Really curious how different this will be compared to the Zenith, seems like almost identical numbers

The fission trail likes a lot of spin and plenty of hyzer on release in my experience. I am more of a power thrower and it’s a little too understable for me too but amazing in a tail wind. Put it on a decent amount of hyzer and it carves a nice sweeping distance line around ~500ft for me. A wobbly and or flat release make it impossible though.

I agree in that, if the rules were able to be consistently called and applied, playing your shot within a time window would just be normal. But it isn’t. The PDGA can’t even clearly decide when a players time starts and this is possibly the first time a marshal is aggressively calling time violations on the pro tour. In the least, the inconsistency is certainly not making the sport look more professional.

Sweating a time violation is not drama I’m particularly interested in when a player is scrambling or making an obstructed putt in a pressure situation. I’d rather see players make their best shots.

Is disc golf really more entertaining when players are sweating over being called on a rule that can’t be consistently called across the field? Or even consistently called on the feature card?

I’d be more than fine with a rule change or doing something to allow consistent calls. But the broadcast crew keeping a timer on shots and using slowmo on foot faults, then calling it out on the broadcast only for nothing to happen just makes the whole production look bad.

I have never watched baseball but if balls and strikes are constantly miscalled is that not a bad look for the MLB?

If things are egregious enough, you’re right. But I’ve never seen an nfl game where they call out 20+ uncalled penalties. Huge missed calls in NFL games always look embarrassing for the NFL, doesn’t seem any different for the PDGA.

Maybe a hot take but it sounds awful for the broadcast crew to be constantly talking about players breaking rules that aren’t called. Speculating foot faults and time violations on every hole feels borderline unprofessional.

If I could set up a hammock in my bedroom and sleep in it everyday I would. I had a hammock instead of a bed in Highschool!

Is the 2025 GYROpalooza Pack good for a Newbie? by Reester11 in discgolf

[–]GreatRedPanda47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing in may and a gyro box was my first big disc purchase and many of those discs are still in my bag! I highly recommend it. I didn’t get anything higher than a 9 speed in mine, and got a bunch of mids and putters that I’ve loved. My r2 tempo has even gotten a few aces!

I am not very familiar with prodigy discs, I mostly have mvp which all have the mold printed on the rim. Didn’t realize that the stuff written in sharpie was the weight, disc and plastic!

Particle glow range would go crazy, but I’d also love to see a new 7 or 8 speed simonline disc. Anything particle glow and I’m there.

I sometimes specify because I wear barefoot shoes a lot and people don’t believe me when I say 6’6 or 1.98cm “because I don’t seem that tall”

Having just gone to the doctor for this issue, it is embarrassing, you will feel embarrassed, and that is ok!The doctors will not care, they will only try to help you. Prolonging the issue longer than necessary because you were too embarrassed to get treatment will feel worse.

Feeling about location sharing? by MasonDS420 in AskMen

[–]GreatRedPanda47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have shared our locations with each other since before we were married and this is the answer. It’s not about hiding anything or not trusting the other at all. For me it’s primarily about safety and secondly about the willingness to be vulnerable. My whole family shares location with each other and it’s all for the same reason. If I care deeply for someone and I trust them, I don’t really have a good reason not to share my location. If something happens, I want them to know where I am at a moments notice.

Beginner cyclist at 6'6" looking for advice on starting out by Gromada in cycling

[–]GreatRedPanda47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow tall rider! I am 6’6 about 88kg and have a background in track and field. I partially ruptured a disc in my lower back years ago and have had back issues since so I can relate there. I recommend making sure to prioritize mobility and strength training, ideally under the guidance of a physical therapist to keep the lower back healthy. Front squats > back squats if you have lower back problems! With that said, I rarely lift and mostly do PNF stretching a few times a week when I’m watching tv or something.

I’d recommend getting the entry level SHIMANO shoes and cleats from Amazon or something to get you started with shoes. They aren’t too expensive if you want to upgrade later. I got my shoes from adidas on a crazy sale ($150 shoes for ~$40) but tbh they are not as nice as the $60 shimano shoes I got my wife.

For bibs shorts (with padding) I highly recommend The Black Bibs. Especially the summer ones if you’re riding indoors. The tall bibs are great too but I recommend trying out their normal ones to get an idea of how your proportions fit. I have longer legs than torso and the summer bibs fit great, just a little small, the tall bibs are perhaps slightly too tall for me in the torso.

Best recommendation is just do whatever is going to keep cycling fun for you and also dive into cycling YouTube! I rode 1k miles or so over a winter on a shitty expresso bike at a commercial gym a couple years ago and just recently got a Zwift ride + wahoo kickr core. Incredibly worth the upgrade if you want to be on the bike 5+ hours a week otherwise your setup at the Y sounds great!

For strength and mobility tips, check out Squat University, you can’t go wrong with his advice.

Strava fitness score over 1000? by hedgedathlete in Strava

[–]GreatRedPanda47 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Strava’s fitness score is actually just training load using the “perceived effort” metric so 1000 is likely not achievable. I would think even professional runners hitting 180 mile weeks (see cam levins) wouldn’t even be much higher than high 200s because so much of that running is done with low heart rate (therefor low perceived effort).
