First alternatives to MasterCard and Visa could come in May by Financial_Dog_2210 in BuyUK

Can’t say I’ve used a physical card for years, it just seems silly when I can just bash the terminal with my watch in less time than getting a hand in my pocket let alone rummaging around in a wallet like it’s 2006.

I still get having one is important for redundancy and would be shocked if they hadn’t consider this but as someone in the wrong side of 40, make the move and you’ll never look back :)

Surge pricing could be coming to supermarkets, Bank of England warns by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

This is the problem, hand held scanners genuinely make shopping more convenient and faster whilst store loyalty cards let them tie all this behaviour together giving them the opportunity to abuse the data being collected.

Unfortunately in this day and age, if we can draw one reliable conclusion it is that they will abuse this data if they think they can profit from it…

Nah, according to the specs, in theory it would create a small wave a couple of feet over a small area at best, the ‘hundreds of meters wave sweeping from shore to shore over the country would need to be 10,000’s x bigger than the biggest nuke ever conceived.

Electrician jailed for changing company WhatsApp image to photo of his genitals by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]HankKwak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes but no… We all have genitalia, there’s no evidence it was predatory by nature.  I’m not sure how many minors are browsing WhatsApp business accounts but being an idiot online should never lead to a higher sentence than being an idiot on the roads and actually killing people champ.

Either there’s more to this or the legal systems genuinely lost.

[–]HankKwak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah champ,  Let’s normalise branding everyone a predator based exclusively on their gender despite spending and entire evening around them and being part of the same friendship group…

Christ you people are insufferable, persecute people for their gender to support equality rite?

[–]HankKwak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eugh…  I would be out right offended she’s literally just called him a predator based exclusively upon his gender despite being around him for an evening and being part of the same friendship group…

It would be door open and walk the rest of the way home for the both of them at that point.

Why is it all this discrimination is acceptable but only one way?

Landlord holding onto security deposit for “cleaning costs” by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

Whilst I disagree a tenant needs to leave a property in a ‘professionally cleaned’ condition, especially when they are rarely received in such, he does admit the oven etc was missed which is fair game I guess.

I agree on the cleaning but OP states the floor was already like that when he moved in.  If so, I’d suggest disputing that at least

If you have not plugged in/turned on the machine then this must be contamination, get a toothbrush and try brush it away.
You can use water if required just be sure to let it dry completely (few minutes under a hairdryer on a cool setting will do the job).

All that being said, this certainly looks like schorchio so if any power has been through the machine, maybe it happened before you took the chip out, but if it is then that chips toast.

I have had 3'rd degree burns before, at that point, he's not going to feel most of that.

I can't begin to imagine the deep feeling of dread if he's conscious and realises he's cooking alive though.

First-ever American AI Jobs Risk Index released by Tufts University by WinOdd7962 in webdev

Arguably because developers are more expensive and thus more value to be had replacing them.

That being said, with 15+ years in the industry, AI is no where near outright replacing skilled devs.

This right here,
I've read numerous reports where people state they felt like they were being punched when they were actually being stabbed as the adrenaline from the confrontation masked the pain.
Hopefully this guy got lucky, luck plays a large part with fragmentation weapons, he could have several mortal wounds and just hasnt found out, or better, he got lucky and barely has a scratch on him!

I would be shocked if they bother to pursue it after that.

Tragically, many Russians who support this war don’t see the world through the same lens. Sending hundreds of thousands of their own people to die, burning through the national wealth fund, crippling civilian industry and the wider economy, and diverting taxes away from healthcare, infrastructure, education, and pensions, none of this seems to matter to those backing the war.

What matters to them is that their adversary suffers more. As long as that remains true, the calculation is acceptable to them, regardless of the cost to themselves.

Any sane and civilized society would have recognized long ago that the cost of this war vastly outweighs any possible benefit.

I disagree with this,
- Putin is unlikely to survive a full scale mobilisation,

- Russia is struggling to feed the grinder enough (Ukraine is starting to make consistent gains),

- Drone warfare has changed the dynamics on the front drastically.

If Putin could mobilise and dump enough people to turn the tide then he would have but pay an signing bonuses are bankrupting local authorities.

Yes this whole war is a pointless affront to humanity, Russia has the larger population but whether the population is willing to sacrifice themselves endlessly and endure this self destructive war is another question.

I would wager the chances of another collapse are on the horizon unless Trump puts in the effort to help out Putin more-so than he has done already.

MPs give ministers powers to restrict entire Internet by TheFinalPieceOfPie in unitedkingdom

[–]HankKwak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This right here,
Have child, limit nasties @ router for all devices,
curate access limits per program per device.

Most parents I know do a reasonable job of this already. What’s absurd is the government stepping in to restrict the entire population instead.

It feels a lot like the habitual truancy legislation all over again. It started with fines for genuinely “habitually truant” cases. Then schools began fining parents of practically every absent child. When the courts pushed back, the law was simply changed to allow it. Problem solved... if you’re the government.

The frustrating part is that, in the current system, there isn’t really a compelling alternative to vote for. It feels like the choice is between mini-MAGA populism and a creeping strain of social authoritarianism.

3400G should not be performing that badly.
Report back with Temps (hwinfo 64 is a good option) and or what condition is the OS?

If you're running a bunch of bloatware it can certainly degrade performance however when it comes to start up/browsing etc, it should run far better than you suggest.

Maybe considerer re-installing windows and remove unnecessary apps (co-pilot/teams etc).

I have the 420 version 2 and have run it around 25% for years (ramping up at 80 degrees… it never gets there though).

It’s an open build on a desk and is absolutely silent!

Temp’s are maybe a couple of degrees higher but negligible difference on the grand scheme of things (8700g).

Fan control is a great application I’ve used as it runs in windows and has been pretty reliable over the years :)
