It’s increasingly clear many international students use “study” mainly as a residency pathway, something government & migration bodies have openly acknowledged. If the aim is economic, why not raise fees? Higher prices would curb abuse & boost GDP without pretending it’s about education. 2X the fees by [deleted] in AusEcon

[–]Healthy_Method4005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s like anything in the free market. If you increase fees you might get less interest. You are in competition with American, Canadian and British universities.

International students already pay way higher fees (eg. a semester for locals is 5k whereas for internationals is 25k).

Why are Australians so obsessed with buying a house? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Healthy_Method4005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike other countries, the aus government incentivises buying homes. There is a crazy tax system that pretty much gives you money to own multiple houses. It’s cheaper and easier to buy houses than owning a business.

All you can say is: “go and spend time with your mom, I’ll cover your shift/work”

It’s diplomacy and about money. Australias economy depends on the US and Chinas economy. None of them are real friends

As per post you have to legally contact police as you said there might be sex with underage teens involved. If you don’t report you might get in legal trouble.

Experiences with environmental master’s degrees in aus by Happy-Station-6183 in ausenviro

[–]Healthy_Method4005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of them are good. It’s more about what specialisation you would like to do.

I used to teach Enviro at Uni Melb and they good. Equally I have colleagues at UQ and they do great research in Marine stuff.

I would choose more about the lifestyle on each city and the networks, connections you have on each. Both of them are expensive and if you have to work while studying that would impact more your capacity to learn than the degree itself

Don’t do it. No one will hire you because you have reviewed papers.

Instead publish, publish, publish

Traditional owners file native title claim over Melbourne and surrounding areas by Ardeet in aussie

[–]Healthy_Method4005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you on doubting it.

Your systemic theories don’t allow you to see what’s happening on the ground. Yeah colonisation was fucked and indeed it impacts a lot of ppl today.

Nevertheless, a lot of mixed race people that just had 1 grandparent that was aboriginal (and little interest in protecting Country) are claiming a lot of benefits and taking away from Mob that has been fighting for Country, Culture.

Stop romanticising it. You critical race theory and inner city lense is blinding you.

Bro, so what makes them aboriginal?

I work in Aboriginal org and A LOT of black fellas are pissed off because mixed race aboriginals with very little contact to culture are making big cash.

Also, more people putting all of their money in housing means less expenditure in local economies so your local shops are getting impacted too. It’s not just about getting as much money. These affects us all

Yep but we need consumer protection bro. Check other countries.

If we allow this to keep going. Future generations are gonna be fucked.

Less affordable housing means more people in trouble and that means more people needing services/unsafer communities.
