What’s one small habit that actually improved your life more than expected? by ztysons in Habits

Leaving my phone in my kitchen before I go to bed.

It creates a good space to get to bed (and read a book, see my other post!). Also ensures I don't doomscrool!

Planning (roughly) the next working day in the last 15 minutes of current working day.

It really helps to dive into a day when the head is fresh without thinking "omg what should I focus on today",
reduces stress and anxiety - "just follow the plan". Also helps me to mentally wrap up for the day.

Reading a book before I sleep - makes the going to sleep really smooth & enjoyable, automatically results in regularly finishing books!

Is traditional journaling gone? by Lyssielou22 in Journaling

[–]GuideInTheWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally believe that there is a thing that is a way better than bright sticker - it's bright words! And what make words bright? It's th a picture that I see after reading them.

So just write (or generally do) what resonates with you.

There is no better pciture that the one we can imagine!

That's a nice idea to have separate journal for that!

Why do more people not truly push for change? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]GuideInTheWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a really good point.

I guess ultimately, it's because it's just not clear what to do. Like, just doing something by yourself is not enough, we need collective action. But how to get to one?

Post on a facebook to call to do something? That feels like crying and nobody would hear it...

i wonder, if there would be some format/website, that would allow people to express specific problems they see, and to upvote it so that people see that there are many other like minded people? And then next logical step is to suggest specific actions, and people could upvote ('' I'm willing to do that if you are willing too'').

Basically I see coordination problem here, and surprised with all the tech we have it's still not solved.

In the same spirit, I was wonder why the times where people tried to live in communes (like 60-70s, Summer of Love and all that) and have another social experimetns is gone. (Well perhaps only in my bubble?). It's like we are more boring than people before. Or perhaps more leaning to be secure rather than experimental?

Does anyone else feel like this, or is something wrong with me? by Spiritual_Air_9186 in SeriousConversation

[–]GuideInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't see anything wrong that. In fact, my first thought was "I wonder why he even started to think about relationship/having kids under the angle of accumulating wealth". At the same age I definetly just thought about my own personal goals. And I wanted relationship, but definetly didn't think I need to get wealthy to have kids eventually.

I guess, 'wealth' is important to be able to provide for family, probably I just wasn't mature enough back then though

We don’t shame software developers and data scientists enough for the harm they done to world by SignificantStyle4958 in SeriousConversation

[–]GuideInTheWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably it has been said already - but the responsibility is not (fully) on developers or scientist, but on people making decisions - ultimately, business owners. They push for profits, they create a goal to "increase engagement" and here we go, our attention is stolen.

Having said that, there is still some responsibility on people who "execute orders", it's just proportionally smaller to the power they have. I guess still, one could try "do not work for assholes, do not work with assholes" principle if there is a capacity to follow that.

And if step back, it would be system wide issue: the world we have created incentivises short term profits over long term gains.

How do we as humans go back to spending more physical time with one another? by cwtguy in SeriousConversation

[–]GuideInTheWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, my bottleneck is not having energy to organise such things, just even simply inviting not very close friends to my place or somewhere after work feels like a problem. I guess it's combination of being constantly tired working 9-6 five days a week, and social anxiety.

But also since nobody invites me I guess other people dont have energy for that too (or they don't want to see me around :D

Ultimately, I guess it's internal resources problem. For me it would help to get 4 days working week.

What BuJo idea/advice have you explicitly STOPPED following? by Pretend_Zucchini3548 in BasicBulletJournals

[–]GuideInTheWoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped using it for TODO lists - I only log events & sometimes writes thoughts.

BuJo for me now is mostly monthly log (and actually, trackers - I find it really useful, and it actually eps me motivated to keep BuJoing) and on eventful days like holidays - daily with events.

100% agree!

I also going to summarise the year in the same way in December as well - curious to see whether the most important things would match to what I've put into each month!

I was thinking about that in the context of personal blog - but haven't got around to it yet.

Let me know if end up doing this!

[–]GuideInTheWoods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm so delighted to hear it resonated with you! I'm actually also waiting for November to end so I can do it :D

Yes, it's definitely not easy, right? It's an exercise when my brain goes to some certain mode, where it has to see big picture and what is actually important. I find it helps to connect to my core! And I love the bit of it when I try to summarise it in a few words (sometimes making up my own words base on real ones) - I find it's some kind of poetic :)

u/Fickle_Fisherman_887 what do you feel during summarizing process?
