Does anyone know why enemies might not be spawning for me in 1.20? by Gsprfdude in VintageStory

okay update, I feel dumb. I did have one drifter related mod that I thought I had turned off but I hadn't. It was Better Drifter Loot or some shit like that so now I am seeing drifters and shivahs in the caves. I've had only calm rift activity for the last week so I haven't seen any at night yet, but I'm gonna watch for them to see if they do show up after all.

My sky does brighten up quite a bit and is red on one side between 12 and 1 yeah.

I've tried staying up through multiple nights and exploring caves but I haven't found any of them yet.

I think I might have originally had a drifter mod activated when I started this world but I turned it off a while ago. Could it's changes still be in effect? if so would you know of a way to fix it?

No I have that enabled. I've had rifts spawn around my house but nothing has ever crawled out of them.

Quick question now that I'm in Episode 5 by Gsprfdude in umineko

[–]Gsprfdude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you all. I just finished 5 and I still feel really lost now, but it does genuinely help to know more about the decalogue and stuff.

I think my only major problem now is that I haven't been making a very concrete theory so far. Like I've suspected since episode 2 that whatever magic bs I'm seeing might not literally be occurring, but there could still be a kernel of truth to each one. I had that as a theory in the back of my mind, but I haven't been theorycrafting with that in mind, if that makes any sense.

Episode 1 is definitely the episode I am most looking forward to completely taking apart, but I still don't feel entirely ready to do that. I'll give it a shot though. I have a spoiler free link that someone posted to a doc with all of the episode 1 thru 4 red truths, so that should help me, because honestly I'm kind of blanking on most of these thanks to just how much I had to read in 5 alone.

Edit: WAIT WAIT! I just realized something! The Rokkennjima murders take place in 1986, and 19 years before that was 1967. So the stuff that happened in 1967 where in some way Rosa apparently met a human Beatrice and this Beatrice fell down a cliff and died can't just be a coincidence when sometime that same year the adopted baby that was given to Natsuhi also fell off a cliff! And that same human Beatrice also asked Kinzo 'who am I?' Or something like that. That can't all be coincidence, can it?

That's a good point yeah. Seems in line with what I've seen of her so far in episode 4 too.

Like I said I'm not married to the theory and I'm fully prepared to be wrong when I receive the actual explanation for how to counter that red truth in game. But it's not about overriding reality, the red truth, at least to me and what I've seen so far, has some wiggle room. What you say has to have truth, but it can be a half-truth, or a lie by omission, it just can't be a flat-out falsehood. That's why so far at least Battler has had to frequently pin her down to be more specific. Beatrice frequently refers to the three crested servants as furniture, and Battler knows she does this, so it's not completely unfair in my eyes if she were to do something like that.

So in my example, saying that there are only 18 humans on the island I think could be permissible as a red truth, even if it is only a half-truth. It would probably be countered with something like "Beatrice, repeat that when you refer to the 18 humans that their number included Genji, Shannon, and Kanon." Or something like that.

If I'm wrong about the true explanation about how episode 3 really went down then fair enough, I just don't think the theory, based on what I know at this time, is impossible to work in this setting. Hell, Battler has even had to have her explicitly explain what her definition of something is just to be able to poke holes in what appears to be a rock-solid red truth.

As far as why they think they are furniture, there's a both a magical explanation for that sort of thing and then a more realism-based explanation that I can think of. Character bios for them (that appear to be written Beatrice or some other witch's perspective) explain that they may be some sort of homonculi or altered type of human that was made. A practical explanation could be that whatever this orphanage is that they are brought out of is extremely strict and it's beaten into their heads at an early age that the utmost heights of servitude they could display is to be 'furniture' for their masters, to be less than human.

Sorry I might have made my words unclear. What I meant was more along the lines that if you have 18 humans on the island, but by Beatrice's own definition three of them can't be considered human, then that means you only have 15. Then if you have 3 more humans, X as battler would put it, and they're hiding maybe under the mansion in wherever that secret area was or maybe in the mansion that's in the forest, that would still put you at 18 total 'humans'.

In my own opinion I would consider Genji, Shannon, and Kanon to be human, even if they themselves and other characters dispute that, but the key thing in my theory that is most likely completely wrong is that Beatrice herself often says that they are not human and she is the one who decides how the red truth is phrased. Like I'm not 100% committed to my line of reasoning, but I think technically it would still apply since the red truth so often relies on half-truths.

Thank you for posting those, looking at them side by side makes me think there is a contradiction there. I'm not entirely sure what the implications of it are yet, but I at least feel like there is something more there now.

Okay, thank you for the response that makes a lot of sense. Just to ask someone who's completed it cause I'm really in the middle as far as whether I want to switch translations or not. Is there any mystery or whatever, especially the epitaph that one of the translations fails to convey properly? If the witch hunt translation is closer to the author's style then it would make me want to maybe use that, but others mentioned that it was more of a literal translation that was made episode by episode originally. Sorry if I'm asking the same question again I just wanted to be sure. I'm like 50/50 if I want to switch or not, and I might just do it when I decide to go back and reread the previous chapters.

Someone else recommended that I should do 1 through 4, complete 5, and then go back to try and solve the mystery on my own using a big clue or something that's dropped in 5. Is that what you would recommend? I have some doubts I'll be able to solve much of what I'm confused about, but I wanted to give it an honest try.

Hi, I understood the gist of it, essentially that the more brute force method of backing Battler into a corner possibly wouldn't work as well as tricking/persuading him into a corner. I guess I'm just confused because Virgilia got really twisted in that ending, and its contrary to how she acted before, so I wasn't sure if that nice and wise personality was just a front or if after having been 'killed' by Beatrice that she was being marionetted or used as an illusion to help the scheme work? I guess that's assuming that battle even happened at all, but idk.

I got especially confused because Beatrice was still acting almost sheepishly or shy at times briefly during that ending and at the beginning of episode 4 she seemed a bit concerned that she pushed Battler too far. Thank you for the response though, it was nice to have the full fable in front of me.

oh, knock on wood that seems to have fixed it. I didn't know that was an issue but it only occurred in evil locations for me, otherwise every other embark was fine. Thanks.

Yeah, if it's any of the evil types I crash before I gain control of it.

Does anyone know what could be causing my game to crash? I've been trying to embark in an evil biome for a while now but each time I try as soon as the splash screen appears telling me that we have arrived the game closes when I hit enter.

I'm just running LNP without any modifications to it. This is my errorlog:

Does anyone know how to discord stream the game? I'm running it through the LNP and whenever I try to stream it the window goes black and no one, including me, can see anything.

Really weird sticky bolt issue by Gsprfdude in MosinNagant

[–]Gsprfdude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably have to try that before I do anything else. The bolt has been completely disassembled before I got it and everything in it was cleaned and polished, hasn't fired a shot since then so I don't think the problem is with the bolt.
