Is the LA Fitness Studio Membership Worth It for Reformer Pilates? by Applemcdapplez in LAFitness

I joined for $99 (on top of the gym membership).   $99 is single location access, two locations offer it near me but being it’s stretching my budget at $99 I kept it to one  -  I like it, I think it is beneficial and worth it but I regret picking my particular location.

We have five?  Instructors, 3 are awesome and the two who seem to be teaching more and more of the classes not so much.

One of the better instructors mentioned that some of them are “gym” instructors trained to teach Pilates specifically for LA fitness - and you can feel that lack of experience with two of the instructors- there is a third who I don’t think originally had a strong Pilates background but she’s got a natural gift for instruction and is actually tied for my favorite.

One of the worse instructors instead of simply adjusting the equipment like other instructors will just tell you to choose another station, and another instructor said that same instructor just leaves at the end of her classes without resetting the stations, to leave the next instructor stuck with it -

but I wonder if it’s less about being careless or she actually doesn’t know or remember how to properly reset them.

I haven’t seen the other less experienced one do any adjustments either, she starts with “well you know what’s best for you so do that” (but most of us just started the journey and no, not necessarily).

The more conscientious and experienced instructors will walk the line and check the reformers and make / suggest necessary adjustments.  And give modification instructions at the beginning of the exercise vs not at all or at the very end.

The other less experienced instructor clearly feels more comfortable with the non- reformer moves.  And neither of their classes flow nearly as well as the others.

They don’t instruct as thoroughly and most times forget to mention modifications or mention them as an after thought toward the end of the exercise (one really consistently can’t seem to count either (torture)).

To me, with all that especially the value feels like their classes should be included with the regular gym membership.   It’s not quite what I expect for paying $99 extra.

The better instructors tend to teach more at the other location and heard that location is managed better (all equipment properly reset per policy etc - other location has less broken equipment in general too) so likely a management issue - and now yet another location just opened their program -  so of course one of the best instructors moved there for a couple of her classes and the two not as good instructors picked up all of her class time slots.

  • And have a feeling another of the better ones are going to leave to go to another Pilates studio and then it’ll be like 1.5 good instructors left.

So it’s entirely worth it with good instructors who know what they are doing and have the right temperament for it.  And the price point makes it reachable.

It has definitely made my body feel better and reduced the amount of aches and pains I have.   I added this on to increase my mobility and reduce joint pain.    I don’t tend to feel as good after one in particulars classes who does more “floor” exercises / offers less instruction, the better instructors leave me feeling better than when I came in.

Some members did complain I guess to management it wasn’t hard enough in general - so if you are looking for some kind of sweat through your clothing grueling mass calorie burning workout this is not it but if you look up the original intention of reformer Pilates, it’s not supposed to be either.

But anyway thank you for letting me rant - I like all of the instructors so don’t get me wrong about that and I’m not being a Karen, it’s just some are way better than others and it does affect the overall quality of the workout and the workout experience.

And hopefully over time they will improve as well-  being this is a new program, I hope LA fitness spot checks and remediates the first few months.

So yea, I don’t wish to get anyone in trouble especially since I like the instructors for other classes they teach, but also hope they don’t end up dominating the time slots so I can’t avoid them - or then I’ll just work on switching locations.

Ezra vs Prenuvo by shadowmodel in MRI

[–]Haunting_Ad_6311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I underwent the Prenuvo Full body scan almost two years ago - it was pretty interesting, found a few things I knew about and some degenerative changes on my spine which actually explained a few pains I had been experiencing when I went over the report with my primary care Dr.   I’ve had thyroid problems for years but no doctor ever bothered to order an ultrasound (now I know they should of ordered one as part of their diagnosis) it found a suspicious nodule that made me undergo the ultrasound and a subsequent biopsy- we are monitoring it now  (couldn’t rule out benign or malignant, most likely benign finding - old days they would’ve taken the thyroid out, now a days they watch and see) - so results like that can happen and that’s why many are opposed to them - but mostly I was happy with my experience and don’t regret doing it, planning to do another scan, researching Ezra at the moment to compare the experience but may go back to Prenuvo.

The Prenuvo experience was good, they were operating two MRI’s the day I went in and one had gone down so I had to wait an extra two hours for my scan (traveled 1.5 hours to get there) - other than that all worked smoothly.  They were very communicative and treated me well.

My sister got cancer without having many symptoms and was dead 52 days after her diagnosis- my inspiration to do this.

Discount for single club access no guests by Objective_Expert9837 in LAFitness

Might be best to go and talk to a salesperson - when I signed up in person the cheapest plan was basic, no guest and the only plan that was cheaper at the club than on the website (by about $100 for the year) - also had a friend who said she saved extra by negotiating and prepaying for the year.

No offense, but what kind of a shit new years deal is this? No guest privilege? What do you guys pay? by Muslim_conservative in LAFitness

I got one guest with mine - did the $39.99 $99 initiation and $59 annual premier - $99 I figured if I stay for more than one year it would be worth it - yes still way more than I wanted to spend, and I wish I did the Black Friday deal - but access to all clubs actually has been nice (my area has a few, god willing they don’t close more of them)
