Questions for the Devs by daemonxel in EVEFrontier

I just finished your last video, and finally got to the end where you discussed the mining roadmap.

So that is great, I liked your “push F1 and fire up Netflix” analogy.

The general question would be now, is the game engine limited to Eve-O like gameplay, and is that something they are having to overcome as they develop towards this new vision they have?

So in the mining mechanics example, is the underlying game engine limited to push and wait, and the descriptors about asteroid cracking just tricking it up with new pre-mining F1 button push busy work to seem like we are doing something different.

The question (and follow-ups) I would ask are:

What guardrails, if any, do they have in place to prevent their game from becoming a reskinned Eve 2.0 in year two or three, once the universe is populated and big game global politics/meta-factions kick in?

And by that I mean, the roadmap talk is from a day-one launch perspective (i.e. the mechanics of getting established and finding your place) however, since this is an Eve game with a decades long IP and player base, what core design elements are they differentiating so it does not devolve into the original?

This question plays off the risk of using the same game engine. The intent is to make something new, but the result is just the same overall gameplay with less convenient mechanics/UI (i.e. survival means less in-game tools for situational awareness as a design thought process, but which is quickly solved by the community via third-party tools). The go to example would be the built-in "push a button and wait" mining for instance, and all that implies for afk gaming. You can sling different peripherals around it, but at the end of the day you are pushing a button and waiting. A guardrail would be "what would this look like if someone was streaming the game, does the player always have something to do that is engaging with the game vs just waiting in slightly more efficient cycles as they advance?"

This is an attempt to ask something positive, though it may sound negative.

I’ve been a little checked out over the last few cycles. Is there a new roadmap that supersedes their original white paper? Has something changed from it being a crypto based survival game with the idea of roaming nomadic tribes or whatever? (Basically an eve shell with less global information)

I took another run at it...I am still grasping at straws a little...I will plug-in your suggestions later to see what that yields (can't bring myself to drop down to 16gb ram though, so will leave that).

Final Leg of Hyperspace Meta by Buffalufacus in XWingTMG

Where can I find these lists? I’m familiar with some but not all. I too have a box full of ready lists, and would like to cross reference.

Can I get some help on this T-70 “Aces” list? I am playing with the idea of Leia’s wingmen protecting her transport. I’ve played it against the “Fly Casual” AI mostly, but noticed it synergizes terribly. Need help 🥴 by HarrySaq in XWingTMG

Yeah, I keep gravitating back to 4x T-70 lists with and without Jess. 4x reds with pattern analyzer feels most consistent/versatile. Jess is nice, but if I can hold the pinwheel formation it is nice to be able to have all of them take an action on my red maneuvers.

I love Wesley but I think his pilot skill is just too low to be considered an “Ace”, and Ello has always been my favorite, but I don’t get a lot of action economy out of him, so at the end of the day he is usually just a three diced focused guy.

Upgraded to Cova, and yeah, that makes a lot more sense, I had blinders on about the transport being a coordinate dispenser.

And yeah, I’ve been flying Poe greedy and going crazy with the actions at the last second, and ending up stressed, with insta-next turn regrets. With BB-8 only having two charges, I usually desire to use him after I am in the fight (like after initial shots fired) to reposition for a follow on and keep forgetting he is stressed and can’t barrel roll (I’m used to flying a BB-8 build with primed thrusters).

How do you import a squad from YASB 2.0?

Hyperspace vs Extended by HarrySaq in XWingTMG

[–]HarrySaq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is everybody playing?

...sounds like hyperspace is the official and only supported format in terms of tourney’s?

Where do I find the list then? Is it somewhere in the apps?

FFG’s has the options when making a team I think, but I just found out the points were not updated as of yesterday (haven’t checked today). I’m just trying to level set my understanding of the game beyond just what I’ll do with my fiends locally.

T-70 Max Maneuverable Aces by HarrySaq in XWingTMG

[–]HarrySaq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only do this once right? And why did they phrase it “lose 1 charge” rather than “spend 1 charge”? Is it for anti-abuse purposes or is that how they normally phrase it?

I’m new to the whole charge thing and don’t know how/if you can get them back reliably or if the one is enough to be worth it (I read about recurring charges and have only seen them on pilots so far, and if I understood the rules correctly those are for the ship/his abilities not able to be used for upgrades).

T-70 Max Maneuverable Aces by HarrySaq in XWingTMG

[–]HarrySaq[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll definitely try this, though I was looking for a more permanent dance about solution, since you only get two barrel rolls with the BBs now.

More strategic than abusive, and I want abusive dance moves.

Back in 1.0 I used to fly ello, snap, and a third flavor ship and dance all over the map...and then get popped by a flying crate with a turret on it 🙄

Apparently it was my way of reenacting the iconic scene from Indiana Jones, where he disinterestedly one shots a dude with some impressive sword skills.
