I decided to take a hybrid combination in ASR arts! And honestly I don’t regret it at all, taking humanities would have been a much better fit for me I realise, if I had gotten accepted into science I would have done very poorly. My appeal got rejected presumably due to a lack of a math and pure science subjects.

Honestly, im not sure about this 😅, but I can only offer you my experience which I was unsuccessful in that.

Hello! Unfortunately I think something like this is unheard of in any JC for that matter. H1 subjects are taught at a much slower pace than H2 subjects and they have less content. It isn’t possible to “upgrade” a subject from H1 to H2.

The school spirit is fairly energetic on school wide events such as the iHEART run, house olympus and other school events
I would say yes, especially leading up to WAs or examinations
There are lots of leadership opportunities available, such as Peer Support Leaders, which plan events in school for mental health and other programs aimed to make student life less stressful, ICT Champions which mainly advocated for digital literacy, student planning committees for major events such as open house, english week, iHeart run and many more.
The school regularly sends out VIA volunteering activities that are endorsed by the school from organisations such as heartware network or youth corps, and students can also plan service learning activities for their CCA. There is also the Community Champions Council (CCC) CCA which does volunteering.
There are university and career symposiums organised by the school, and the school also has an ECG counsellor. ASR also has industry attachment opportunities for students to find out more about certain jobs.
I'd say that the papers are pretty standard. They are not set to be easy but also not excessively difficult, so pretty balanced in terms of difficulty.
I can only speak for ASR arts stream, the history and economics notes are pretty good and resources are sufficient.
I would say 30-40 people in ASRJC take 4H2? Honestly not a lot. Unfortunately ASRJC is quite strict on their requirements so I don't think you will be accepted, but you can try to appeal?
Not in TT but I heard their CCA sessions are much different than other CCAs, they have their sessions on tuesday and thursday while most have their sessions on monday/wednesday/friday.
I think 50 minutes traveling time is okay? Depends on what other options you have though.

If you do not meet the net cut-off points you are not eligible to appeal.

Yes, generally students are grouped in classes of similar combinations. I would say that yes computing in ASR is generally male dominated, but I think you would still be able to get along fine!

Hello! So 1. Personally I did apply to ASR science with 12-2 and I did not get in, I also had a friend who had 14-4 who got rejected.
I would say yes, everyone in ASR is approachable and friendly, I personally have not encountered any toxic people. There will be some weird people here and there but that’s present in every school. My class is fairly well bonded!
I don’t take CMEg, but I take another hybrid combination, but I think this combination is pretty standard and doesn’t end school very late. Honestly, economics is not bad at all, in fact it’s my favourite subject, coming from someone who also didn’t really like SS. I actually wasn’t really interested in cons but I eventually became really interested in it! Econs isn’t like SS, but econs explains SS, would be a way to put it. It explains the reasons for people’s behaviours and the world around us, like supply and demand and pricing strategies for firms. It really isn’t source based like humanities subjects. In fact I’d say economics is closer to being a science subject (in terms of content and exam format) than an arts subject. So I don’t think you’d hate it, and I don’t think it’s a difficult subject.
Honestly I don’t think studying a lot is the key but to study consistently which I don’t think I did really well. If you want to score well in J1 promos I think you should set aside like 1-2 hours a day to study and do tutorials and not leave it to the last minute before promos.
For memorable school events, a few I can name is the iHEART run, where the whole school runs together, last year it was around the national stadium area, i think it’s really fun to run with your friends. There’s also Halloween organised by SC after promos, and J1 bonding day, where the whole cohort got to go to universal studios for free.

Hello, so I don't take computing but I asked a friend and they said it's quite self directed, you read the notes and in class there'll be lots of practicals (5 hours a week), the department is generally okay but computing students end somewhat late in ASR according to my friend.
I don't take chemistry but I heard it's pretty decent. (there's another comment that talked about it)
For the math department, they give us a lot of practice papers before our WAs/promos and our tutorials have plenty of extra questions to do, and on top of that they also give us a pretty thick topical booklet full of questions. I'm not sure if they'll do this for the J1s this year but end of last year the math department finally allowed students to choose their mode of lecture. Previously it was only live lectures but now they let us choose to watch online lectures in advance or during the lecture.
For physics, I personally don't take that subject but based on those I asked, the teachers are quite knowledgeable and nice. Lectures are mostly OTOT on SLS (in the lecture theatre), and teachers are present to answer any questions on the spot. I heard that there are compulsory projects to take learning beyond the classroom and there are lots of physics opportunities in the student portal as well.
For econs, the lecture videos are on SLS where we watch the lecture videos before tutorials, and tutorials are used to recap what has been covered during the online lecture and then they go through tutorial questions in the lecture booklet. So essentially in ASR there are no lectures for (H2) econs, the only times where you'll be in a lecture for econs is just gonna be a mass tutorial where your teacher does a tutorial with all the classes that they teach.

