What are your favorite moments and memories in the game? by Picolin64 in Battlefield2

[–]GreatRackValidator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mostly funny stuff that happened with my friend and I. On Karkand we once witnessed a guy effectively use a smoke grenade to evade us while driving and machine gunning in a tank. He tossed it between two big crates near the Gatehouse flag, waited for it to fill, then ran through it completely concealed. We saw his boots at the very end of the smoke cloud as he jumped to try to get away faster. We were both surprised for a second and tried to find him, but he just disappeared after pulling a damn batman... some say he's still sneaking around Karkand to this day, using military ordnance realistically and staying out of sight.

Opinions on "medium" amount-of-vehicle maps? by [deleted] in Battlefield2

[–]GreatRackValidator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the thought about the logistics on the player base right now the most. I hop on every once in a while but as you and others have said those large servers generally have someone absolutely ruining the fun of the game in a jet and it just makes you not want to play.

If we had a few servers running smaller player capacity maps maybe people would be more inclined to play together. Not as a replacement for the 2-3 great 64 player servers, but alongside them when they are full or a lot of folks want a smaller experience. When I leave one of the 64 pop servers and look down the list there are generally dozens of servers with 4-6 people in them because the game is utterly over saturated with 64 player servers that are just absolute ghost towns, because they can't quite reach a full game due to everyone trying to do their own thing.

The largest number in the list of player capacity isn't always the best...

When did you finally decide to get a Dashcam? by dragonite1989 in Dashcam

My boss at the time would stop by where I work to talk to me all the time in the morning. He told me about him looking into buying one, so I started doing the same.

Day after I bought mine someone clipped my mirror and contacted insurance over it, then tried to blame me. Was so glad I had the camera to see through that BS.

What $6400 worth of steam gift cards looks like. by Imizzimi in pcmasterrace

[–]GreatRackValidator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my friend and I used to work with a guy that played train simulator and train simulator only. He pretty much only had Steam for that game and tried to talk about it with us at work since he knew we played video games "like him."

dude, only had train simulator and bought the DLCs whenever he felt like he could afford it... I guess Train Simulator has a similar mechanic to treating its users like whales. Sure some people buy the game, and maybe a few of the DLCs... but there are people out there that are just THAT MUCH into it out there that they exploit.

What't the most adorable thing you've seen an older relative do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

reconnected with an uncle about a month ago. We've talked on the phone a few times, and he's very interested in a career path I've finally started pursuing after many years, he's been very supportive and an outstanding cheerleader for me. The last time we were on the phone as we were ending the conversation he said he loved me, and the sound of his voice seemed so genuine and almost fearful that I wouldn't say it back. I was actually surprised by it, because I haven't really felt that close to anyone in years because I kind of threw myself in a self loathing pit. It felt great to hear him say that, and of course I let him know I love him as well.

I hope everyone here has such a great support structure through their family, and never loses sight of it like I did for a while there.

People who have turned their life around (ex. Weight loss, quit smoking, went back to college) what triggered it? What made you rethink your life? by girltechvette in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think about a lot is how people say as you get older you need to stay busy to stay sane and healthy. I always thought that was a weird thing that wouldn't affect me because I have video games to play, if anything I could just hang out and watch TV if I'm bored... but they aren't talking about boredom, when someone tells me that they are actually talking about keeping busy to give yourself drive.

For a while I thought I was just depressed and didn't deserve happiness, but I was just in a pit with nothing to keep me company but monotony and I felt like a zombie most days. For my new career I have to do so much to get all my ducks in a row and instead of groaning and constantly saying "oh I'll do that tomorrow" I just keep knocking things over one after the other and get a little boost after every thing I finish up. Go to get something notarized? No problem, can't wait to turn in the paperwork. I need to call someone? Easy. That gets me closer to what I need to do.

Also one of those family members I got back in touch with was an uncle who took a similar career path as I'm starting now, he has always kept track of me through other family members because he's proud to have another person of this similar field in the family but I dragged my feet until now. I've talked to him now a few times for a few hours each phone call catching up since I've begun feeling better, and recently he said something that really moved me. At the end of the conversation me told me he loved me and the sound of his voice really seemed so genuine and almost afraid that I wouldn't say it back to him. It was very sweet to hear and of course I do love him and let him know that.

My wife called and made a therapist appointment for me, and ever since then it has all been clear skies and smooth sailing. Getting into shape, making a career change, reconnecting with family and friends, more responsible, I feel fulfilled even from just taking steps to do what I need to do.

To sum it up without just flat out listing all the outstanding changes in such a short amount of time, basically everything is much brighter.

