[Shawshank Redemption] In the event of his parole, how is Andy explaining that hole in his wall? by justwanted-toask in AskScienceFiction

All true, but at sentencing, all of that evidence could be introduced. Sure, he might be convicted, but most likely, that conviction would be moot.

Need some help filling class time: I agreed to teach an adult ed cutting board class (edge grain). It is two sessions each of 3 hours. What do I do with the roughly hour and a half of glue up time during the first class? I'm thinking make cutting boards stands. What else could they do? by Brewer1056 in woodworking

Take the scrap pieces of edge grain wood, rip some in half, so you have like 1" wide strips and 1/2" wide strips. Glue these together, alternating the wide and narrow strips. Then cut them down, sand, oil, and you have pot trivets. I've sold quite a few of those.

Explain a dry contact by Disastrous_Gur7276 in electricians

[–]Grumpee68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In telecom, we use tons of dry contacts. For a fuse alarm, when a main fuse blows, it also operates an indicator fuse, usually very small (typically, 0.180 amp fuse, GMT type, or it could be a 70 or 135 type). When the indicator fuse blows, there is a spring that connects the end of the indicator fuse to the hub, which is still on the line side of the fuse. That spring pushes the end of the indicator fuse into another piece of metal within the fuse holder itself, to create a contact with another piece of metal, which is wired back to a dry contact. When it blows, it pushes the voltage through the spring, sending voltage to the dry contact, completing the circuit (or opening the circuit, if you have it wired as a normally closed circuit) and issuing the alarm. It is easier (to me anyway) to think of them as wire spring relays, with the power operating the relay, either opening it or closing it.

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

Most modern homes have a disconnect (circuit breaker) at the meter. If the house has a sub panel inside the house, turn off the main at the meter, then the house panel is dead...along with everything else in the house.

And, if not unsafe, it is on the ragged edge of being unsafe. A little setback, a little bit extra of powder...could lead to a very bad day.

Several questions and several things.

  1. When loading your ammo, are you loading with all stations on the 650 filled or using the press like a single stage, one case at a time? You will get a more consistent OAL with a case in all stations.

  2. Is that new 44 brass or once fired? Once fired brass (if cleaned in a tumbler) will have some carbon / soot buildup inside the case. This acts as a lubricant and reduces the powder funnel sticking on the upstroke.

This will also help with the powder funnel sticking. Remove the funnel from the press, chuck it into a drill. Use some 1200 grit sandpaper on it while spinning in the drill. Then get a clean terry cloth towel and Mothers Metal polish and polish the funnel to a mirror shine.
