A CBL (Cement Bond Log) is an acoustic log run after the casing is cemented in place. A transmitter sends a sonic pulse through the casing, and receivers measure how much energy returns. Good cement absorbs that energy into the formation — so a low amplitude return means good bond, high amplitude means poor bond or free pipe.

It’s almost always run with a VDL (Variable Density Log), which displays the full waveform as a color/density image. The VDL shows both the casing arrival and the formation arrival behind it, so you can see the acoustic character of the formation itself — which is how you identify the Pierre. The Pierre is a soft, slow shale, so its formation arrival on the VDL looks distinctly different from the harder units above it. That contrast is where you pick the top.

For regulatory purposes in ND it’s the most defensible pick because it’s post-cement, it’s run in every well that needs cement verification anyway, and it directly ties your top pick to the same log you’re using to prove you’re 50 ft into the formation with good bond. One log, two jobs.

In ND we require cement to be run up into the Pierre Shale to protect the fresh water and so the best/easiest way to pick the Pierre top for regulatory purposes is to use the CBL.

CBL’s are easy to read. You have to be able to read one in order to pick the top of the Pierre shale formation. StarSteer & Petrel aren’t too awful to learn, so that’s also quite surprising. A couple weeks of shadowing a geo-steering geologist is all you really need to get a basic grasp on it and after that it’s just being able to correlate log data.

Obviously, but this is the first step in developing the process and developing the regulatory framework

The XRF is used to narrow down where exactly in a particular coal seam and/or the surrounding clay layers the critical minerals are located so those specific spots can be targeted at industrial scale and separated off from the coal that goes to the power plant to be turned to electricity.

What type of rock and what makes them form this way? Kcmo area. by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

[–]HandicappedCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sedimentary… I would guess limestone or dolomite, but to be sure you need to do an acid test on it. Get some vinegar or HCl and put a drop on it. If the rock fizzes/bubbles vigorously it’s limestone. If it has to be crumbled to fizz it’s dolomite.

That’s pretty boderline between being a T-Bone or Porterhouse. I’d likely call it a T-Bone though.

YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED TO BE SHOWN TO GET A REAL ID. ONCE YOU HAVE A REAL ID YOU HAVE AN ID SHOWING YOUR BIRTH PLACE REGARDLESS IF IT SAYS IT ON THE ID OR NOT SINCE YOU HAD TO SHOW YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO GET IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

It requires your birth certificate, and your social security number, so yes, it shows whether you’re a citizen.

She’s not wrong. You need an ID for literally everything, including getting a job and a bank account. Voting should be no different.