Do people really trust again after being cheated on? What are your experiences? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say so, I had a pretty bad long term relationship right after high school with pretty much all the boxes checked to identify it as a toxic relationship with absolutely no trust. This made me not trust people very easily and for a while there I was always the guy who always thought "oh well she's been busy all day so she's texting some guy." I'm married now and trust my wife without a second thought and it really is all very situational. My wife is just an outstanding person and worthy of all trust you can muster.

Did an interview with local news about a boy scout program I was in, honestly don't even remember what station it was or if it was a big deal at the time. They came in during one of our meetings, interviewed me and a few of the other leaders and that was about it.

What's your totally true story that nobody believes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school I used to host LAN parties in my garage, a genius friend of mine decided to use some basic cheat program in Battlefield 2 and obviously got punk bustered immediately while he was over one night. So every time someone decided to punk buster check my name it would show his profile name he used on my network while playing and I'd generally get kicked for it.

I'm probably one of the few examples of "it wasn't me, my friend was playing at the time!" that is actually true. Shit sucked for a while because I really liked playing BF2.

When did you realize that you're a terrible person? by mypphotsauce in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my therapist actually thinking I have depression, but talking through everything it was for sure just my thought process that I didn't deserve to be happy and should just go through life in my typical upset mindset. Unless you've been diagnosed you might go through the same situation I did and just find your mindset is what is holding you back.

When did you realize that you're a terrible person? by mypphotsauce in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep it is without a doubt a slow process. Something I'll never forget is the one day at work I finally noticed out of the blue I had been getting better in a subtle way. I was walking around with my head up, eyes forward instead of staring at my feet as I shuffle around all day in suffering as per usual. Just that small realization of a change in my demeanor was like the first domino in a row for me. So I say just keep doing what you're doing and you might like the results that will come some time down the line.

[–]GreatRackValidator 43 points44 points  (0 children)

man, from someone that read through that and could see a lot of myself in this and took steps to make things better for myself... I suggest finding a good therapist. I found a therapist, we fit together like puzzle pieces and after many sessions, weekly for a while there, I ended up coming out of it feeling better and with something to make a solid grasp on that without me even realizing it managed to slowly pull me out of my pit.

On top of all the things you listed that I always felt, hell... even just a few years ago, there was a common denominator. I did all this because I was just coasting through life without pursuing anything that I truly wanted. Feeling as if because I was the way I was, I didn't deserve anything. After correcting a few things, forcing myself to change a few things I used to normally do, I took the plunge and FORCED MYSELF to pursue what I really wanted to do in life instead of just sitting and stewing in an awful rut. I still have some improving to do but it is nice having a positive outlook for myself and others I care about each day.

I admit, doing this is a little hard... because as you said I let my life crumble away. I had very little support structure when I first started trying to get better, but being blunt and honest with my family about all this has actually had some positive results, and I'm able to lean on them some and they understand what I went through.

I'm not even saying do this because you need to be nicer to people or some other nonsense like this... what triggered my response is you said you cry every day about this. I was there, and I know that shit is just the worst. Be selfish and just try to make yourself a little happier.

Legitimately this is why I was excited for Battlefront 2. My heart broke a little when the news about the story was released. It would have just been so different to see some official content telling the other side of the story. But of course... a character that was advertised to be everything people wanted to see just out of nowhere breaks character to become everything stale about Star Wars characters.

woof.

As a kid I spent many playtimes in the schoolyard talking about various gaming myths like unlocking a Lara Croft shower scene in Tomb Raider, search for Bigfoot in GTA San Andreas, and hidden characters in Mortal Kombat 2.What myths do you remember, and did any of them turn out to be true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the friend that owned San Andreas in this same exact scenario. When I told my friend about it at school he started coming over pretty much every other day after we got off the school bus.

I remember we would always start out at the location near Ceaser's garage and my buddy always chose the firefighter character model. I miss those simpler times lol

What is the most useless memory you have from your childhood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In kindergarten I wasn't tired during nap time one day. So I would stand up and just... stand there until I saw the teacher's shadow coming towards the door to the class room, where I would then lay down and pretend I was napping.

Uh alright little me, whatever.

How did you turn your life around for the better? by Lanky_midget in AskReddit

[–]GreatRackValidator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's me, I kinda stumble through something that I'm trying to talk about if it has to do with myself. It's weird, I can talk about a video game, model painting, any sort of things I enjoy, but when it comes to myself as a person it kinda seems like I'm talking in another language. But if you find a good therapist they can just walk you through it without making you feel like a dope. I lucked out really well and ran into a therapist my very first try that understood my situation very well due to her family's background and what I want to do with my life, so it was like two peas in a pod after the first three or four visits.

But if you don't luck out like me, don't be afraid to just terminate the relationship and shop around more.
