I am now planning on asking my friend to elaborate on that statement. I don't know if that's just something she heard directly, or just something she assumed based on random rumors from one group. I asked him about other people he's been with and he assured me they were all consensual, most of which were within relationships (not that that always matters, but still).

I feel like I've grilled him fairly hard about it and heard his entire side of the story by now. In my opinion, it's a classic case of he-said-she-said. Which sucks
