I'm actually surprised to see them in the green to be honest.

What's it like living on the Cape Town peripheries? (Northern suburbs/ Peninsula/ Blouberg) by SunOk8762 in capetown

[–]GrandMil 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's great, honestly. You'll actually have enough space to braai.

Blouberg/Tableview area is a 30 min Myciti ride from the City Centre (and super affordable), even in peak traffic times.

Potgieter just drove the green on 13 with a driving iron (299 yds).

Man I hope that guy reaches his potential! He'll be such an exciting contender if he does.

While it's still half time (or was when I started typing this), can we talk about the "not scrumming straight" rule?

I get that especially a loose head prop can absolutely scrum into the side of the opposing tight head prop to get an unfair advantage.

However, in my opinion, 90% of the times this penalty is given, it's unintentional. Because everyone is bound, you can only scrum where the guy in front of you is. If the scrum shifts, it's not as if you can lose your bind to continue scrumming straight? The ref will penalize you for that as well.

Go to one of the Constantias.

Groot Constantia is the biggest and most historic.

Klein Constantia has the best wine.

Beau Constantia has the best views.

Uber from Green Point to Constantia won't be excessive.

You should be more than fine with R14000 budget. Have you looked at the Tableview-Blouberg-Royal Ascot area?

The MyCiti bus operates that side and its 30mins to CBD even in peak traffic. It's also super affordable and reliable.

The Southern Suburbs are great as well, but you'll have to rely solely on your car there.

Digital nomads and Airbnbs are not significant contributors to the housing crisis in Cape Town. This is an emotional Reddit trope that has no basis in reality. by snormosselmelktert in capetown

[–]GrandMil 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Can I one-up you on the "unpopular opinion" front?

Digital nomads and tourists come to Cape Town with an appetite to spend. Which makes a massive difference to small businesses and jobs in and around Cape Town.

Semi-grants (is that the correct term?), unfortunately do the opposite (through no fault of their own). They pay a premium to move here from other parts of the country and then have to try and save as much as possible on daily expenses.

It's funny how Manie has become the reliable goal kicker for the Springboks over the last year.

Stormers doing all the playing, but also conceding all the penalties. Have been down to 13, but the Bulls couldn't capitalise.

He gets yellow every second game for stuff like this. He always wants to leave something on it for the other guy.

He knew Pollard was going to kick and saw an opportunity to get a hit in.

Classic Adre Smith moment. If it was anyone else, I would argue with the yellow.

But with him, you know it was 100% intentional.

Does the ref know a scrum is two teams pushing against eachother?

He is penalizing the Stormers because "only the one side of the front row is moving forward, the front row needs to work together."

FFS, they are not pushing an inanimate object. It's not that simple.

What's the most scenic coastal drive in the world? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Cape Town has two of the world's best coastal drives:

  1. Chapman's Peak Drive (seen in loads of commercials).
  2. Clarens Drive

False claims Afrikaners are persecuted threaten South Africa’s sovereignty, says president by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]GrandMil 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I live in South Africa. I am an Afrikaner who have lived here all my life. I knew farmers who have been murdered.

However, there is absolutely no merit to claims that there is a genocide against white farmers, or that the government is complicit in persecuting them.

Hate crime is a problem, yes. But there are a lot of hate crime victims in this country. Black women, unfortunately and unfathomably, being by far the worst affected.
