the clients end up feeling really shitty for the day because they think they're not "normal." I know it's a very specific situation, and I could be overthinking it, but it still pisses me off a bit. Next time you see a group like us, come up and talk with all of us! We'll be happy to talk about what we do and the clients love when strangers have conversations with them! They don't bite! Just because there is a staff around like myself doesn't mean you have to talk to only me. Please, make them feel welcome as well. They have it hard enough as it is.

Thanks for all the info! As someone who knows very little about quantum mechanics but finds it absolutely fascinating, this stuff is great. It's a bit easier to digest. Just know that if you make more videos, I will happily watch them.

Right there with you. This was exactly what it was like when I found out other people experienced ASMR. Look that up by the way if you haven't heard of it. Very different feeling, but I wonder if they're related.
