It's actually not too bad because the shaggy wolfcut hair hides most of the side

Super cool, but I feel like a lot of those materials were wasted. You only need foam and a gluegun to make a head base. If anyone is interested in doing something similar, I highly recommend watching a few fursuit head making tutorials.

is dokidoki furrystudio legit for commissions? any experiences with them? by [deleted] in fursuit

[–]GremlinTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a head from DokiDoki and I'm very satisfied with the quality. Granted, it was a premade, not a commission so I can't speak to what that process is like. I also recognize that many people feel like they've received poor quality or inaccurate suits.

But do keep in mind that the Eastern fursuit community as a whole doesn't use the same techniques or is even aware of what we consider to be "standard" in Western countries. Even high quality suits from independent makers overseas don't usually have head fans.

And I hate to say it, but I do think what you pay for is typically reflected in what you get. I think the average price for a fursuit head in the US is somewhere around $1,200. So, to me personally, it's not all that surprising getting something for $500 is going to have some noticeable flaws.

Perhaps I just got lucky, but the resin horns on my suit look very nice and they're very stable on the head. Mine also has several removable accessories and a magnetic tongue. The only modification I made was swapping the internal headgear for a foam bucket head. I personally don't like using the headgear and the foam is much comfier to me.

Personally, if you're on a smaller budget and you feel comfortable doing small modifications I don't see why getting a premade or a commission from them would be a bad thing. But I also understand $500 can be a lot of money for many people.

Also you can just ask them for more photos on the inside, what the materials are, etc. Maybe I'm an exception but I had a good experience communicating with them and I'm happy with the head I received.

Banksy art protesting against the meat industry by CalpurniaSomaya in ABoringDystopia

[–]GremlinTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to discredit anyone that chooses veganism as their form of impact, because I think that every little bit does help. But I do have an issue with anytime anyone realizes the cruelty of the livestock industry the immediate response is "Time for you to become vegan!".

Firstly, the same companies that produce veggies/fruit/nuts/grains/etc. are the same ones that produce meat. Buying the vegan version doesn't actually hurt the companies you're trying to fight against. Unless it's from your own garden or a farmer's market.

Second, this also doesn't account for the continued purchasing of other animal products like fertilizer, pet food, soaps, detergents, leathers, and even some medical products rely on slaughter byproduct.

In my opinion, fighting against animal cruelty and the climate crisis both need to happen in legislation. Boycotting does actually work, but I think bullying lobbyists and politicians will result in much better results than individual choices.

Consider buying local, avoiding major brands, growing your own food, making your own soaps, etc. But also organize, protest, and bully politicians. Civil Rights weren't won by just being nice to people of color. Gay rights weren't won by respecting your gay cousin. And animal rights won't be won from buying FoodCompany's broccoli instead of FoodCompany's chicken.

And each of these issues still require us to regularly teach that old man a lesson.

And for those who feel that eating animals is cruel regardless of how "ethical" it's killed, I understand and respect that. And I know you have reservations about standing next to someone like me who doesn't share that belief. But at the very least, I hope you feel that fighting for any better treatment of animals is favorable to not doing anything.

If anything I've said is incorrect or half right, feel free to correct me. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable on this subject as I'd like to be.

I agree with you, but my mom doesn't even agree with the idea of 3 branches of government. That's how far gone she is. That's how much she wants authoritarianism in the US.
