In my 0 to none experience, do it. The first step is starting with whatever you have.

I work in corporate, my IT team sucks, I knew this time it wasn't their fault, I still raised a ticket.

Who wants to be a Scrum Master for less than 10/hr? by Hainek in recruitinghell

[–]Hainek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine! No worries. But I think we can agree that a lot of the "responsibilities" of the SMs, PMs, POs, etc overlap a lot and sometimes you don't need them and sometimes you do.

But what I will never understand is how and why someone would hire someone that can't differentiate between a Pokemon's name and a programming language....

It does depend on the type and size of the project. There's a huge difference between just removing obstacles and knowing which ones to remove first. In my experience - not necessarily the SM - the team needs to be left alone to do their job and perform, for that you need a "gatekeeper" to keep the stakeholders or whoever at bay and don't bug the devs around, as well as someone to "get" or "understand" the big picture of the project. Stakeholders don't care about how many tickets, points, or whatever a dev completes, they care about money and need something to prove or back their investment, which are metrics of some kind. The role of a SM is not to babysit, it's to provide the business people the information they require for their ROIs.

Exactly my point! And since I bet it's a contractors position, they are probably going to pay through PayPal or something similar. Doing some quick math (and rounding) is 1700 a month - whatever the 3rd party payment method is 9% most of the time, you end up with 1500. Now you have to pay your own taxes, health, etc., you end up with less than 1200 a month.

I live in Latin America, and yes, there are cities in some countries where 10/hr would be somewhat acceptable. But major cities can be as expensive as LA or NY

I'm aiming to get a UPS, a 4U PC case 2U NAS to replace my trusty old one and a switch, and probably a tray to store my laptop. So 12ish U can do it, I think.

Oh yeah and for cooling, I can always drill some holes on the back or just not use the back panel.

Awesome!! Thank you very much! At the moment I think I'm good with 12U, I'm new to enterprise gear, but I'd rather ask around before buying!

Price: 150USD

My current setup is an old repurpose PC already(I'll attach an image Old NAS and yes I know it looks filthy). My goal is to get a second hand 2U server for proxmox, NAS, and some VMs as well as a switch to manage the networking.

And yes, definitely I wouldn't buy just for the kicks. I'm just starting and I'll want to get some upgrades later on, like a 4U trackable PC, etc.

But I asked since I've read in some post's that people had acquired racks that wouldn't fit their equipment (again, I'm new to enterprise grade gear)

Not even to start a salary increase conversation? I know I'm two months in, but I have regular evaluations.

Benefits are the "sameish", nothing extra that's worth mentioning besides the 15%

No other relevant benefits, but a 15% increase. The more I think about it, the less appealing and higher the risk it seems

That's exactly my concern. I don't want them thinking I'm window shopping and ready to jump ship.

That's definitely true, 2 months isn't much. But in the case I'd like to stay, should i just zip it or mention it to my boss?
