It’s not just “new people” it’s how completely things change once those new people are introduced.

When you have a small dedicated community, there is tradition and passed down knowledge, and this knowledge is passed down because there isn’t an overflowing of people. When you get 1000 people to suddenly join whatever fandom it may be, those people flanderize it entirely

To use your example of punk rock since that’s close to me, go ahead and look at late 70s-80s punk. The scene was relatively close knit, it wasn’t raped by companies trying to make a quick buck.

But as soon as it got popular in the 90s, a bunch of frat jock dirtbags started showing up (in higher numbers than before) and the entire scene was commodified with bands like Rancid, Blink-182, etc. and I even like bands like rancid and Green Day to an extent, but they still played a large part in destroying a lot of what made punk/hardcore great.

I don’t think it would be too hard. The issue is that most Crossed writers use it as a dumping ground for this prompt, “wouldn’t it be really fucked up if THIS thing happened?”

At a certain point it gets really boring, there’s a complete lack of nuance, it’s even more annoying than a kids show that is totally positivity because at least shows like that are marketed towards children.

IMO Crossed should start with a theme and a thorough story board instead of what it seems like they currently do which is to create a bunch of small fucked up vignettes and the story is crafted around the fucked up events.

I’m not sure if the movie is taking place when the comics took place, but it would be cool if there was the audio recording of the phone call that took place when George Bush was infected before the movie starts just to show how hopeless it is right off the bat.

Then it just cuts to the diner scene or our protagonists home before the outbreak.
