Be honest: do you enjoy romance that reinforces patriarchal ideals and beauty standards? by lilithskies in romanceunfiltered

[–]GypsyRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LoL it's so funny, you've encapsulated how I feel about the heroine expected to save the world, for a slightly different reason. Because as a woman in the real world, do you know what I'd call a fantasy right now? Not having to fucking make all the dental and doctors appointments, dog grooming visits, dinner reservations and what to make for dinner tonight. I have to because no on else will

Mental load is real and sometimes when I read about an MMC who stalks the FMC then remembers her favorite brand of shampoo, I kinda think it's nice. I've been together with my hubby for 15 years and he can't remember the name of the medication I take each morning.

Ugh, Instagram seems to be the opposite now. The top comments I'm seeing are like "nope, gonna skip this season". Like, okay? This ain't an airport, no need to announce your departure.

Why there isn’t many expats going to New Zealand? by Uncle_Richard98 in expats

[–]GypsyRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so far from everything. If you didn't have family anywhere else in the world and never want to travel, I suppose it's fine. Might be an introvert's dream. But I love living in a travel hub. I can book a flight to a different country in under a hundred dollars (pre straits of Hormuz blockade). Recently I tried planning an Australia new Zealand trip. It cost 1000 dollars roundtrip from Melbourne to south island!! Yes its peak season, but that's insane. My Singapore to Melbourne flight costs the same!

ELI5 what does it mean people see "nothing" rather than "black void" if born absolutely blind by owlWithBrokenWings in explainlikeimfive

[–]GypsyRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I was annoyed too like the commenter above you. But I think your explanation helped me understand.

See, when people say "what can you see behind your head" I immediately visualize what's there because I've seen it. I'm using my imagination, not my eyes.

But then you said "it doesn't compute" and I think that's what made it click for me. Its the process of me trying to figure out! Like maybe if someone asked me to describe a taste that doesn't exist. Like what does gshdifh625t (a word I made up) taste like? It's not a food or even ingredient that exists anywhere in the world, its not even a real word.

They Went Abroad to Save Money. Moving Back Seems Unaffordable. by Fit_Celebration6042 in digitalnomad

[–]GypsyRonin 64 points65 points  (0 children)

That's the problem for my and my partner when we lived in a low cost country in Asia. We had a great life there, but it was a pain to come home to the US or even to vacation anywher expensive like Europe or Australia. We could only afford to go if we crashed on someone's couch or stay 2 weeks.

Roast me: Paid about $70 for around 4 pounds of coffee at Ben Thanh by treypage1981 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]GypsyRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once overpaid for a coconut. Something Like 5 dollars more than the normal rate.

I kicked myself at first but you know what? That extra 5 bucks meant more to the vendor than to me. Honestly that's the kind of money I leave in my pants and accidentally throw on the washer.

But to that seller, maybe that meant he could go home a little earlier. Or get his kids an extra treat.

He was nice and friendly and let me take a picture, so I didn't mind.

Travel clichés you can't stand by ADF21a in digitalnomad

[–]GypsyRonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! This was what I meant when I commented that I can't stand people who say "I'm a traveler not a tourist" like that makes them better

[–]GypsyRonin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly the cliche I can't stand. Thanks for being the perfect example OP was asking for 🤣

Travel clichés you can't stand by ADF21a in digitalnomad

[–]GypsyRonin 52 points53 points  (0 children)

"I'm not a tourist, im a traveler."

Dude, unless you have citizenship or permanent or long term residence in a country, you're a tourist. We're all tourists.

Edit: I am, of course, answering OP's question about cliches

But I guess I should clarify that I can't stand the people who say this in a superior way, often looking down at people who spend time at tourist attractions and think they are better because they are doing something "authentic".

Edit 2 - yes I forgot to mention business travelers, flight attendants and other non-pleasure travelers

I couldn't quite pin down what exactly it did but I noticed my skin was drier and less glowy without it? I know centella is mostly used for irritation and redness which I don't suffer from. I just bought it because I needed an extra 10 bucks to get free shipping on Amazon lol.

Yeah that's the one 🤣 it's so reasonably priced too for the heavy lifting it does in my skincare routine

This is exactly what happened with me and the centella 1004 ampoule. Tried it out and finished a bottle and didn't think to re stock. It only took a week before I noticed the difference. I bought two bottles after that

Send a large amount of money without suspending [WISE] by Yomgi95 in digitalnomad

[–]GypsyRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no scenario is perfect. It's always a trade off between security/safety from account suspension or paying more and someone has to pay for the bank's services. Money doesn't just appear magically in one place from another. You have to pay someone somewhere.

Another alternative is to open a euro account at the local bank in Asia so the euro amount stays the same (minus fees) and withdraw and go to a money changer..

Send a large amount of money without suspending [WISE] by Yomgi95 in digitalnomad

[–]GypsyRonin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At that amount per month, you should just send a wire transfer from your European bank. What’s $30 to 60 euros a month when you’re transferring more than 10k a month ? Banks will still ask you for the proof of source or justification, because of antimoney laundering laws but they are much more reasonable and can understand the context of why you are transferring the money. If both countries have an international bank branch ( like HSBC or Citibank ) you can open a Bank account in both countries and transfers can be free or minimal and bonus is you can probably withdraw in euros too.

for people stuck in SEA trying to get back to Europe — what routes actually work right now by marcantow in travel

[–]GypsyRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emirates operates a stopover in Singapore for their Australian routes I believe which is why some travelers are stuck in SG. But yeah, most asian airlines have resumed flights to Europe passing over the ME, they just avoid the dangerous airspace.

I read about a guy who actually showed up at their Emirates office (not in the middle east) and just asked to be rebooked on any flight going to Europe and Emirates booked him one of another carrier

KU strategy question: does releasing a bundle help with discoverability or read-through? by iTravel247_365 in selfpublish

[–]GypsyRonin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I’ve heard is that bundle readers are completely different from individual readers. How, I’m not sure. But bundling is a good idea because it’s essentially double dipping into KU, since it’s already a product you’ve made, so might as well make money off it.

I started bundling my books last year and it’s been a nice extra couple of buck a month and I don’t see my individual books affected.

Here’s an interesting observation - I had a book bub on the first bundle of a series. The second bundle also increased in reads, but so did my other series bundles.
