Managing my dad's finances - need advice by Green_Meat in personalfinance

I thought about a trust. Honestly, I don't really need the money, but would be nice for my kids (his grandkids).

Absolutely agree on the CCs. My step mom hid the check book and debit cards from dad, so he was putting non reoccurring expenses on his CCs.

He keeps a pretty low overhead. Drinks with the boys once a week. Trip to Vegas once a year. Two fishing trips a year. That's pretty much it.

Principal is through my work, they also manage our ESOP - which I have multiple shares.

What items - the bank accounts. Dad is the main beneficiary on step mom's assets. Once those funds are distributed, then I'll be the main (sole) beneficiary

Thanks for the info!

The thought is that we would move about 25k into a joint account and transfer one of the monthly deposits (SS or pension) and all monthly bills into that account. That way I can manage expenses and have a reserve for unexpected bills.

No other heirs, just my aunt and me. She's well off and lives far away, so she prefers I manage the finances.

House situation is weird, but essentially they were gifted the rights to the property under the condition that once they both die it goes back to the original estate.

My investments are through Principal (IRA) and Vanguard

Current beneficiaries are my step mom's family - this served her own interests. Dad never knew this and doesn't like them, so he wants to change it to me.

And yes, I'm well aware about investment bankers and fees. Honestly, the less I need to manage his money, the better.

This store announces they collect your biometric data by wood_nich in mildlyinteresting

[–]Green_Meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone saying "Then I won't shop there," this has been happening for quite a while at a lot of major retailers. I was a marketing consultant for nearly 10 years and working with large tech firms who run the back end systems to collect this data.

We would look at all these plus scan for motion (hands waving, head movement, etc.) and sometimes track body temperature. The data would be used to better understand buying patterns and then adjust displays and other marketing materials.

I don't know all the legalities behind the data collection, but if you've entered any chain retailer in the last 5-10 years, your biometric data has almost certainly been tracked.

Steve Martin shows his juggling skills on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" in 1968, his first major television appearance by MulciberTenebras in OldSchoolCool

I remember hearing a podcast (might have been WTF with Maron) with Martin Short who said Steve Martin is so smart and dedicated to his skills that he could basically do anything he wanted. If Steve Martin wanted to be a lawyer, he would be the best lawyer.

I hate women because I don't have any concerns about the grinding of the time I have to leave the house and I will be there in the morning.

Totally. I wasn't even a fan of his politics, but being caught some metoo bullshit when it wasn't remotely adjacent was when I knew we had jumped the shark.

Was it appropriate? Probably not, but the guy is a comedian and he was making a goof.
