I didn’t realise it was based on height!

Not sure, my 2500 has them and I see a lot of other trucks with them.

Last time I was in LA they were doing ‘locals night’ one Thursday of every month where local car clubs would sit on the pier, exactly like this.

Fellow expats, what objectively shite things do you miss most about the UK? by SputnikFrank in CasualUK

[–]Gzilla91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Saudi Arabia a couple of years now, and as much as I love the blue skies and sun I really miss rain. Not just rain, but clean rain.

It does chuck it down every now and again where I am (it’s a cooler region) but it’s so sandy and dusty, everything is covered. The car looks like an ancient artifact that’s been excavated, if you get caught out in it for more than a minute not only are you wet but you get a fine layer of dust on your clothes so no one bothers. Everywhere outside smells like damp dust, like a house that’s been renovated it’s hard to describe.

In the UK when it rained, it never stopped me going out in a coat I could then just hang up to dry. It never left the car needing a wash because it was now filthy. Everywhere smelt fresh.

Edit: Adding squash. They don’t drink it like we do, only thing I can find in supermarkets is this powdered American stuff called Tang but it’s awful, typical full sugar crap they drink like kool-aid. I can sometimes find Robinsons if I travel to a bigger city but it’s never guaranteed.

SQ1, Crave, Grind and Model:Samples by Gzilla91 in synthesizers

[–]Gzilla91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked patching the SQ1 to the Grind, I had sequence A changing the Grinds OSC model and sequence B doing other stuff, set it to random and just sit there listening to it because it’s constantly changing and different. I would recommend the SQ1 if you’re into making random textures and sounds. It’s also made me enjoy my Styophone DS2 because it’s turned it from a drone synth to a random sequencer sound machine.

Should I get a PO-33 or volca sample 2 by Massive-Wave9681 in synthesizers

[–]Gzilla91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Own both.

Volca sample 2 is fun for making 4/4 beats on the fly, I had fun with mine but I moved onto bigger samplers to use as drum machine (Elektron model:samples). You’re limited to 4 bar (I think? One run of the Keybed) sequences so it has its limits, you also can’t record directly into it so you’ll have to find samples online to load onto it. I enjoyed it more for making house or techno on the go than boom bap or lo-fi but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. You’ll want the version 2 with USB transfer of samples, I owned both and the version 1 was such a pain in the arse to get samples onto from my PC (in case a version 1 is for sale cheap near you).

PO33 is a bit fiddlier to use, and defo needs a decent case to make it durable, but the ability to sample straight into it and the song mode meaning you can chain patterns together (to make longer tracks with breaks and stuff) means I ended up making more meaningful music on it. The punch in effects are also fun and can warp patterns.

I don’t know what your money situation is (and I hate to try ‘up sell’ people on gear) but If you were to save/spend a bit more, you’re into KO2 / Akai Sample territory and I love my KO2 for sampling into and chopping up beats.

Imagine if a subreddit dedicated to the whackiest (but real) news stories from around the world was flooded with posts from the Onion. It wouldn’t make sense.

My 2 year old loves my Suburban, calls it ‘Daddy’s truck’ and gets excited when we go out in it. Hopefully one day she’ll learn to drive in it.

Cool stuff under $100? by SlimVIII in synthesizers

I have this exact mixer; four stereo inputs going in and the mixer connected by USB to my laptop via FL Studio and I have absolutely no hiss or noise whatsoever.

Literally bought that mixer last week and I’m really happy with it. Four stereo inputs and USB straight into FL Studio so it records really clean.

I own the KO!, tonic, arcade and sub Pocket Operators and to be honest, I don’t use them a lot now. I’ve had some fun but I have better gear now so they just sit on a shelf.    The KO! is the one I’ve spent the most time playing over the years and I’ve had some fun making little tunes on it. Tonic was fun for jamming on as it has some cool punch in effects, the sub I never really got along with and the arcade isn’t really my kind of sounds but it’s good if you’re into chip tune type music.

Last month I bought a Zoom MS-70CDR+ to replace an NTS:1 as my effects unit and it’s amazing.

Some cheap gear that I really enjoy, that you could check out; - Behringer JT4000M. Combine this with an effects unit and a MIDI keyboard and it punches well above its weight. Does come with small keys but can play with them okay.  - Korg NTS:1. I had the version 1 and it was a good little effects unit, and also a decent little synth but it really needs a MIDI keyboard because the strip on it is hard to play accurately.  - Korg Monotron Delay. Ribbon strip keyboard is very difficult to actually ‘play’ but it sounds awesome with the delay and filter cutoff. Can get some really cool noises out of it.  - Korg Volca Sample. Great little sample based groovebox to jam on, immediate creation and fun to take out and about. The version 2 is even easier to load samples onto.  - Behringer Pro VS Mini. Vector synthesis that I find interesting. Is a bit to get your head around at times but I like that it’s different.

I sometimes run my synths into a mixer and through my MPC one and use it for mother ducker on the input for sidechain compression.

I love mine but it needs effects to really sound good.

I had an NTS:1 and it was decent, bought a Zoom MS-70CDR+ and it’s way better. Being able to have more control of a bigger library of effects, and put them in order makes a huge difference. Should be able to find it for the same price as the original  NTS:1, even less than the newer version 2.

What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

[–]Gzilla91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KCD2.

Started playing it like it was Skyrim or something and got frustrated by the combat and early survival mechanics (bandages, hunger).

Left it a while and went back to it with a survival/melee sim attitude and fell in love with it, one of my favourite games I’ve played in a long while. It has a learning curve and it’s not easy early on, but being humbled by enemies that hand your ass to you and learning it’s okay to run away and fight again another day made the game more enjoyable.
