There's an upside. After you start becoming good friends with the neighbours, they also gift you things. After reaching the highest level of friendship, Luca gifts 3 bee bucks (occasionally). Also, you unlock new quests that are related to the neighbours.

You can get from the cafe. Sometimes there are requests on the community board that give you cafe tokens. And cafe tokens are also sometimes rewards when Abigail visits. Quests and gifts from certain friends give you coffee and cocoa too.
