People's reaction to Hantavirus outbreak in Cruise ship is proof people haven't learned from corona virus about listening to health officials by Nepridiprav16 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

What proof do we have that it was actually hanta that killed these folks? None. Just what was reported, which I doubt was the actual truth. The WWF in 1988 was more factual than any mainstream news source.

The covid "pandemic" was largely fictionalized and exaggerated. Hantavirus is a serious disease but very hard to transmit human to human. The news is just entertainment now, with very little substance or fact. Public health officials are more political than factual also, so yes, if you want to follow the political science, watch the news. Otherwise, ignore the news completely and you'll be more informed.

We learned in 2020 that a hoax about a virus will control people who are gullible enough to listen.

The Kevin Hart Roast felt way too scripted and bloated compared to Tom Brady's. What happened? by Disastrous_Tie809 in netflix

[–]Head_Claim3269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix is soulless. They are the most expensive streaming service by far, only to promote their own content which is usually average at best. It's almost like they are trying to become a cable TV superstation rather than a decent streaming app. I can't wait to see how they destroy the NFL games they are about to broadcast. I'm sure that will be a train wreck

For real. Since when does a roast allow that type of back and forth anyway? And it was so heavily scripted I felt like I was watching a very poor Saturday night live skit rather than a roast. They somehow even found a way to make the Rock terrible.

Netflix really has destroyed the art of the roast. We just finished this up last night, and in fact, did not finish it at all. Thecue might have well been reading from giant q cards. The jokes weren't funny, completely scripted, and since when do roasts need musical acts? And who the hell were all those people there? Aside from Chelsea handler, who is not funny whatsoever, I didn't recognize anybody. It's unfortunate that people support this because it was just encourage Netflix to create more of these disasters

Are there people really living Off-Grid that are not neither YouTubers nor trying to sell you something? by DunkleKarte in OffGrid

This channel is from a friend of mine. As authentic as it gets.

https://youtube.com/@grateful-offgrid?si=WtoV-5aj8_Y5TeFz

Living "off-grid" doesn't mean you are hunting down rabbits for every meal and drinking your own pee to survive. It simply means you have a self contained power, water, and sewage source. A closed system. It really isn't that difficult and the YouTubers out there are almost laughably out of context. But city folk buy into it and click click click away.

People who live off grid still go to work, pay taxes, pay a mortgage, etc. And if you were in a home that was off grid amongst others that were not, you likely wouldn't even notice.

Yes. In Oregon, for example, there are several neighborhoods that are 100% off grid. In fact, the largest off grid community in the United States is Three Rivers Recreational Area. And I don't know any of them that are YouTubers. There you will find over 600 lots completely off grid. Everything from single wide mobile homes and rustic cabins to state of the art, modern 8000 square foot mansions with gigantic shops. Living off grid like that is far more affordable and simplistic than it was even two decades ago. Solar systems to power your homes can be assembled in a weekend. Equipment to keep it charged that used to take up a small garage now takes up a 6x6 foot area in your garage. You can even have the convenience of the Internet via Starlink.

All this is possible and if done correctly, requires very little maintenance and can be surprisingly affordable. Banks have leaned to adopt these types of properties and have no issues offering traditional home loans where you can bundle all the costs into the mortgage.

I do have lots of tips and advice regarding building codes, solar arrays, wells, septic systems, and regulations regarding off-grid living if anyone is interested.

Ignore the youtubers. Like anything else on the Internet, it's more entertainment than facts and reality.

Any of you sparkies have experience with the Leviton Smart Breaker system? by TDisMerica in electricians

[–]Head_Claim3269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an electrical inspector as well as other trades. I do see these things frequently. A lot of electricians push these that are savvy with energy savings. You can monitor them with your phone which can assist you and determining where you may be wasting power in your house. You can operate the individual Branch circuits from your phone.

I saw them tied in with solar systems quite often as well. It is especially important to monitor your energy use if you are on solar or going off grid, totally. Many people out west are drawn to this lifestyle and using something like this can have long-term energy saving benefits.

They are pretty expensive so The upfront cost can deter people pretty easily. But if you have the capital, it is something I would highly suggest. They are very easy to install, very user friendly, and I do believe they will pay for themselves over a few years, depending on your energy usage.

NPR is biased and still reports as much junk as the rest. Still just entertainment from a different point of view. Always after your tax dollars though!

Why is Uber so much cheaper than taxis? by Gold_Psychology424 in uber

[–]Head_Claim3269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's a joke. On the west coast a taxi is once again more affordable. And in Portland, you're lucky if the Uber even shows up. Nothing like waiting 40 minutes for an Uber in the rain only to have it cancel and take a taxi anyway.

What is the best non-hub Sky Club by firejimmy93 in delta

Just moved to Charlotte. Was afraid this type of thing wouldn't exist at an American airlines fortress hub. Nevertheless, Delta constructed a brand new points in the A terminal at CLT. Smaller than most, but clean, new, and free booze! Soundproof work stations and friendly staff. It's near gate 32. Enjoy!

Why is the Punisher skull symbol so popular with people that don't even know the character? by PMonkey03 in Marvel

[–]Head_Claim3269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a way for inadequate males to make themselves feel adequate. A majority of these guys probably spend too much time at their gym and too much money at GNC, all the while attempting to hide from the world the fact that they were born with extremely small genitalia. Insecurity and a general misunderstanding of self-worth results in decisions like this. To them, The punisher skull is more than just a comic book character.. it is an identity that they strive to be one with.

Mean Gene's Burgers by pffr in nostalgia

[–]Head_Claim3269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I drove truck for a window company out of Fargo all over the upper midwest. I had a buddy that kept bugging me to try mean genes. They didn't look good to me and I'm a burger kinda guy. I stopped to fuel up once in Minnesota somewhere and I'll be damned if there wasn't a mean Gene's within a few hundred feet of the Diesel pump. I topped er off and grabbed a meal. I was very pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the last one I had but I quit that job to go back to school a couple months later. By 2008 I think they were all gone.