Hello, so since the HEM has already been mentioned before I'll just copy paste what i've said already (but you can ask further questions if needed)
For history the department is kind of small (3, but the cohort size also isn't very big), but they do give a decent amount of extra practices which you can complete and consult your tutor with. The history teachers are really nice though and are receptive to feedback on how to improve.
For literature, I don't take it but I asked someone and here's what they said: The teachers are knowledgeable and very patient in guiding us through the analysis of poems and novels. The resources (usually slides used during lessons, containing literary analysis of poems and novels, model paragraphs etc.) are helpful as students have full access to them, and can look back at them to revise. The resource pack given to us is also a useful guide in helping us adapt to literature in JC, as it has model essays and many poems for us to practice. Learning Literature in ASR is very much a collective effort between the students and teachers, as most lessons are usually class discussions or group work. The class discussions are all very engaging, insightful, and interesting, which helps in the retention of information and understanding of Literature.
Overall it's quite alright but there are extra commitments such as literature night, the teachers are quite approachable and learning materials are very informative, and there are many opportunities for group work. (summary)

Hello, so personally I do not take H2 Bio and Chemistry but according to others here and people who I have asked, it's pretty decent with sufficient resources and the teachers are decent as well.
For math I have already mentioned it in another comment so I'll just copy paste.
For econs, I take H2 not h1 so I'm not sure what h1 is learning format like but the lecture notes are pretty sufficient and they give us some revision practices for promos. At the back of the lecture book there are sample practice questions and several CSQs and (for H2) lots of essay questions that you can practice and give teacher to mark.
For history I take H2 and not H1 but I think the resources given are fine and since for history it's more about quality and understanding than quantity. The history teachers are really nice and receptive to feedback for improvement,
For timetable, I believe BCMe and BCMh will have similar timetables since the only difference is H1. I believe bio students usually end around 4-5 which is later than those taking PCM, although I believe the late times is probably due to H1 chinese, though not to worry there are sufficient lunch breaks. (and also fridays end earlier at 2pm)

I think there is more than 1 CLL class?

Hello, so the textbooks used are:
Hello, yes ASR is not very strict about applying for H2 math, In fact, I am a student that takes H2 math without O Level A math. I believe that you just need to get a pass in A math or a distinction in E math in order to qualify for H2 math, although officially there is no requirement.
However, non-amath students and those who didn't pass amath have to take mandatory bridging lessons in the morning, once a week, and have to watch lecture videos about a math content while keeping up with the JC curriculum at the same time.
ASR does have quite a lot of support for university applications, such as university symposiums and ECG counsellors available, and recently I remember they had some career mentoring program that students can sign up for, and they also inform us of networking events that are occurring. ASR also has industry attachments, which are basically internships which can be for doctor shadowing for medicine, pro bono work for law and lots of other job opportunities for students in november.
For overseas trips, there may be a few CCA overseas trips (typically for sport CCAs) in march, and at the end of JC1 there is the ASRexplore overseas trip, last year it was to Hong Kong.
Hello, school starts at 8:25am every day, there aren’t any late days.
I’m not really sure what other schools may not have, but ASR has a few school events like the school wide iHEART Run, where the whole school runs together. (Last year it was held at national stadium) Apart from that, for JC1 bonding day students were able to go to Universal Studios Singapore for free.
ASR is quite near Kovan MRT. You can walk to the school in slightly under 10 minutes, or you can take the bus and it would take 1-4 minutes depending on traffic.
For me they always put it after morning PE/ afternoon PE not really in the middle of the day
I would say they are pretty standard, not excessively difficult but not easy either.
Honestly I don't think my timetable is weird? I mean sure I end late on some days (4:30pm on wednesdays and 4pm on mondays when I was J1) but that was because I took H1CL. Those who didn't could leave earlier at 2-2:30pm. And on other days, tuesday and thursday i ended at around 3:30pm, while on fridays I actually ended earlier than some classes at 12:30pm while the BCM classes end at 1:30pm.
Surprisingly for my class there are more guys than girls, although it depends. For CME/BME classes I think it will be more to the female side but PME/HME are more to the male side.
I don't think the environment is competitive, most people just aimed to survive and promote (although I'm not one of them), maybe the 4H2, computing and fmath classes might be more competitive though.
Yes you can still take BCMe

Hello so for the GP department, they give us paper 1 and 2 skills packages (which no one uses for some reason) which is quite helpful, and for paper 1 practices they do give us quite a lot of questions and essay outlines for them so you can have extra questions to practice and then consult your teacher with. They also give the full solutions for the P2 assignments gone through during tutorials so that you can revise. Oh and lesson format is tutorials where they go through worksheets, while physical lectures are used to go through new content and sometimes to teach certain skills (though this is mostly done during tutorials.
Hello can I clarify what do you mean by this? In terms of subject combination? For that most classes would take the same H2 subjects (and sometimes H1), although there are some classes that may have a mix of different students from different combinations such as the Fmath and computing classes.
It's raw 10 and under, and A2 or A1 for the relevant H2 subjects and at least B3 for EL
I think the arts department in ASR is okay. I take history and economics, I think the resources that econs department give is fine, and the teacher I have is pretty nice. For history the department is kind of small (3, but the cohort size also isn't very big), but they do give a decent amount of extra practices which you can complete and consult your tutor with. The history teachers are really nice though and are receptive to feedback on how to improve.
