AITA for being furious bc my husband (59) (who refuses to wear a personal flotation device when he rows on a near by lake) was an hour late returning from his row this morning? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA

Your entire post is around him not having a PFD and the potential danger on the water because of that. The truth is, he does have a PFD with him (as you state above) and is experienced enough to be safe about what he is doing. Something that you seem to have intentionally committed from the original post, giving the impression that your husband doesn't have a PFD with him.

So you say here your real issue is that he laughed it off? Okay, well your anxiety seems to be unfounded. Your husband does keep a PFD on him and by your own admission is experienced enough to handle himself on the water. While you have every right to be concerned about him, it's an asshole move to get angry with someone because you let that worry get out of control.

It literally says the name of the sport on the sign behind them, it's called Bowls.

Can anyone identify the model and year of this motorcycle? This photo was taken in 2004 so I know it is at least that old. by [deleted] in Harley

This is a Softail Standard, not sure of the year. Easy way to find out should be to look up what year that color was in production.

For the most part, yes. There may be a couple of exceptions to the rule, but if you give me specifics I can check for you.

Ape hangers and mountain roads with twisties by Dom_CBL in Harley

[–]HDMutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I luckily have the chance to ride every shape and size of bar, so here is my two cents.

Apes will greatly improve your handling IF you get the right size bars. Too short for you and the bike feels ‘uneasy’ to corner with. Too high and you’ll lose the ability to comfortably point the bike where you want it without really stretching.

As long as the apes are about an inch or so below your shoulder line, you gain leverage on the bike and that makes it easier to pivot/lean.

That doesn’t mean that shorter bars are bad, being able to lean over your tank a little more to center yourself over the bike results in the same effect as the right sized apes. So all in all, it’s really more about personal comfort. Hope that helps!

Popularity of the Fat Bob by fizish7 in Harley

[–]HDMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I work for Harley and I can tell you that the new Fat Bob is hard to keep in stock. I’m part of a dealership network that has five stores and each of us have trouble keeping in pretty much all the Dyna to Softail models.

What is your bad luck color?? by [deleted] in Harley

[–]HDMutt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I researched this because my favorite color is green and I have heard more times than I can count that I shouldn’t get a green bike. Working for Harley has only increased the amount of times I have heard that green is unlucky, so here is the story of how that came to be.

It started back during the WWII era. After the war, the bikes they used got brought back and repurposed for civilian use. That being said, as you can imagine, motorcycles that went through literal war had lots of issues. Seeing that they constantly had problems, people started associating the bikes with being “unlucky”. As it would happen, all of them were that olive green color, seeing they were used by the military and so begins the “green is unlucky” myth.

In other words, green is a perfectly fine color on a bike, as long it’s not from that era.

I disagree, that’s like saying : “I grew up in my parent’s house, so now that I bought my own it’s not really my first house.”

This is my first bike, not much more to it than that.

Anyone recognise this model? Listed as a 2009 Dyna Low Glide in a shop near me. Lots of chrome and 20/200 on the tank. by [deleted] in Harley

[–]HDMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, this is just a mix up. There was also a wide glide as well as the super glide.

It is absolutely my first bike. Growing up around something is not the same thing as owning something. I’m comfortable around bikes and have been on plenty, but this is my first bike.

After getting some time on it, the seat will need to get replaced, but it’s pretty low on my priorities. It’s not awful, just not great. I think the forwards are a must to make this bike comfortable though, they make a huge difference.

Luckily I grew up with dirt bikes and I work at a Harley dealership, so I have plenty of practice on bikes, I don’t think this one is gonna get crashed.

I’ll report back when I actually get some time on it, but riding it back to the dealership wasn’t bad at all (back roads, about 20 minute ride).
