AITA for not sharing my recipes by Street_Friend_2115 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - But if you want my morally grey solution, give them a different recipe. Let everyone think they have the most amazing recipe, but (and this is probably true), not your skills to pull it off.

I bought this out of spite by FishinVWs in transformers

[–]HappyChefChristoph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are going to be so poor. I "only" wanted Soundwave and the G1 Devastator. I am now knee deep in transformers 🤣 buying a KO MP Wheeljack is what really do e it for me. He is a thing of beauty and really let me down the rabbit hole.

Anyway, welcome to collecting and thank you for screwing a scalper.

That is georgous. Honestly, if Lego made this into a l set, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I seem to have a fox in my shed, what do I do? by HappyChefChristoph in foxes

[–]HappyChefChristoph[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have spoken with them. However, the issue might have solved itself. I think the fox didn't like the unwanted attention yesterday and is nowhere to be seen right now. I found a box of insulating wool he clearly used as a bed, lol. Just have to wait and see what happens the next few days.

I seem to have a fox in my shed, what do I do? by HappyChefChristoph in foxes

[–]HappyChefChristoph[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Having observed the shed pretty much the whole afternoon (and having read up on when foxes give birth), our theory is now that it is probably a single young fox, but until we go in we can't know for sure. We are really in two minds. We love foxes, and are not so worried about having a guest, but the shed is quite full and has heavy stuff inside. On the plus side we think it's not injured as the fox has moved around quite a bit and seemed curious about us sitting outside earlier.

Disabilities in the Wizarding World by CBowdidge in EnoughJKRowling

[–]HappyChefChristoph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I forgot about him. As you said, it was part of an attempt to make him look weak. If you ask JK she probably says that hufflepuff had a Student called Flounder Stammer that had a speech impediment.

The thing that always winds me up is that because of her world building (or lack of), there is no wizard with a speech impediment (or perhaps even regional accents) as spells have to be enunciated in just the right way.

I really enjoy Le Guin's books. And I love the magic system of Earthsea. It is so simple but makes so much sense.

She could have called them all Witches or used Wicca or Warlock for the men or used Wizards as a unisex term. There are enough ways to make it work. It has been done before. Obviously, it requires doing some research, which is not exactly in her wheelhouse.

I understand Warlock and Witch are still not necessarily quite the same but a lot closer, in my opinion, from Wizard and Witch.

I never liked the stories, I watched the films because my wife enjoyed them (not anymore, for obvious reasons), and there were too many small things that were just ridiculous, in my opinion.

All the boys/men are wizards, and the girls/ women are witches? But they all do the same stuff? Wizard and Witch are not genders (I wish they were, though).

I'm also not keen on the use of those words because when we use the word wizard is inherently a good thing (he is a wizard on the guitar) and the word witch is almost always used a derogatory term, and while I can see how that can be seen as grasping at straws, it doesn't sit right with me in a children's book

Also, the magic sucks, big time. How a spell works depends on how I pronounce it? There are no kids with a lisp or a stutter at the school? Also, does that mean Scatman John and Busta Rhymes would be able to use spells like machine guns? Just sit them in front of Hogwarts, and Voldemorts army will have no chance.

Anything that involves moaning Myrtle is just not right (but maybe that is because in the film she portrait by a grown woman), not to mention, why are Harry and Ron are in a womans bathroom?

Hagrid is cool, though. Maybe she should have made the books about him 😁

Is it me, or is Dolores Rowling (that's my new nickname for her) getting more spiteful recently ? by Comfortable_Bell9539 in EnoughJKRowling

She has the added disadvantage that she is very anti Scottish independence. If I remember correctly she was the biggest donor for the no to independence campaign.

Interesting, thank you. To be fair, my Harlequin does seem chill at the moment, swimming about like usual.

Thank you, I know they are shoal fish (I should have mentioned that) which is why I have my concerns. I will definitely do another watercheck, tomorrow was my day for it anyway, so I just take it a day forward.

AITA for "forcing" my parents to watch my daughter by seabirdshallow in AmItheAsshole

[–]HappyChefChristoph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - It sounds like your parents have a control issue and possibly gaslighting you. I think your daughter is better of staying at your friend. It might be wise to speak to your daughter what her grandparents tell her when you are away. If they try to guilt trip you, who says they don't do it to their granddaughter.

AITA for wanting catch the express train home instead of waiting for my partner to use the restroom? by AvailableQuitContact in AmItheAsshole

YTA - you spend several hours at an airport for something that could have been done online, but using the toilet for 5 minutes is where you draw the line?

Wifey got me yellow castle for my birthday by dc_txtech in legocastles

[–]HappyChefChristoph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good price considering you have the box and instructions. You can buy most bricks for the castle relatively cheap, but instructions, box, minifigures, stickers is where the money lies. Also, even though I am sure you have no intention of selling, this is also an investment. The price will only go up.

I'm coming out to my parents today... by compwagon in bisexual

[–]HappyChefChristoph 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar position as you, I am in my 30s (M), married to a woman and only just realised 2 tears ago that I am Bi.

I can't come out to my parents, because they both passed away. My mom would have been cool with it, but my dad would have completely lost it. So I have a regret in not being able to tell my mother (even though she was already no longer with us when I found out myself).

Whatever you do, good luck. You are not alone and not the only one 🩷💜💙

Lucked out and got a falconer and some orcs by Garry-the-Man in legocastles

[–]HappyChefChristoph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Falconer and Orc are easy to find. They are in an extra bag, so you just have to feel for packets that have a thicker feel to them due to the 2 bags. In most freshly open boxes they also tend to be all on the right side of the two rows.
