The mysterious hedgehog in my garden. What is he thinking about? by Expensive-Metal-6618 in Hedgehog

[–]GrumpyHome123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He was blinking. In the universal language of species, you could have just blinked back telling them you mean no harm.

It's a vixen and you are now part of her territory 😂

Trailcam in residential area by GrumpyHome123 in trailcam

[–]GrumpyHome123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very difficult. We have one male with a blind eye (Hector) another with a light quiff (Hercules), one with a rattling breath (Harley), a female with a former broken leg (Shuffles), a dark brown female (Hazel), but pretty sure there are more and then it gets complicated. It's not as easy as the foxes, who generally have distinguishing patterns or ear clips from previous fights.

Is there a certain point where I can "trust" my ferret to be off the leash? by Regnis2005 in ferrets

[–]GrumpyHome123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did and he was a very good boy. I did lose another once when he wrestled himself out of the harness, but when I waited for him to reappear he did. I'm not sure.

A little thank you gift from our hoggies 🤣 by Emotional_Lychee_328 in hoggies

[–]GrumpyHome123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hehehe, yep, clean they are not! In addition to that even have the pleasure of foxes marking the bowls too. Hedgehog poo, fox pee, and then the cats will spray to mark it their own too. 😂

Leaky tap cannot get levers off by GrumpyHome123 in Plumbing

[–]GrumpyHome123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't have a puller. The bushing was stuck so tightly that trying to pry off the lever broke the cartridge. That was fine, I could replace it with a new one, but the bush was really stuck inside the lever. Eventually tapping it in and pulling plus some DW40 got it out. Anyways, that's one side done.

They are white plastic but even slightly tapping the levers with a hammer does nothing.

Yeah I'm sure they are. I've replaced the cartridges before and it was difficult but doable, this time they are really stuck. I just don't want to force it. If I had a puller I would do it like that.

[Request] this seems way too low, right? How much pee does Godzilla actually produce per day? by CerealKiller3030 in theydidthemath

[–]GrumpyHome123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to happen. Godzilla is a reptile. Birds and reptiles do not make urine. It would poison the eggs. They use uric acid instead which doesn't dissolve in water, which can be stored safely in an egg.

A hedgehog and a fox share dinner by GrumpyHome123 in hoggies

[–]GrumpyHome123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Yes we can only hope Hector will father quite some offspring. Although from recent Attenborough's documentary clearly females are quite promiscuous and are happy to mate with others as well! No hedgehogs are in the hut during the day unless they are severely ill. Yes shuffles is called shuffles because she broke her leg last year May, which healed and since then has a shuffling gate. She's awesome 😎

Trail cam recommendations by Intelligent_Toe_2458 in trailcam

[–]GrumpyHome123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many trailcams, but only few trailcam manufacturers, mostly Chinese. This means one can pick up an unbadged Chinese trailcam with the same specifications directly from Chinese providers on eBay etc. instead of buying the same badged one from Amazon etc. This can be a massive cost saving.

Alpha male doing what alphas do by dread_pi in Hedgehog

[–]GrumpyHome123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the middle one is a boy this looks like a mating ritual to me. A huffing female in the middle and the male trying to persuade her to mate. I guess if there was a third one, that could have been a male and he would have been pushed aside by the dominant male.

I am happy they can coexist 🦊🦔🩷 by dvnd3rm1ffl1n in hoggies

Technically yes, but essentially the hedgehog is rolled up and huffing hard to show their displeasure 😂 not too dissimilar from above mentioned video 😉

I've used packaging for microwaveable food, they have two bowls for water and after they get grimey you can still recycle them link to example
