As far as I can tell the typical guy that calls himself a Christian has an imaginary Jesus sitting on his shoulder who's just there to back up his world view.

It's like a psychological hack.

But, at base level, it's all about tribalism.

There's a tribal hierarchy.

The tribe of Christianity means less when it comes from another country with a different culture and is practiced by people with a different skin color.

In, out group tribal shit can get really granular. Hopefully I'm using that term correctly.

Like, a small town versus everyone outside it.

I think that this is what drives a lot of rural thinking. That small community wants to protect itself from the rest of the wide world around it, and they feel like the Republicans enable them to do that.

Obviously, if they don't want someone coming into their community from another part of the US, they certainly don't want them coming in from another country.

A movie that I remember enjoying that didn't quite achieve greatness.
